I'm not superstitious by nature, but there is this one peculiar thing: my grandmother always said it was bad luck to take a pin or sewing needle from someone directly. You should always pin it to the person's sleeve or whatever and let them take it that way. I sew, and every time I do I think of this quirk. I don't remember ever handing someone a pin or needle, btw. I don't know if I would do this if I did.

And I just remembered another one-on New Year's Eve, we used to give each other a dollar to keep in our wallets all year. The superstition was that way you'll never be broke. That's a bunch of bull because I've been broke plenty.

I do some of them. They are fun. We got a black kitten when I was young. He lived to be 18.

I also won't walk on cracks or split a pole...I do all of these things out of habits from when I was little...I don't actually believe anything will happen one way or another though-just kind of became things I do

I’ll knock wood, but more just out of habit than any real belief in it. Just like I toss salt over my shoulder if I spill some.

I have my own personal superstition

I share one with my sister. We say that every time our mom says something about someone being happy, or well/not sick, something happens shortly after to change that. To the point where when she starts to say it we shssh her. Sorry mom!

I guess I don’t necessarily avoid these., but I think about them when I encounter the scenario I’ve had several wonder black cats, definitely not unlucky. I do always throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it . Often avoid stepping on a crack .

Not particularly superstitious, but I will knock on wood. I do throw spilled salt over my left shoulder for some odd reason.

I also say "Rabbit, rabbit" as the first thing I say on the first of the month. My freshman year high school teacher told us about it (in the days before Google). Apparently it's a thing.

I do knock on wood sometimes and always pick up pennies (more because it's free money than superstition).

We do open umbrellas in the house sometimes because they dry faster that way.

I could have written this myself! Our foyer has a tile floor, and when it’s been raining, that’s where the open umbrellas are set out to dry. Things grow mold too easily in Florida to put away a damp umbrella.

Friday the 13th is lucky for me because my mom was born on a Friday the 13th. So I wouldn’t be here without it. Actually 13 has always been a lucky number for me.

13 was and still is my number. Wore it in all sports growing up. My one major superstition is having to always put my left sock and shoe on first.

I’m generally not superstitious. Friday the 13th doesn’t bother me, and I think it’s silly when tall buildings “don’t have” a 13th floor.

When I was a kid, I did some things just for fun, that I learned mostly from other kids, like not stepping on sidewalk cracks. I was taught that “pennies from heaven” are signs from a loved one who has passed, which I’m not sure I believe, but it’s a nice sentiment. And we always had black cats as pets, because my mom would pick them from the shelter as the most unwanted ones.

I am on the Mega Ship, Oasis of the Seas and it does not have a 13th floor!

See, that’s crazy to me. It’s still the 13th floor even if they call it 14. Though I’ve heard of hotels that don’t have any guest rooms on the 13th and instead just use it as a service area.

We've owned three black cats over the last 20 years. If one crossed in front of me, I'd follow it!

I knock on wood constantly. No sense tempting fate.

MIL had a rock with a natural hole in it right outside her front door. She said it was to "keep the haints away". It's more sentimental than superstition, but we "inherited" it and have placed it right outside our front door too. If it keeps the haunts away, all the better. (Yes, I know I need one for the back door! )

Never speak ill about the recently departed at the funeral home. Again, no sense tempting fate.

I guess I do knock on wood every once in awhile, more as just a phrase rather than a superstition. Basically though, I do not believe in superstitions.

So many got baked in good as a kid I come from a superstitious culture with oodles of traditions. None of these are my own personal ones other than sharing 5's as a way to spread good fortune.

Doing good things for others comes back to me so I am still tipping with 5's
Doing bad things also comes back so no bragging or envy, the arrogance gets you smited
First slice of birthday cake must go to the birthday person
Everyone present must have a taste of birthday cake or is wishing bad luck on the birthday person
White dress at a wedding by anyone but the bride is a wish for bad luck to the couple
No crossing people on stairs
No sitting on a sick person's bed
Bad luck comes in threes
No toasting with water

Lots more all squirreling around in my head & even though I know they aren't real I still do it, ok maybe a few seem to pan out.

I can be superstitious. But not about black cats. I have my second one now. They are the friendliest most personable cats and have a tougher time being adopted because some people are superstitious. A lot of shelters won't adopt them out around Halloween because people use them for basically a Halloween decoration or abuse them. People can be awful sometimes.

I thought of another one. Not sure it is considered a superstition, though. I fix pork, cabbage, and black eyed peas on New Year’s Day. It is supposed to ensure good luck for the new year. Maybe a southern thing?
