I’ve always wiped down the cart handle long before Covid. This time of year I pop my sleeves over my hands as well.

Never. I don’t see the point of it, because every grocery item you put into your cart has been handled by many other people. The first thing you touch after you have sanitized the cart handle has germs on it. Now the cart handle again has germs on it.

If there a wipes nearby the carts I will use it - not due to Covid but slobbering children that were in the cart

I do most of my grocery shopping with pick-up service. If I do need to use a cart I don’t wipe it off anymore but I do use hand sanitizer as soon as I get back in my car.

This was recommended back in the early days of the 2009 swine flu pandemic. And it made a lot of sense to me, so I started doing it. It quickly became a habit, and I never stopped. I figure maybe it's all theater, but who cares? It takes two seconds and certainly doesn't hurt anything.

I agree with many of the reason Flo Stated. Never wipe the carts down and work in a hospital and very rarely sick anymore. When I first started in the healthcare environment, I was sick all the time until my immune system built up. We sanitize everything at work. I do like everything very clean however I don't go crazy wiping things down when I'm out.

Only if one is there , my husband on the other hand will put hand sanitizer on if there isn’t any. I don’t bother.

I do wash my hands a lot still. Don’t want to get the flu.

Agree.

I wash my hands after I use the restroom and before I eat, try not to touch my face, etc. But EVERYTHING you touch has germs. Heck didn’t I once read a study about the things living on our purses? Money is gross. The meats you pick up are covered in stuff.

Wash your hands.

I do, and I carry my own wipes if the supermarket doesn't have them. It's silly, because I no longer mask unless the store requires it-and I haven't come across a store that has in months. I also don't wipe down carts anywhere else, come to think of it. Now I feel dumb.

I just sanitize my hands when done grocery shopping and before I get into the car.

Yup, wipe them down everytime. If the store is out of wipes, I carry hand sanitizer and kleenex so I use that to wipe them down.
The stores here no longer "sterilize" the cars like they used to.
Fingers crossed, the hand washing, sanitizer, masks and social distancing I started in 2020 have served me well. Not only have I not gotten covid, but I haven't had a cold or any upper respiratory infection or other illness since 2019. Mom was right, WASH YOUR HANDS.

Due to his schedule husband has been doing most of the shopping the last couple years. I know he does if wipes are there. I did at the height of Covid but don't bother if I go know unless husband is there and does it.

Yeah, I don't bother unless there is some visible crud on there, and then I am usually just going to opt for anotehr cart if available.

Always use those wipes to wipe off the cart when shopping. Our grocery store had them even before covid, so it isn't something new. Takes only a few seconds to wipe off the parts you touch and always seemed like a good idea. Will probably also keep hand sanitizer in our cars for use even after covid is over.

Publix has had them for years, so I was in the habit of using them prior to the pandemic. I still use one every time I shop.

A pet peeve about sanitizing wipes. SOME people throw the wipe into the cart after use then LEAVE them there when they return the cart.

I think that’s more disgusting than any germs that may be on the handle.

But I don’t mind if I find a discarded handwritten shopping list in the cart. They’re sometimes fun to read.
