I love seeing the work people put into the shows!
The shows aren't really much work. For me, the hardest part is just picking music.
Here's a rough breakdown of what goes into a typical slideshow. Start with the assumption that the pictures have all been taken, processed, and culled down to just decent pictures.
1) Start up the slideshow software.
2) Set the basic parameters in the software (sync slideshow to music, allow user to save pictures, include toolbar on bottom right, close show at the end, set all transitions to fade for a duration of 400 to 1,000 milliseconds (depending on the style I want).
3) Go through the available pictures, picking the ones that I want. Sometimes I put them in chronological order. Sometimes I order them into groups by activity.
4) Pick a song or set of songs that are the appropriate length for the pictures. If the song is too short, the pictures go by too fast. If it is too long, they linger too long. Picking the right song is usually always the hardest part.
5) Review the show and pull out pictures that don't feel right.
6) Create the EXE and upload it.
