:smooth:I’ve worn glasses since I was 4; always extremely near-sighted with some astigmatism. I was diagnosed with congenital cataracts (born with them) at age 30 and after some years on a wait-list, had artificial lens transplants 20 years ago that flipped my vision to being far-sighted. I immediately went into progressive tri-focal and will need them for the rest of my life.

My previous doctor tried to get me to wear bifocals but I couldn't get used to them. Now I have distance glasses and computer glasses. I take my glasses off for up close.

Picked other. I so,so,SOOOO need to get some glasses. I'm in my 50s, and I have worn glasses since I was 3 years old, and contacts since I was about 16, so a very long time. I"m farsighted. I wore bifocals as a teen. I think I need bifocals now. I keep on with my contacts, and I don't currently have a pair of actual, prescription glasses. I keep saying I'm going to go get some.....and then just put it off. I find it overwhelming to try and choose from all of the frames......just need to get some. My prescription is very close to reading glasses, so I use those when not wearing contacts, but really need some actual glasses.....nothing fancy.

I have developed my own system for seeing. I am nearsighted. I am thinking it's about -1.50 IIRC. I see just fine up close. However, I cannot see anything up close through my glasses lenses. I just wear my glasses on top of my head. I pull them down to see far off, and leave them up to see up close. At home I usually just leave a pair of glasses in different rooms so I can grab them as needed :rotfl2:
You sound like me. I am nearsighted so only need glasses for driving, watching tv, scoreboards at sporting events, etc. I frequently watch tv and read at the same time and used to be able to read with my glasses on but now have to take them off. I was prescribed reading glasses my last visit with the optometrist but with those it only seems to work with the work computer still have to take off for certain things. I carry both around and frequently no matter which glasses I am using seems a lot of times they are sitting on my head.

I just got new single lens glasses a few months ago. the ones prior were progressives that I didn't care for so I'll be staying with single now I think

I use trifocals. Got my first glasses, bifocals, at age 40. When I picked the glasses up and tried them on, I and the doctor determined trifocals would be my choice next time. Two years later, got trifocals, have had ever since. My sunglasses, (always polarized) are the same trifocal.

Been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old and felt quite comfortable with them (despite being called Mr. Peabody for a time) until recently when I required bifocals. The name alone struck terror in my being. So now I have 2 pairs of glasses and it’s become annoying. Doesn’t help that a lot of these new “eyeglasses factories” are not interested in getting the lenses right. Grumble, grumble, mumble, mumble.

So, rather than go with an obvious bi-focal, I went with a progressive lens for my newest glasses. The only problem is that this kind of lens routinely compromises your distance vision to give you that seamless approach for both. It still puts you within legal limits but if you're used to the distance of your single focal length glasses, you will notice it. In my case, it's so noticeable that I find them unsafe for driving, especially at night. They broke recently and I haven't bothered to get them fixed. Instead, I've gone back to single focus contact lenses and wear reading glasses when necessary.

Wore glasses forever, had the cataract removal some years ago and my eye glasses prescription went from a high powered correction to something much more basic, and just the single lens.

I have progressive lenses. I need the intermediate lens for computer work.

Since I had cataracts removed, I only need glasses for reading. I usually just wear readers but do have regular glasses that I wear when I leave the house so I don't have readers sitting on my nose. Those glasses are progressives, which I love. I have never worn bifocals; I went from single vision to progressives when they first came out.

My prescription glasses are bifocals. But honestly I wear readers more often. I wear readers all day at work. At home when on the computer or phone. And of course while reading.

Started wearing glasses when I was 8 - I’m very near sighted - switch to hard lens contacts when I turned 15 - had the same pair of contacts for almost 30 years - then I had lasik - twice - had to go back to wearing glasses within 2 years 😩 - now (almost 70) I keep needing new/stronger glasses for distance viewing like driving and watching TV - but I don’t need anything for close up tasks like reading or computer stuff…which is good because I was an application developer engineer before I retired a couple years ago. I’ll probably have cataract surgery at some point - maybe then I can finally toss my single distance glasses!

I am nearsighted, and wear single vision glasses. I am getting to the age where I may begin need reading glasses, but I plan to get separate reading glasses instead of bifocals. I need to be able to see the ground clearly when walking and doing yard work, and bifocals would make it blurry.

Ironically I need to go today to pick up my remade sunglasses that I just had to take back because I couldn't adjust to them for over a month no matter how I tried. Kept winding up with major motion sickness.

I put off progressives for a long time because I knew it was going to be a challenge with my complex prescription. Finally bit the bullet and got new glasses and sunglasses about six weeks ago. It was difficult to tell at pickup time because it was such an adjustment, both felt strange, but the one eye on the sunglasses felt wonky immediately. The clerk said that was probably because I was not only needing to adjust, but the difference between my regular glasses and my sunglasses was also another level of adjustment.

I thought I made my peace with my regular lenses, but finally gave up on the sunglasses last week and took them back because I'd reached the point where the minute I put on the sunglasses it was instant motion sickness. Luckily I got an entirely different technician from those I had worked with for purchase and pickup. I talked to him about my sunglasses, handed them over and he took a peek and then asked me for my regular glasses. He went in the back, scanned them both, came back and talked to me about my regular lenses. I told him I was probably adjusted to them, but the left wasn't as clear as I'd like. He had me put them on, looked at me and took them back. He went in the back again, adjusted them and said, try this. Voila, completely clear. He told me they'd probably misadjusted the lens during installation and I'd been dealing with the intermediary part of the lens where I shouldn't find it. Then he said they have to remake my sunglasses because there was an actual flaw in the lens that only showed up when he scanned them. Apparently there was an actual wave across the lens that I'd been trying to see through this whole time. It was a relief to know that it wasn't me resisting the adjustment this whole time.

Believe me when I say, if I can get adjusted to these with my very unusual prescription I would guess they can sort things out for just about anybody. Considering that I went over a month and had essentially adjusted to a misadjusted lens almost completely I'd guess adjustment to a correctly made and fit pair is nowhere near as challenging as I'd expected for years. I literally felt embarrassed to go back in there and complain about the sunglasses only to find out there was no way I could have ever adjusted to them -- and I was "adjusted" to a misfit lens in the other pair.

I was very nearsighted but had Lasik surgery 25+ years ago. Best. Decision. Ever! Now I just need reading glasses... since my early 50s.

I needed glasses from when I was 8/9 as I was shortsighted. In 2009 I had laser eye surgery to correct it which worked a dream, however as I spend virtually my entire working life on a laptop screen, I now need glasses when working or looking at a screen. A very minimal prescription thankfully but frustrating when I had the rest of my eyesight fixed 16 years ago!

I have progressive lenses, which I assume are trifocals. I'm near-sighted and have worn glasses since 5th grade. During the pandemic, it got to the point I couldn't read without removing my glasses. I ended up with bifocals, which I wore all the time. It wasn't a problem, but I did bring up at the next eye exam that I had a blind spot about 3-4 feet in front of me which I couldn't see through either prescription. He thanked me for bring it up and jotted down something on my prescription. When I received my glasses through Zenni, my eyes were like "WHOA!!" I didn't wear them for months because it felt so strong and I was uneasy walking. I had to work my way up to wearing them full-time. I knew I needed them because my other glasses were getting more blurry. My eyes are still working out exactly where to look in the lenses and I feel bird-like adjusting my head to adjust my vision. I think it may have been better if I had picked a frame that had larger lenses. I'll remember that for the next pair.

I have single lens glasses but might need to move up to Bifocals. I can see up close without my glasses so I just take them off when I need to read up close. It works for me so I will probably continue to do this until I become desparate.
