Thank you for the tip. Over the years, we’ve tried several things that supposedly preserve the tree longer: soda, sugar, corn syrup, etc. and I don’t know if they made a difference. The current position of many scientists/tree experts seems to be that these additives in the water may actually do more harm than good, and it’s best to just use plain water and refill as needed. So who knows? We did have a fresh cut made to the trunk when we bought it, and sometimes cut it again when we bring it inside. Have never had issues with a dry tree. YMMV
