I just placed an online grocery order to pick up but know I will have to go again.

I am making 2 desserts for dinner at DD's house Thursday, Then Friday I am hosting both DD and DS and families and I am making the turkey and some sides and they are bringing sides too.

I make everything and I’ve got just one more thing to buy and that’s a loaf of bread for the dressing. I can’t use store bought croutons because my husband doesn’t like them and that’s not what his mother used when she made it.🙄 Technically she made her own bread but I don’t do that. So I just toast off a loaf, leave it dry out in the oven, and crumble it up. Then onto the next umpteen steps to making her dressing that takes 2 days to make. 🙄

I've been the host for every holiday since I was 25, normally we have over 30 people but due to covid last year only 7 and this year is 7 again. My years as an Army spouse we would have over 50. I used to cater and teach cooking classes so it wasn't a burden. I'm in my early 50s now and ready to pass on the job but no one else cooks.

We host and usually make the whole meal. MIL might bring an appetizer or a dessert, but most of it is my wife and I. Together, we can make a turkey dinner in our sleep practically.

We host and I make all the food. My husband helps with clean-up. The only items I still need to buy are the brussel sprouts and dinner rolls, but I would normally buy those right before Thanksgiving. We will for sure have 5 at my house. We're not sure if my husband's parents are coming and we're planning to ask my husband's best friend to join us as well, so we may end up with 8 people this year.

For Thanksgiving, I went to my parents house and brought my world famous rolls. They are so easy, and they’re the best. It’s a no fail recipe.

Since we’re talking about American Thanksgiving, I chose other, because obviously not celebrating it.

I don’t make anything. We don’t have a large family gathering for Thanksgiving, so it’s just me and DH. For the past few years we have gotten the Thanksgiving Farmhouse Feast from Bob Evans. Turkey breast, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans with ham, buttered corn, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, banana bread, pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Meals for 2-3 days. Perfect for us.

I am hosting and will make the majority of the food
My daughter will bring an appetizer and ambrosia salad that her husband’s grandma used to make
Her mother-in-law will bring apple and pumpkin pie and a side dish
I will finish shopping on Monday early in the morning

I voted for "other." I have posted about our American Thanksgiving tradition here in the past. In our family, we call it "Pie Day." (Not to worry! We still take care of our Thanksgiving meal on Canadian Thanksgiving, so we aren't missing out on anything.)

When our kids were little, my husband decided to stop by Costco and pick up two huge pies the day before Thanksgiving. This was for two adults and two very young kids. He said he had trouble deciding so he just got both. When the kids saw the pies, their mouths dropped open and one of them said something along the lines of, "Wow! That's a lot of pie! Can we eat pie all day?" My husband looked at me and we figured, "Yeah. Why not? All day tomorrow we will only eat pie." And so, Pie Day was born. Pie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a side of whip cream thrown in. It is now one of my kids' favourite holidays.

Through the years (it has been about 20 now), I reached a point where I was like, "I can't just eat pie all day, as good as that sounds." With two of the kids now well into adulthood, we have modified the event slightly to where we do take-out of some kind the day before Thanksgiving and then eat the leftovers (or reheat the dishes we have pre-selected) on Thanksgiving Day. One of our favouite choices in more recent years has been to order barbecue from a local place, picking up burnt ends, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, and some sides. We round out the meal with our Pie Day pies, and call it good. The whole end game is that we get to spend the day together as a family and EVERYONE gets the day off, with nobody needing to stress about being in the kitchen.

Wow! Thanks for doing that.

None of the options fit me.

When we have a big Thanksgiving meal (with the "whole" family), the host family does the turkey (with stuffing) and supplies oven/stove/pots for others bringing the rest of the meal - potatoes, salads, other sides.

Most recently, since Thanksgiving has been limited (older parents now in senior care, siblings and their children having other houses to visit during the holidays, we're just doing our own dinner. So I'm the one doing the whole meal. And now it doesn't have as many sides.

I've also learned to cook the turkey the day before, slice it and then just reheat it during the time I make the mashed potatoes and and the rest of the dinner on Thanksgiving itself. I like it much better. When I was cooking/preparing the whole meal myself all on the same day (taking basically the whole day) I just wasn't in the mood to eat by the time we sat down. Now it only takes less than an hour to "make" the meal, I can enjoy it like everyone else.

Yup, bought everything over the last two weeks during our normal grocery shopping. Well, my daughter is bringing a Tofurky veggie roast, since she doesn't eat meat.

I’m done. The only things my guests bring are a cherry pie, the homemade cranberry sauce, and the bread and toppings they want for their leftover turkey sandwiches, since I don’t keep condiments in the house and they prefer a whole grain bread. I finished getting things specifically for the big meal about three weeks ago, and then last week I got stuff for the breakfasts I will be serving on Friday and Saturday. We don’t do a huge breakfast on Thursday since we eat the big meal around noon. It’s just the three of us. My sister and BIL usually pick up the tab to order pizza on Wednesday night when they arrive to balance out me providing the big meal.

We host every year and went shopping with DW last night but she never wants anyone in the kitchen so she cook it all herself.
