I completely stay out of the controversial board. Most of the discussion on boards like that, come from anonymous people who don’t always have real-life experience…especially with things like the military, medical issues, or law enforcement. I’d rather get that kind of information from trained professionals and keep my Disney time fun. 😊
So then if they don’t have real life experience they shouldn’t vote? Or have a say in headlines?

What an odd, bizarre outlook.

I love the controversial topics board. Some people, it seems IMO, are there just to be nasty. I think it's probably too easy for people to get OTT snarky and obviously let out some misdirected anger, because people think they can generally get away with it as it's under the controversial topics umbrella. Not right, but it's what happens and you just have to have thick skin and realize that happy people don't need to resort to mudslinging.

The vast majority are people that I would be happy to meet IRL because they seem to be good people. Some really interesting ideas and thoughts are shared.

None of us agree on everything, but good discussion can happen if provocateurs don't steer the discussion off course. Though sometimes the provocateurs provide some entertainment. Like anything in life - it's all about what you make of it.

No, they just shouldn't insist that their opinions are facts. Especially without posting any data to prove what they are screaming about.
I like that others with different life experience share their opinions.

I'm not a doctor, or nurse, or researcher, or scientist, lab tech, teacher, animal welfare volunteer, SAHM/SAHD (all of these are just the examples of the professionals that contribute to the CT board). I think getting their contributions makes my informed opinion better, because these people are living their experience day in and day out. I trust someone who is living their unique experience over someone who only observes and opines on it.

People armchair quarterback my profession all the time, I would hope I would know better what our experience is like over someone telling me I'm wrong because xyz when they have never worked the job a day in their life.

It's not really controversial to me, actually it seems more like a sort of screaming room, like they have at church so no-one else needs to hear the crying which interrupts things unless you walk into that space. I appreciate that quality more and more as time goes on.

It is an angry bubble.

Lately I prefer things in the main forums away from the kerfluffle

Creepy hugs emojis not meant with warmth make my skin crawl, bad touch - bad touch 🤢 🤮 just glad it's not real life:crazy2:

I love the controversial board and am happy it was created. The regular posters have a wealth of knowledge and share that on a regular basis. I like that news is posted regularly with links to back it up as it moves so quickly now it’s nice to have a place to discuss what’s happening. The political divide unfortunately has become very divisive but unless we talk it will only continue to divide. I appreciate all the regulars even the people on the other side of the aisle.

Yes, I do visit the Controversial Board and Yes, I do post.
There are some who really do state an opinion that can make a person shake their head and say "W H A T"? but w/o the semantics of verbal conversation, topics can really turn quickly!

There you have it: controversy

Politics in particular seem to be something that really enrages people, the majority of the threads are about politics directly or indirectly.
And that I get because of *gestures* everything going on right now. I remember how past threads went before the Controversial Board existed and I would think to myself "WOW some people here are severely out of touch with reality". I'm sure those same people I would think that about are on there so I'll double pass on joining.

Never been, never requested BUT I AM SO GLAD IT EXISTS!!! Having the board has moved most the 🗑️& troll conversations out of the general boards, making this a more pleasant space to be. Hopefully DIS is getting plenty of clicks over there!!
Well....back in the old days I was on DIS probation several times because moderators had a difficult task defining the line....so I am glad that it was created and have no desire to even view the board.... many memories of being censored for quotes from Wikipedia and that is why I left here and my previous ID name was cancel culture voided anyhow

Yeah, I got points for a reply SOMEONE else made to a thread I started.
That was one of the two times in the 22ish years I have been a member that I did not log in for a whole year afterwards.
It is a private board and they can run it anyway they want, but I don't think that was a correct decision.

I enjoy reading your posts there. I rarely post. There are few who just stir the pot enough so it's not really a debate/conversation, but there are some interesting topics.

That is kind of you to say! Sometimes I probably post too much lol

Nope don't go there. The most controversy I want in my life is whether you should eat instant grits or not. (yes I eat instant grits and yes I'm a born and bred Georgia girl).
