Somewhere on these boards, I viewed a slideshow that someone posted of their pictures. It was awesome, and the poster mentioned what software they used. The people in the slide show consisted of the parents and two young daughters, one of which they carried in a home-made backpack of sorts. Does anyone recall seeing this slideshow, and if so, could you point me in the right direction. I would like to see what software they used.

I don't know which one your refering to, but I use proshow gold to make my slide shows, works great and is easy to use

Gregg......Does Proshow Gold make .exe slideshows? I'm looking to change what I use.

I use ProShow too. As I recall Mark B uses "Pictures to exe" which appears to do a fine job also.

The exe files can cause erratic playback on some computers if you use some fancy transitions or long slow fades/pans/zooms.

"Awesome" and "two girls" makes me think GDad, but I don't recall him doing any slideshows.

I do mine in Pictures2Exe from http://www.wnsoft.com. My shortest, if you want a quick sample, is at http://www.box.net/shared/static/gmasxsls8w.exe. You can see more that I've done, including some Disney ones, at http://barbierifamily.org/slideshow.

The product is capable doing a lot of transitions, but I generally always just stick to cross fades. It also allows you to sync music, include comments, and has a few other features.

I love seeing the work people put into the shows!

The shows aren't really much work. For me, the hardest part is just picking music.

Here's a rough breakdown of what goes into a typical slideshow. Start with the assumption that the pictures have all been taken, processed, and culled down to just decent pictures.

1) Start up the slideshow software.

2) Set the basic parameters in the software (sync slideshow to music, allow user to save pictures, include toolbar on bottom right, close show at the end, set all transitions to fade for a duration of 400 to 1,000 milliseconds (depending on the style I want).

3) Go through the available pictures, picking the ones that I want. Sometimes I put them in chronological order. Sometimes I order them into groups by activity.

4) Pick a song or set of songs that are the appropriate length for the pictures. If the song is too short, the pictures go by too fast. If it is too long, they linger too long. Picking the right song is usually always the hardest part.

5) Review the show and pull out pictures that don't feel right.

6) Create the EXE and upload it.
