Pig Roasts are so much fun, and the pork is so good! But not everyone eats the pork. My DD20 is not a pork eater, so there’s no way she’d eat the meat, she would just eat the sides. I’m wondering today…..

Have you been to a pig roast?
Have you hosted a pig roast?
Do you eat the pork?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I was just at a pig roast a few days ago - my neighbor did this for their DD’s grad party. I do enjoy the pork and made a sandwich with the meat. I think next year we’re going to do this as a block party and we’ll split the cost.

My Sister has hosted two. These were many years ago, and I did enjoy them both. They were college graduation parties.

I have been to several but have never hosted one. The ones I attended were all many years ago. My (small, Catholic) high school used to do one every year for homecoming.

At one, the whole pig was on display, complete with the apple in its mouth and… I dunno. That grossed me out. I am not a vegetarian and I know where meat comes from, but that was a little TOO “farm to table” for me, I think. (I don’t want to see the face of my meat!) At the high school, they had a big tent over the roasting pit and brought the meat out on platters. I never had to see the pig.

If I went to another one, I’d probably just eat the sides.

I have never done one.
I have been to one. It was a family reunion and the pork was buried in the ground for a long time. I ate it. It was good.
I would never do one though.

I have been to one in the past, but it was probably about 30 years ago. For a couple years back then they had one in the center of town. I definitely ate the pork.

Does a luau count? Went to one in 1972. I have a fraternity brother whose wife is from the Philippines where pig roasts are common and I see pictures of birthday celebrations where they have a roasted pig, but I think they buy it, not cook it themselves.

3 that I can think of. First was a luau in Hawaii about 45 years ago.

Second, Vince and Katlyn had one as part of their local outdoor wedding celebration 16 years ago. They had a 'destination' wedding, a cruise, and then a big local celebration about 2 months later.

Third, a longtime client of mine has an annual golf outing. Last year, the luncheon afterwards was a pig roast. Even though I've been retired for 4 years, the now 'ex client', now also a friend, invites Marie and I each year to the outing/luncheon.

The eating is always very good.

We never hosted one.

I've never been to one but it reminds me of this:

I've been to one as a child and don't remember if I ate the pork or just sides and "kid food" offerings.

I was invited to one this year, but couldn't go. They were also smoking other meats I like better, so I probably would not have eaten the pork that time, though I do eat pulled pork, bacon, etc. in general.

We have done several pig roasts on our farm, we have our own roaster. DH most recently roasted a pig for our 2 grandson’s combined high school graduation open house on the farm a year ago. His parents used to host their Jayco camper club camp out on the farm many years ago, and always had a pig roast for that. At that time we also raised pigs on our farm, so roasted one of our own. The meat is delicious, some served plain and some with BBQ sauce.
