Sleepless at Wilderness or Plan Shman 10/21 **PHOTOPASS Pics Flik!**

There you are! I read bits of you PTR and was waiting for your return...obviously I missed something along the way.
:confused3
I'm subbing and will hopefully catch up in the near future!

You know. I NEVER went back and posted that I had started my TR! I remembered for my dining...

I'm so glad you found me and are joining me over here!:goodvibes

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yep, I'd say yours is definitely is the bigger of the two Tobys. My Mom has a cat named Duke who topped the scales at 29 pounds, so I'm no stranger to huge cats---I just don't have any of them myself. :goodvibes

29 pounds!:scared1:

DH and DS just saw all the pics of your pet family last night. We all cracked up really hard at the picture of Winkle. That one is TOO cute. DH made a rather boyish and crude comment about hoping s/he doesn't winkle all over your house...:rolleyes1 Seriously though. Is that a kitten? You need to find a contest to enter that pic in!

Too pooped to multi-quote (lame, I know....) BUT, thank you, Ms. Rabbit, for the amazing descriptions of Disney Quest (well, everything!) I had no idea how cool some of the DQ games are - and you gave the IMPORTANT info - Helmets 1 size fits all, you will sweat, etc.

I just love your TR - and I'm picking up a few parenting tips for future little Spratts, too!:goodvibes

More, more, your fans are clamoring for more!

And I hope your shoulder gets better - ;)

Mrs. Spratt

DQ doesn't seem to be talked about much here on the boards. I figure a bit of detail there might be helpful. I'm glad that it is!

Not sure about the parenting tips...but we try!

My shoulder IS feeling better. I rested a bit and didn't do too much with it. I'm getting geared up to finish the skim coat in the bathroom. Home improvement really requires a bit of muscle to accompany all that elbow grease, not something that my ARMS have in great quantity.:rotfl:

Geesh! I replied and I HADN'T READ THE NEW UPDATE YET!

You are fast, Ms. Rabbit!

And I agree with the PILOT - you are just beautiful, and you look YOUNG. I know from the bitsy bit of your PTR I read that you were working on tightening all of the proverbial belts - you look thin, and beautiful, and I love love love your anniversary dress - simple and comfortable, yet pretty enough to be "dressy." FAAAbulous!

Mrs. Spratt

 You are so sweet. An ego boost right there, I tell ya!

Aw, love the pic in the Mickey ears! We have to get a pic there every trip!

It was your TR I was thinking about when I took the pic!

I was also wondering where you were that night...as I knew that we were there at the same time. I've been so busy trying to keep up with my TRs and doing the house, I haven't taken the time to keep up with everyone's TRs. I haven't read past your Dis meet in TN! I'm glad to have something to look forward to reading though, when I take a break from the house.:flower3:

I will apologize in advance for the lack of pictures in this post. I'm in the process of ordering my pre-paid Photopass CD. I plan on ordering it today. When it arrives, rest assured, I will be sharing the pics. Not that there are too many from this particular evening.

I will also warn you that this is a very chatty little review. I had the darnedest time finding info on Disney Quest, so I seek to fill in that blank here on the boards. A more technical review, if you will. This is SO not needed for MK attractions. Herein I take the liberty as the author of this TR to chat away to my heart's content about one of my favorite places. I know, since you are reading TRs, that it must also be one of your favorites. I hope to entertain you as I mix a bit of history with the tour.

So much has happened. Let's review!

It's Sunday, June 21, Father's Day and our first day to wake up in WDW...We woke up this morning and after leisurely greeting the day, we sped our way over to AKL for a super duper, tasty, special Father's Day breakfast at Boma.

We then were off to DTD, where we browsed and played our way through air conditioned shopping bliss, purchasing a custom build lightsaber, much to the joy of DS. We ate a light lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express where we enjoyed a nice sit and relative solitude with the best brewed iced tea on property and the company of some highly entertaining little birds. A boat taxi saved our gams big time as we made our way to the opposite side of DTD for a few hours in gaming heaven. Rushing a bit, due to a longer-than-we-probably-should-have-waited wait for the best virtual reality game EVER, we hurried back to our WDW home to change for our first signature restaurant.

We eventually found ourselves window side at the California Grill savoring a leisurely gourmet meal. It was at this meal that we decided that we were ready to hit a park, and as fate would have it, the Magic Kingdom was really the only option available given what time it was and what park hours were. MK would be open with PM EMH until 3:00 AM.

It had already been quite a day!

With a precious dessert leftover that must be saved because we certainly wouldn't have enough food choices available with our deluxe dining plan, we had taken the boat from CR to WL. We got ready for our first park excursion.

The evening hours meant that we wouldn't have to bother with more sunscreen. With a red head (though not as red as it used to be) and our anglo-saxon glowing WHITE selves, we are serious about sun care. It was a relief to think that wouldn't be an issue. My sundress was cooler than the shorts I had been wearing, so I didn't feel like changing. We were good to go. And we did.

It was twilight when we headed back out to the boat dock. The boat dock is a quality feature here at WL. The deck pathway through the trees...

It's the kind of path that makes you happy just to walk along it. It's more special that plain old concrete. High on anticipation, we arrived to see the larger of the two MK boats finish boarding. We joined the masses that were heading to MK waiting for the next ride. Obviously, we weren't the only ones that had the brilliant idea of going to MK this evening.

We found the crowd to be exceedingly pleasant. Seriously. It's not like waiting in line at the grocery store. Or the dentist. Or worse, in the ladies room right after the movie let out. It's different to wait in line on a dock at a gorgeous resort, admiring the lake and the trees, feeling the breeze, heading to the place where dreams come true.

Happy, excited conversations were all around. We struck one up with the family behind us in line. I learned that the island in the middle of the lake was called Discovery Island. You used to be able to go there to see the animals that called the island home. Mostly birds. Most of the animals from the island had been moved to Animal Kingdom when it opened. Ahhhh. That explained a lot.

I love random conversations with random people. I don't even remember what else we talked about, but it sure helped the time pass quickly. The next thing we knew, the smaller boat was coming around the bend.

589.jpg

Given the length of the line before us, I doubted that we would make it onto the boat. I was right. But keep your ears open, people, especially if you are a smaller party. The pilot started yelling that he still had room for a party of 3! I responded immediately! We're a 3! And we were on the next boat to the MK!

I learned to keep my ears open when DH and I went to Universal on our honeymoon in 1997. This was our first encounter with foreign tour groups. Oh my! There were SEVERAL different groups, easily identified by their matching t-shirts and unique flag carrying leader EVERYWHERE. DH and I learned to love them. Because we learned that a party of 2 was a highly sought after commodity in and amongst these groups. As soon as we could get within earshot of a CM (what do they call them at Universal?), we knew we were as good as on the ride. Any second now, s/he would be announcing that they had room for a party of 2!! Party of 2? DH and I would find ourselves on a fast track to the front of the line to fill in the gap.

We filled in the gaps on the boat with DS sitting with me and DH finding a single somewhere else. No problem. No complaints here. Approximately 7 minutes later, I watched as the Magic Kingdom grew in size at our approach. I've never arrived via boat. Never took the ferry from the TTC. What a way to build anticipation!

I was so excited for that first view of the castle. Oh sure. I had seen it in the distance from the CR. But I'm talking about that view down Main Street. The one where the castle dominates its surroundings. The one where the lights shine on it, blue, purple, pink, yellow...The lights on Main Street all lit and the whole place shining like you were transported into a hot, summery Christmas village display.

I was thrilled that our first visit to the Magic Kingdom was at night. It's a fun place to be any time of the day, but it just seems especially magical to me at night. I couldn't wait to get inside. And luckily I didn't have to.

The bag check line was NO PROBLEM. Especially when you know that there are TWO sides to the tables in front of each bag checker. There's always SOMEONE that doesn't realize that, or a party that thinks they should travel together on the same side. Find that short side or EMPTY side and get 'er done!

We arrived at MK right before the Spectromagic parade was starting. So it must have been a little before 9:00 PM. The ropes made a nice pathway down the sidewalk on Main St. The CMs were really on top of people, making sure they kept the walkway clear. This was very helpful for those of us that wanted to WALK. A part of me was wishing that we could pause and watch the parade. Just a part...I was happy to be cruising along. I was in a happy place.

Everyone has their own reasons for WHY WDW, or any specific place in WDW, is a happy place. Like many, my own reasons are a hodge podge of good memories. You know I grew up in California. My first visit to Disneyland was with my Great Grandma. She was a young Great Grandma. She lived to 93, passing away two years ago. I visited her every summer in my elementary years. We generally did one big thing during my visit. One year, we went to Disneyland.

I don't have any physical pictures of our trip, but I do have a few memories imprinted in my mind. Memories of watching black and white Mickey cartoons in a theater on Main Street. Memories of waiting in line, yes, a LINE, to ride It's a Small World. I have a memory of some sort of submarine ride, or glass bottomed boat, which I'm not even sure is of Disneyland. They are few specific memories, but an overall feeling of just being happy, with my Grandma.

This childhood visit laid the foundation for a love of Disney. In highschool, I was a tall flag girl with the marching band. The coolest thing the band did was to go on "Tour" in the fall. We were excused from school to travel to Southern California. Among the many different activities that were included in the three different years that I participated, the consistent event was to march down Main Street in Disneyland as a part of their Magic Musical Days. From the backstage area, we would enter through the parade route, marching our way to the castle where we would stop and perform 3 songs. We would march back out the way we came. I do have those pictures if anyone is interested. Not digital though, so I have to figure that out.

As if that weren't cool enough, we were also given a free day to just play in the park. During the school year. On a week day. In November. Can you say NO LINES? So I have great memories of touring Disneyland in my teenage years. To quote myself, "OMG!!! It was LIKE, TOTALLY rad."

Can you imagine? Did you get this experience? Going to Disneyland with just about ALL of your closest friends, girls and boys? Sans immediate and constant adult supervision? Oh sure, we had to check in at the check points at regular intervals. I have memories stored in my heart associated with BTMRR, HM, Space Mtn, and PoC. Revisiting these places keeps alive that child within. I love it.

DH was able to go to Disneyland at least once during his own childhood. His memories are more vague. He remembers LIKING things more than the actual things themselves.

Our first stop was a favorite of both DH and me, Pirates of the Caribbean. It's been too long since I have ridden it, I can't say with conviction, but I THINK that the ride is different in CA. I'm almost positive that the end is VERY different. I remember always being faked out because you raise back to street level while you are in the boat and it feels like you are outside. But you aren't. I'm hoping to get back to CA so I can make comparisons now that I have been to WDW.

Pirates was a walk on. A posted 20 minute wait. There wasn't any time to admire the theming in the caves. We were walking forward at a steady pace. It was blessedly cool in the caves. You wouldn't believe how hot it still was outside. As we were reminiscing about bygone days and our LOVE for PoC, we discovered that at age 8, DS's memories of PoC are rather vague. In two years time, it's interesting to see what made an impact, what memories have been formed, and what hasn't.

It was like DS rode it for the first time all over again. Sigh. The ride behind us, we hightailed it through the gift shop. We knew that parade time was precious. You don't spend it in a gift shop. There would plenty of time for that later in this trip. Onward!

We headed over to Splash Mountain. We were in the last group allowed to cross the parade route! Whew. Just in time! The wait was short so we hopped into the standby line to ride. Line. What line? We started RUNNING through the queue, up the stairs, careful on the incline!

I think that I could write, we LOVE this ride for just about every one! But seriously. SM typifies what separates a Disney ride from rides in other parks. The staging of the scene in the line. The journey through the story. The attention to detail all over the place. It's not just a water ride. It's an experience. So much fun. I love riding this one at night.

SM is HIGH on the memory meter for DS. It ranked tied for first after our first trip to WDW. His smile was so precious on that first ride. I had to buy the photo. I posted in on my PTR and I'll post it here too. We're in the back row.

100_3112.jpg

100_3113.jpg

Sometimes, it's troublesome to be a party of 3. There are times when someone has to ride alone. During that first time on SM, DS was a much smaller 6-year old. All three of us fit rather easily into one row. DS had wanted us to ride together like we did two years ago. So we tried it. It wasn't too comfortable. He was much bigger now. It was also a hot way to ride, all squished in together.

As we were heading around that first bend, we were HOPING that we would get sprayed. The one that gets you before you even head up? We watched. We calculated. Maybe? Nope. We were a little disappointed.

Before getting into the boat, I had unpacked the gallon sized ziploc bag that I had folded and brought with me. My bag fit easily in that bag. A little extra insurance incase we DID get wet. I was glad that I did because I caught a wave over the side on one of the little dips. Ahhh. That felt SO GOOD.

Check out the photo. Use the conveniently located bathroom at the exit. Head over to BTMRR. The wait was too long for us. And the FPs were gone. We figured we would ride it a bit later after the fireworks, when we figured a lot of park goers might leave.

This is a ride DS was really looking forward to. DS developed a love for BTMRR during P&PP. DS's favorite coaster WAS Goofy's. He liked it better than Space Mountain because he liked being able to see the track. It wasn't as herky and jerky too. A little short. But he loved it. On our second visit in 2007, DS couldn't WAIT to ride Goofy's. We headed over there all awash in excitement. Only. To find. The ride. Closed. !?!?!?! It hadn't been listed as down for maintenance! They were PAINTING the cars! This caused a MAJOR meltdown. Deservedly. We told DS it was OK to be disappointed. We understood.

Thank God I had spent HOURS on the DIS, I knew just what to do to run intervention. We hightailed it outta MK and DS was introduced to what has now become one of his favorite places, Disney Quest.

It took much conjoling on our part, but DH and I were able to convince DS that BTMRR was more like Goofy's than SM. He would like it. We were sure he would. Finally, he decided to give it a try. The three of us piled into one car and off we went with DS bouncing like ball between DH and myself as we rounded turns on the wildest ride in the wilderness! DS LOVED it. Like ride it 9 more times LOVED it. BTMRR replaced Goofy's in DS's heart.

He was disappointed that we couldn't ride BTMRR right away, but he went with the flow. I was proud of him. I'm so thankful that we have reached an age of greater understanding. Yay.

The parade was still going on. We were able to see bits and pieces of it as we walked the boardwalk path toward the Haunted Mansion. We paused here and there as a favorite character went by. Ahhh. I catch it while I can.

I was looking forward to seeing the refurb of the Haunted Mansion. DH was too. It was closed the last time we were here. We grabbed some free ice water from Columbia Harbor House before we hopped into the 10 minute line.

DS was a little nervous about HM. The 10 minute wait consisted of us walking down the ropes and straight into HM. There was no time to read the tombstones. DS got a good laugh because some guests had followed the HM CM's instructions to a T. She said go all the way into the room. Do NOT stop unless you hit a wall. These guest literally banged into the wall and announced that it must be time to stop. Slapstick always gets a good chuckle out of DS. He relaxed.

Again. I LOVE HM!!! I noticed a few of the obvious changes. I like them. Not sure that I remember the ride well enough to pick out every one. I only rode the WDW version once.

DS wanted to do it AGAIN!! The line was now a 30 minute wait! Yikes! What a difference a parade makes! The crowd had dispersed and obviously, everyone in the vicinity of HM had decided to ride it afterward. Take note.

Potty break! We headed over to the one there between Frontierland and Adventureland.

Where to?

Jungle Cruise! We walked straight onto a boat. We were the first passengers. About 5 others came on board. The pilot decided we were full enough. Off we went. This is the CHEESIEST ride. We had a GREAT pilot. She was hilarious. The cruise at night is a whole lot better than during the day. And as we were winding through the jungle, the fireworks went off. Flashing high above the trees. What fun!

The line was pretty long for the Magic Carpets. I asked DS if he wanted to wait in this line. He would rather wait for BTMRR.

We headed back over to BTMRR to see what the wait was like now. If anything, it was worse. But for the first time ever, I got to watch the fireworks. We had a clear view of the ones that are set off behind the castle. I had no idea that they were set off so FAR behind the castle. It was kind of weird. There wasn't any music. But I still enjoyed it. Fireworks over, we got some more water, from Pecos Bill, and headed on over to Tomorrowland. Again, we just managed to cross the parade route in front of the castle this time before the CMs stopped pedestrian traffic.

Seeing that no one was waiting in line for the Photopass photographer here, we stopped here to memorialize the evening. I noticed that the photographer had some fun with the currently posing couple. Multiple poses. Telling them to do this and that. The gentleman was not too game, but the lady obviously was and the photographer was helping her out. He wasn't too creative with us. DS doesn't always cooperate when you are trying to take his picture. I think he has a hard time figuring out how to smile on demand. We just took a few and went on our merry way.

We made use of the facilities by the Plaza and noodle station.

We were about to get into the Buzz line when DS saw that we had passed the Laughing Floor. DS was super excited to go to the Laughing Floor. He had been seeing the commercials for it on the TV in the room. He would rather do that. A super short wait? OK. We headed into the air conditioned queue.

Ahhh. As we were listening to the announcement and reading the screens about submitting your joke that could get used in the show, DH and I discovered that neither one of us had brought our phones. That never happens. We don't have a landline at home. We really rely on our cells. We MUST be on vacation. We proceeded to talk about what joke we would submit if we could.

DS decided on, "Why didn't the skeleton cross the road?"

"He didn't have the guts!"

When you are standing in the briefing room, it takes much longer than you think it should to get into the SITTING position. Finally, we were making our way into the theater, sitting toward the front left. I was secretely hoping that DH would be picked for THAT GUY. When we first sat down, DS, with DH and myself on either side of him, was featured as "Sitting between two monsters." How fun! DS heard his joke in the show too! Not that he was credited with it. He wondered if someone heard him in line and used his joke. Funny boy. Other people have heard that joke before...

We laughed so hard during this show. It really hits our funny bone. We had a good audience too, which I think helps.

DS liked it so much, he wanted to turn around and do it again, but DH and I weren't too keen on the idea. Instead, we headed to Buzz.

We just about walked onto Buzz. This used to be the sharer of tied for first place on DS's short list. This was one of those lines where there is a line, but it is constantly moving. DS was picked to be a time keeper for this one.

590.jpg

591.jpg

DH was our personal time keeper. In every line he was checking his watch. Making notes, comparing our actual wait time with what was posted. So far we were under the posted time for every one. I heard, "There's no WAY that was 20 minutes. 10 TOPS." over and over again.

DS likes to drive during Buzz with DH and I using the guns on either side of him. DH hit something big multiple times. His score put mine to shame!

It was so sad to see the closed Space Mountain. But I totally understand. My memories of the Disneyland ride were not ANYthing like the herky jerky ride I had experienced here two years ago. It needed a refurb BIG time. I'll be happy to ride it when we go back next year. Meanwhile, we made good use of the facilities near by.

We were hot. And feeling kind of munchy. There, an ice cream place! Auntie Gravity's Galactic Goodies. Oh yummy. Too many choices. What to do? What to do? DS got a soft serve. DH got a sundae. And I got a tropical flavored smoothie. Oh! They all hit the spot! And we got a sprinkling of pixie dust. Happy anniversary! AND Happy Father's day!

I saw it happening as we were placing our order. We were the only guests here. They wished us a Happy Anniversary. How many years? (Everyone has to ask.) 12! WOW. The one cashier shook her head at the other cashier. They called our ordered to the back, but didn't ring them up. Free desserts for us! I almost wanted to turn it down. I mean, it's not like we have a shortage of snack credits on the deluxe plan.

Enjoying our ice cream, we walked and ate, meandering through the remainder of Tomorrowland and into Fantasyland. I saw that Peter Pan had a 90 minute wait! And people were in LINE! Oh my! I couldn't believe it. All of Fantasyland was busy. Nothing was a short wait. We continued eating our desserts and walking right on through Fantasyland. We don't wait. Move along. Nothing to see here.

We decided to head back over to BTMRR to check out the wait. EMH was in full swing. Hopefully, the wait would be much, much shorter.

Yeah. Right. The posted wait was 40 minutes. There were FP's available. They had started a fresh round of FP's with the start of EMH. The return time was way too late. DH didn't think we needed to be in the park that late. We took a look at the wait for SM. 10 minutes.

We opted to ride SM again and see what BTMRR was like afterward.

We squeezed into one row again. Oh please. Oh please. Water. Water. Water. We were calculating whether or not we thought we'd get it as we came around the bend. Nope. Struck out again!

We headed over to a see that BTMRR was still a 40 minute wait. Normally, we wouldn't wait. But DH had a point, saying, are we ever going to ride it or not?

We came here to ride BTMRR. We hopped into line. And kept walking. And walking. And walking. All the switchbacks were still open. Everyone just weaved their way around and around and around. We didn't stop until we were at the very bottom. On the ramp! "No way that was 40 minutes. 10 TOPS. Maybe 5. And we didn't even really wait. We walked." DH said.

The three of us squeezed in together. Like we did two years ago. BTMRR was more roomy than SM. Not too bad. DS likes us to ride all together. BTMRR was just as great as DS remembered.

"Let's do it again!!!!" DS exclaimed before we had even pulled back into the loading area.

As we pulled up, we noticed that the line was barely stopped on the ramp. OK!!!

"Let's do it again!!!"

OK!!!

Let's go do SM again!

OK! Don't you love vacation?

This time we decided to split up. It's just time. DS rode with DH in the front row. I rode behind them. And did we get splashed coming around the bend? NO!!! The whole boat was hopeful. It was still really warm.

This time, I decided to try a riding technique that I read about here on the Dis. A CM had recommended that when you ride, you look straight ahead and not down at the drop. Looking straight ahead, you will be looking at the castle. You will be looking straight at the camera too in your ride pic. AND it's a LOT of fun!! Woo hoo! Lift your hands up and look straight ahead!!

"Let's do it again!!!"

One more time. And then we should be going. We were already here longer than the return time for the BTMRR FP that had been posted.

We ran around. I advised DH and DS to do as I had done. Look straight ahead! And THIS time, we got SOAKED coming around the bend! At the end of this, the second time in a row, the fourth time of the night, the CM's looked at the empty line and said, want to ride again? SURE!

Oh my. I tell you what. I was DONE with that song for the night! Five times on SM!

And the night was done with us. Wow. It's 3:00 AM!! We closed down MK! Frontierland was EMPTY. Like WOW empty. And we were HUNGRY. Like we had eaten dinner 7 hours ago HUNGRY. The popcorn stand in Frontierland was closing for the night. And yes, they were just going to throw all that extra popcorn away. Try the cart in front of the castle.

Yay! That cart was still open! We got a bucket and a bottled water for 2 snack credits. Munching and drinking, we worked our way down Main Street. There were many more people here. I can't remember what it was now, but we got to see the goodnight event for the castle. An announcement and a twinkle at the castle? It was just a simple little thing. I was happy to see it though.

I headed into Guest Services near the park entrance. I HAD to see if there was any way to change our breakfast ADR. "Can I help you?"

"Maybe. You see. It's 3:00 AM. I have an 8:10 AM ADR at Donald's Safari breakfast for later this morning. Not sure that I should keep that. Can I change it?"

Nope. And nothing was available all week. OK. I guess we'll keep it then. We couldn't miss this one. It was the ONLY one that DS had requested when I was planning the trip.

It was heaven to walk the short distance to the boat launch and have a minimal if any wait for the boat. I asked the one other couple onboard to take our pic to memorialize the moment.

593.jpg

A short walk back to the room.

The popcorn didn't quite do it for us. We ate some anniversary cake! DH and I had a beer. And then we took a nap. As we were eating, drinking, and getting ready for sleep we were joking about our Elijah experience. We think it's a funny story about when Elijah was having a pity party and complaining to God. God said, Here, have some cake and take a nap. Here we were doing the same thing. Sometimes, cake and a nap is just what you need!

And that was ALL we were going to get too. DS made sure that I wrote down the time when he got into bed. 3:47 AM. He had definitely beaten his friend's late night record.

Have a nice nap son. We are eating breakfast with Donald in about 4 hours!

 You're so sweet to think of me!

What was the date exactly of the night you're asking? I do hope you can catch up to my TR, it'd be hilarious if you made it in the background of some of my pics!

love it, love it, LOVE IT! Great night at MK! What troopers you all are, staying up til 3!!!!!!! WOW!

Love the pic of ya'll on the boat back to WL- you look like you're having the time of your life! Thanks for the tip about looking at the castle while on splash- we'll have to try that.

And yet *another* thing we have in common- I too did Magical Music Days at DL in high school. Twice. I think 1988 and 1989. (and I noted we're the same age, 37!). Too much!!!

I look forward to reading more! :cloud9:

Father's Day. June 21.

I'll catch up! Being in someone else's pics would be really funny!

We were having a blast! It's the only reason that we stayed and kept going. Why stop a good time? It was cooler than it would be during the day. And shade everywhere!:rotfl:

I did Magical Music Days in 87, 88, 89! How funny is that? Graduated 90.

Okay, I have not finished reading all of your updates, but I wanted to comment on the first few! We have those same light sabers! The double sided, and I too was frustrated that they would't let you just buy the "cap" at the end -- it is so funny that they don't see how they are making or could make more money on these goofy things! The extra crystals are kinda funny, they sorta work, but my boys love these! Fun to take out at night!

Your photos CRACK me UP!!!! Very silly! Especially the one with Buzz !! :lmao:

I am still in DTD with ya, just had lunch!!! SO let me get back to this later tonight!

Also, the LEGO store, the LEGO lifestyle... YES.. We live that too!!! EVERYWHERE. Except we had to add shelves in our house to place the completed models on, so DS7 could play with them, and DS4 wouldn't godzilla them if they were on the floor or table unattended.... believe me, that has been an "issue" between the brothers!!

I loved LEGO when I was a kid ... we all still enjoy playing around. I love that they keep kids captivated, and it is really good for small-motor skill development and strengthing the hand, manipulatives of any kind are, for writing, etc.

We love soccer too! Both DS play, DH "assists" the coach of the 1st grade now second grade team!

Okay, back for more later! :thumbsup2

Father's Day. June 21.

I'll catch up! Being in someone else's pics would be really funny!

We didn't get to WDW until June 22...but the 21st, we were in Gainesville so we were in the same state at least!

Hi! I just found your TR and have been reading along, not all caught up yet, but I just read your post about finding the back entrance to DIsney property! We did the exact same thing, in fact, I just wrote about it in my TR. Reams Road, Right?

You are a terrific writer, I am really enjoying it! Looks we were in Disney around the same time, we were there June 23-July 1. :goodvibes

Wow, what a day! Can't wait to hear if you make it to breakfast!:goodvibes

It was an amazing day! DS calls Disney days, LONG days, with good reason.:goodvibes

:lmao:

I totally agree. I really pushed a bit, in a nice way of course, about that silly little part. Because of the inventory of something silly. The whole thing was ridiculous to me because they scan each individual part when they ring the thing up. Why couldn't they just scan that little piece? And as much as I WANTED to, I did NOT slip one into my bag and leave a dollar on the counter!:rotfl2: I did think about it though...

Yes, we have a good time with pictures. If you notice DS is always trying to make a face or pose or act something out. It's only when you want him to just stand and SMILE that there seems to be a problem.:confused3

It's so good to hear others talk about their Lego woes. Seriously. Misery shared is cut in half right? We also had to get some display areas in the house for the finished creations. Not because of a younger sibling though...cats. Our kittys think Lego make GREAT toys. They slide real good across the wood floor. Oh. And did I mention that me entire house is hard flooring? I find Lego in the closets (sliding under the doors), under the couch, under the washer, under the dryer, in the pantry, etc etc.

Soccer is the best. We totally enjoy it. The more you get into it, the more you might get into the pros as well. We watched the US make it to the finals for the whatever cup last night. I swear. I really need to learn spanish. Like I said. We don't have cable. We got the converter and that opened up a whole new world of channels for us. Usually, it's the spanish speaking stations that cover soccer. So seriously. We sit and watch soccer in spanish ALL THE TIME! I recognize the player names. And it's not hard to translate GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!

We didn't get to WDW until June 22...but the 21st, we were in Gainesville so we were in the same state at least!

I knew we were off just a bit, but I couldn't remember when you were arriving! I got all caught up on your TR. You'd think that with our schedules we would have run into each other!:rotfl:

WELCOME!! Yes!!! Reams Rd. I'll have to check out your TR! I think I saw that it was a honeymoon trip? Congratulations! Glad you are enjoying the TR!:goodvibes

That picture of the three of y'all on the boat! I hope you have that framed -you all look so happy!

Great job!

I knew we were off just a bit, but I couldn't remember when you were arriving! I got all caught up on your TR. You'd think that with our schedules we would have run into each other!:rotfl:

I'm thinking that we have to be in the background of each other's pics sometime!

GREAT updates. I think those lightsabers are cool. Do the fit into each other to reduce the size? I am think if it's extended the whole way there is no way to take it home on the plane.
I so want to stay at WL some day. I have some debt I am working on paying off (at this pace it will take awhile) but when it's done, I am saving so we can upgrade to WL.
When we went on BTMR the posted time was like 20 or something like that, and all we did was walk and then get right on. It was so cool.
You are making me want to be there right now! ;)

Okay okay okay. WAIT... DID you SERIOUSLY STAY UP UNTIL 3AM?????!!!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS! AND THEN WENT TO EAT BREAKFAST AT 8?????? I can't remember if you made it, I think you did, and said something vague about being up late, but I had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO idea this is what you called late!!! :lmao:

Good grief, if I tell my DH that we could stay at MK until 3am, he would LAUGH at me... :rotfl: We made it to 11:30 on night only... but that is because we were worried about young children combusting.... Maybe one trip, like next summer, we will try a late night!

Looking forward to the next post, just loved all the details from this day, from the wakeup to the sundown and sun rise as the case may be!!!! A great first Park experience no question!! :goodvibes

I love that pic.:lovestruc We WERE happy campers.

You'd think we would. I'll be looking. Someone found their daughter in the background of one of my restaurant pics!:rotfl:

The lightsabers do close into eachother to a certain extent. There's the handle and then there's the saber part. The saber part is probably 8" long? You can take it apart again for packing.

WL was a very nice place to stay. I would stay there again when I didn't plan on using the pool too much. Personally, we didn't care for the pool. So I wouldn't be staying there during the summer again. Everything else though...I would especially love to see it during Christmas.

There was only one time that the posted time was seriously out of whack and the wait was much much longer than what was posted.

I'm getting all geared up to go back to WDW. DH's family is serious about going in June 2010. I am the official planner.

Okay okay okay. WAIT... DID you SERIOUSLY STAY UP UNTIL 3AM?????!!!!!!

Yes. We were SERIOUSLY at the park until closing. And we were UP until 4:00 AM. Crazy, huh? We were having a good time. We weren't in the heat. I don't know. We just kept going. Didn't really plan on it. Especially with the breakfast ADR at 8:10 AM the next, oh, the SAME day!:rotfl2:

And YES. You know we made it to that breakfast. A TAD late, as I said in my dining report. But we were there! Remember the great pic of Donald passing DS and giving a quick pose on the way to another table? Big smiles at breakfast even!

I'm glad you like the details. I finally had some time to really write again. I rushed a bit through some of the DTD posting. These house projects! OOF. DH cut the holes out for the sinks. And he cut the backboard to mount on the plywood. He got it all done. He had to buy a special mask for cutting the backer board because it has silica or something in it? You can't risk breathing that stuff in. Major cancer risk. We might be dryfitting the tile tomorrow. Putting together the puzzle pieces is the way I think about it. And slowly by surely I'm getting the skim coat done on the walls. It wears out my shoulder, so I have take a break. I feel like such a wimp, but my arms aren't my strong point. Like most women, my strength is in my legs. Ah well. It's getting there. Not too hard. Just lots of little steps.

Might not be able to post the next installment until Monday. We'll see how tomorrow goes. We went to see the Dynamo play tonight. DS got to be on the field to form the tunnel for the players! He went to a Dynamo sponsored soccer camp, and this was the night for the campers to get a free ticket and do the field thing. Pretty cool.:thumbsup2

Hi! Just found your TR today and read through the whole thing. Our trip dates overlapped but so far we have been different schedules. Since my brain can't remember all the things I wanted to say, here are just a couple...

I LOVE your writing style! Love the details. This has been so much fun to read. Also, I did the Magic Music Days back in the day myself. So funny how that pops up from time to time. You are right that PotC is different at DL than WDW. Very different. There are 2 drops and then end is completely different as well. The ride with a submarine....they had a submarine ride at DL for a long time, and then they closed it for a long time. Now it has been re-opened at the Nemo ride...which is very similar to the one at WDW now.

Great TR! Can't wait to read more.

I REALLY want to make it back to DL!!! ::yes:: I haven't been since fall 1990. The CA Adventure park wasn't there. And now that I have been to WDW, I totally want to see how things are different. I admit that the first time I rode PoTC in WDW, I was SOOOO disappointed. It wasn't like what I remembered AT ALL! I got over that, but still. I'm so curious. I suppose I could look on you tube, but I want to EXPERIENCE the difference!

Oh. And WELCOME! Glad to have you join in!

The alarm was set for 7:00 AM. Oof.

I'm not sure that DH really thought we were going to make it to our ADR. I knew he wanted to, but sometimes, the spirit is willing, but the body is weak. Disney is to DH as fishing/snowboarding is to me! If you get me out of bed, I will go. But I don't really have the motivation to get out of bed on my own.

I DID have the motivation. Maybe it wasn't the BEST thing to do. Maybe we should have just canceled the ADR. Maybe we should have slept in, done a bit of swimming and just picked up our plan in the evening. Maybe?

But we didn't. I got out of bed and headed into the shower. We did the same routine as the day before. I got DH out of bed and into a shower. Then we got DS out of bed and into a bath. I was a bit worried that DS would fall asleep in the tub. He was so droopy. Eyes closed. I felt BAD getting him up and getting him ready to go to. But another part of me didn't want to deal with upset that might happen later when DS realized that he wouldn't be able to go to Donald's breakfast.

DS is a memory boy. We've gone through so many different phases of toy storage over the years. There have been times when he will suddenly remember a toy that he hasn't seen in over 6 months and wonder WHERE is that, Momma? This. At four years old he did. I don't get rid of toys and things on the sly. We make a big production of getting rid of the old to make way for the new. Fortunately, I also have one of those memories. I can find that toy.

I knew we would likely see Donald at Chef Mickey's, but I just didn't want to chance the potential melt down later. I've had this happen before, DS has said the words, "You SHOULD have..." and it always deals with how I should have made him do something.

So. I put on my BEST Momma. I let the grumpy attitude this morning slide. Because it was coming at me in WAVES this morning. Cheerful I was, even in the face of super grump. I believed that DS could get over it. He sprang from DH and I after all. And if it's one thing that DH and I may have too much pride about, it's our perceived ability to suck it up, deal with it, push on through, be what we call HARD CORE!

Grumpy trailed behind us as we walked out to the car. When I set the alarm for 7:00 AM, I knew we would not be trying to take the character meal bus. As he was getting ready, DH was like, we aren't taking the bus? Um. No. We would have had to be on it at the TIME that we woke up.

I chose the before the park opens ADR for this day because AK had PM EMH on this Monday. I figured that we would have an afternoon break and then be able to come back later and see AK at night. Something I was really excited to see and do. I like being able to see all the parks at night. Late night AK really isn't that late, by comparison. So we shouldn't be up too terribly late.

There was a bit of line for getting through the parking gate here. We were parking the car at 8:18 AM. A bit late for our 8:10 AM ADR, but what can you do?

Weaving in and out of the crowd, which was truly amazing at this time of the morning, I asked a CM where we went to get in for the character breakfast. She gave me incorrect directions. They designate one or two turnstyles for character breakfast guests. On this morning, it was on the far right side of the turnstyles. Check your name off the list. Insert your card. Enter to a virtually empty park.

I HIGHLY recommend doing this ADR before the park opens. It's so peaceful. So quiet. It's a joy to weave through the narrow, shaded paths of the entrance when no one is there! How fortunate though that there WAS someone there. A Photopass photographer! Yay!

We look downright funny in these pictures, which again, you'll just have to wait for. DS is NOT cooperating with the picture-taking AT ALL this morning. He is SUPER GRUMP! The photographer decided that he would try to cheer DS up. So he started messing with him. Things like holding out our photopass card and then snatching it away when DS started to reach for it. Giving him a hard time. I kinda wanted to slap the photographer. Since when did teasing someone EVER make them feel better? Do some slap stick dude, if you REALLY want to try to get someone to crack a smile.

Despite how ridiculous we look, the photos of my family with NO other people in the background are still pretty cool to have. It's the other side of our wonderful late night.

I did give DS a bit of a talking to as we continued to make our way to the back of the park where Tusker House is located. Keep this in mind if you plan your own ADRs. It's quite a haul to get back there. I reminded DS that we had an awesome time the night before. We were up and awake now. We could definitely take a nap today. And since he was on his feet to eat breakfast with Donald, he might as well make the best of it. He was picking his attitude. He was choosing how this day was going to be. DH and I were in fine spirits and we didn't get any more sleep than he did. I said this all in my most reasonable, encouraging Momma voice. The one that is like, come on son. You can do it. I know you can.

Now perhaps, you can understand what all conspired to put me in my punchy mood. Which you can read about in more detail, along with all about our dining experience at Donald's, if you haven't already, in my dining report here.

But just as a recap, for those of you that HAVE read my dining report. DS straightened up and decided to fly right in a very short amount of time. Remember this happy face?

We left Donald's feeling REALLY good. AMAZINGLY good. Time keeper DH announced that it was 9:20 AM! We were deep in the park and on our way to ride Expedition Everest for the first time! We were all pumped!

We were walking along the pathway around the backside of the big tree. I didn't know that there were a bunch of character meet and greet spots all along this path. I was walking with tunnel vision, intent on the goal. DH was the one that got all excited. There's Baloo and King Louie! Sweet!

These character meets are a real treat. I admit that we haven't stopped at ANY of them before. Anywhere. Here, the meets take place off the beaten path. They are like little clearings in the forest of shade trees. A little path of varying lengths will lead back to where a character is almost hiding. Where Baloo and King Louie were was a little structure with wood posts and a thatched like roof. There was a Photopass photographer here. And I'm so glad he was.

I asked the character handler if they signed autographs, knowing that some characters don't. Baloo signs, but not King Louie. Meanwhile...

The newfound joy alighting DS with a tummy full of crispy bacon and interacting with his fav Donald must have shone forth. King Louie also decided to mess with DS. This time, however, DS was more than willing to paricipate in a game of copy cat, follow the leader. They did mirror image dancing. King Louie moved like this and DS did too. Move like that. Follow the leader. Left. Right. Spin around. Do this. Do that. It went on. It was hilariously fun. And the Photopass guy got it ALL. Wait till you see these pics!

Baloo was feeling left out of the game. He had finished signing my book. He wanted in on the action with DS now. He tapped DS on the shoulder. Making play ape with me gestures, he walked over to one of the poles and stratched his back up and down on it. DS did likewise. Stratching up and down ala real life Jungle Book. So fun.

The posed shot is the one that I used my free 5 x 7 photopass picture coupon for. After several shots, I realized that I was the only one that had sunglasses on. DH and DS didn't. I shouted out to please get one more! I need my glasses off! Thank you!

Now DH was on the lookout. There wasn't any wait for these characters. AT ALL. Everyone was intent on their beeline to EE or the Safari.

Down a much longer path, we found Flik, from A Bug's Life. I may be in the minority here, but this wasn't my fav Disney movie. I saw it once or twice. I saw it more in stores like Best Buy when it was more popular and they would show it on all the wide screen televisions. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what this ant's name was. Neither could DH. We were like, Oh yeAH, when he signed our book.

This meet is on the right side of the pathway. The backdrop is the tree. It's a GREAT photo OP with a character and the iconic AK tree. Really cool!

DH's eagle eye noted that we missed a character! That little ape from Tarzan. It's Rosie! What was her name again? Seriously. We were so brain dead this morning!

Again, I asked the character handler if she signed. She did. Ah. Yes. Terk. There wasn't a Photopass photographer here. I guess I could have asked the handler to take a picture of all of us. DH snapped this one.

606.jpg

Now that we were in a picture taking mood. I saw that there was no one waiting for the Photopass photographer at the tree photo op. This was one of the few I asked to also use my camera to take a picture. The are all supposed to also use your camera, if you ask them. I didn't always. I don't want to frustrate my men more than necessary with my desire for pictures. I try to stream line the process as much as possible.

The photopass photos have a much better exposure, but this is the spot:

607.jpg

We peeked at the Kali River Rapids. 10 minute wait! Sweet! EE was our destination though. We kept walking. 20 minutes for EE! Woo hoo! We hopped in the line. We were so excited!

On our first visit to WDW, Spring Break with DS in Kindergarten, we tried to ride EE. I can't remember if the ride had just opened recently or what, but my impression is that it was newish. It was beyond popular. It was impossible to ride. It wasn't our TOP priority on that trip. DS was pretty nervous about it. It never worked out to ride.

On our second trip, we didn't go to AK at all. Again. That makes it pretty impossible to ride.

Now. Here we were. DS was super duper excited. Not really nervous at all. He was PUMPED up. I was hearing OH YEAH. I hope we get to sit in the front row! Major excitement going on.

Time was passing quickly as we went through the queue and we admired Disney Imagineering. The staging here is really fun. We were moving too quickly for picture taking. There was barely time to appreciate all the gear on display.

And we greatly admired it. DH and I were big into backpacking when we lived in Colorado. I never went on any technical climbs. DH did though. He even took a backcountry survival/avalanche course. DH has always been big into the outdoors. We dream about traveling and climbing the famous mountains of the world. DH wants to hit Kilamanjaro among the first because it doesn't require technical skills to get to the top. We look at the RCI site and guided tours and dream.

Right now, Everest was calling our name. We entered the loading area. DS was thrilled. FRONT ROW BABY!! I know that EE was operating at a lower level during our visit. Something to do with how the Yeti is during the ride. We didn't even SEE the Yeti when we rode it. We heard him. But no sitings.

We headed over to Kali. This was another one that we hadn't ridden. It was actually a bit chilly at times during our Spring Break trip. Hard to believe that in current 105+ heat index. But true. Getting wet would have been miserable. Getting wet in this heat would have been a blessing.

Alas. This was not to be. The wait that was 10 minutes had jumped to 20. We walked and walked til the line backed up. We were looking for a spot of shade.

I had realized that I had forgotten sun screen on the way into the park. I couldn't believe it. Normally, I am something of a sun screen hound. I am very particular about which brands I buy. My favorite is Blue Lizard. It is the BEST. Hard to find though. Knowing what I do though, I buy sunscreen with Zinc Oxide. As much as possible. I don't care that it leaves a white residue. It works. Its a sun blocker. Other chemicals are sun absorbers. Not blockers. Blockers work better on our skin. I was kicking myself that I didn't have it with me.

And I had on the wrong shoes. I wanted to wear my Tevas for KRR. Not my cute newish leather sandals! What can you do though?

I was wondering how this day was going to progress. We needed to get some sleep. Some sunscreen. Planning, organizing, Dis freak Momma was wracking her brain on what to do with this day.

Then I saw the face. The DS face. We had business to take care of. And we needed to go back to the resort to take care of it. That's DS's preference. I respect that. I include this in vague language for all you parents out there that will immediately understand. You are not alone. In other circumstances, I might have been more upset at the thought of cutting our park touring short.

We backtracked out of the KRR queue. As we passed the entrance area, we overheard the CMs announcing that KRR was experiencing technical difficulties. It had been shut down temporarily. They didn't know when it would get going again. They were working as quickly as possible to get it going again.

DH and I looked at each and just thought how blessed we were. What perfect timing.

We happily made our way out of the park. The paths at the park entrance were sparsely populated. We admired the birds on the way out. DS is too young to remember that during the summer of his second year (18 months old), we went to the zoo every other day. The Sedgwick County zoo in Wichita, KS, is an AWESOME zoo. It was $45 for a family membership. It was like going to a park with animals all over. State of the art lion exhibit. Walkthrough Australian exhibit where you entered into the domain of the birds, etc. You could bring in outside food. Have a picnic. Get the free refillable popcorn bucket. We averaged going about 4 times a week.

I relived those days a bit as we exclaimed over the bright colors of the birds.

608.jpg

And admired the grooming of these birds.

Timing was just perfect. We hopped on the shuttle to take us to our car. We were congratulating ourselves for accomplishing what we really wanted to do. Eat with Donald and ride EE. And reliving how fun the characters were. Icing on the cake it was.

Back in the lovely air conditioned room, we turned on the television. No soccer. Golf. I'm not sure exactly HOW DS got so interested in golf. But he is. He likes watching it on television even. Weird. I know. Let me tell you how easy it is to fall asleep to golf.

DH was out in no time at all.

DS was feeling kinda munchy. He started munching on Slim Jims. Tucked into bed. Under the ceiling fan. Watching some television. What a vacation.

I decided that I wouldn't be able to make it through to dinner without some food. I was munchy too. I was thirsty too. I headed on down to Roaring Fork to see what I could put together for snack credits.

To see what I put together, read the info from my dining report here, if you haven't read it already.

I really enjoyed the peace and quiet of my balcony snack lunch. It was here that I realized that we had one of those balconies that everyone tries to avoid at WL. The railing is constructed of wide wooden boards. Not rod iron. When you sit. It's very difficult to see over the rail to the view. Very private though.

Appetite assuaged. I headed back into the dark, air conditioned haven that was our room with black out curtains pulled. Ahhh. Black out curtains. Again I thought to myself that I really needed to make some for our bedrooms.

In no time. I too joined my men in dream land.

I'm so glad that your are enjoying my TR! I think it's always interesting to see how people put together different schedules for the same time period. I'll have to head over to your TR to see! :goodvibes:

Oh. And WELCOME! Glad to have you join in!

I'm not suprised that our schedules were different. We stayed off property so the plan was to AVOID any park that had EMH as much as possible. The EMH would make the park so crowded during the day, with no reward of getting the extra hours later.

I grew up in Oroville, which is north of Sacramento. I live in Redding now but I have lived all over the state. I think I went to Magic Music days in 1989 - 1991 ish. I graduated in 1992 and we didn't go that year.

You should really check out the DL Resort again. Right now they are totally overhauling DCA so I would wait until they are done with that, so that it is worth the money you are spending. But in my opinion, some of the rides are SO much better at DL. Not all of them, but definitely PotC, Small World, Space Mountain. Plus they have the Indiana Jones ride which is a favorite of ours, and Roger Rabbit in Toontown.

Sorry, I won't hijack anymore! Looking forward to more updates!
