I've also realized it's not just the "germs" thing. I really don't want people touching me in general, and I am happy to not touch them, either (family/close friends exclusion applies here, too... although I am not necessarily a "happy hugger" even with very close friends.)
For me, it's never been a germ thing. In fact, it takes a lot to freak me out in that way...which is funny because Slo used the gym as an example, and we're pretty certain a staph issue we faced several years ago was tied to unclean gym conditions. Still, I just don't like anyone other than close family in my space like that. I have a few close friends who I will also allow a hug, but even that starts feeling a tad awkward.
I have been elbow bumping for years before Covid. Started when my hands were covered in flour while baking in high school over 20 years ago, and kept it up when I started driving so I didn't have to take my hands off the wheel. I was so excited when it started catching on. My friends and I do it a lot, but usually when our hands are dirty or otherwise occupied. It's actually very practical.
Same here. I would note that almost everyone I know who initiates a fist bump is someone who is undergoing cancer treatment or has other health issues .
I'm more of a hand shaker but will bump fists if the person offers a fist instead of a hand to shake. I think during Covid there was more fist bumping going on than hand shakes.
