I voted for "other." I have posted about our American Thanksgiving tradition here in the past. In our family, we call it "Pie Day." (Not to worry! We still take care of our Thanksgiving meal on Canadian Thanksgiving, so we aren't missing out on anything.)
When our kids were little, my husband decided to stop by Costco and pick up two huge pies the day before Thanksgiving. This was for two adults and two very young kids. He said he had trouble deciding so he just got both. When the kids saw the pies, their mouths dropped open and one of them said something along the lines of, "Wow! That's a lot of pie! Can we eat pie all day?" My husband looked at me and we figured, "Yeah. Why not? All day tomorrow we will only eat pie." And so, Pie Day was born. Pie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a side of whip cream thrown in. It is now one of my kids' favourite holidays.
Through the years (it has been about 20 now), I reached a point where I was like, "I can't just eat pie all day, as good as that sounds." With two of the kids now well into adulthood, we have modified the event slightly to where we do take-out of some kind the day before Thanksgiving and then eat the leftovers (or reheat the dishes we have pre-selected) on Thanksgiving Day. One of our favouite choices in more recent years has been to order barbecue from a local place, picking up burnt ends, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, and some sides. We round out the meal with our Pie Day pies, and call it good. The whole end game is that we get to spend the day together as a family and EVERYONE gets the day off, with nobody needing to stress about being in the kitchen.
