Sleeping with Snore-er

We have figured out venting the frustration by elbowing/ pushing/ screaming at your spouse is not fair to either one!

OK...I don't really hit him. I nudge the mattress or pull his pillow slightly to adjust his head. I have given up and slept on the couch before too.

It's actually not my husband that I'll be cruising with for the cruise in question- it's my Mom. She has a list of health issues so I'm not going to add "go have a sleep apnea test done" to the list. And, she is now single so usually her snoring wouldn't be bothering anyone. I think I may have to try some sort of white noise on my iTouch.

Really this is more my problem than hers. I'm an extremely light sleeper. I use earplugs every night and I still wake up when my son coughs during the night- and his bedroom is on a different floor of our house.

Does anyone know if the curtains block very much noise? Perhaps I could close them up and sleep on the couch.

If it is in our cabin, it's probably DH and I hit him. ;) If it is the person in the cabin next to us I bang on the wall to wake them up so they will stop. Yes, this happened one time around 2 a.m. on the Magic Room 8004. I was woken up by someone snoring next door. :(

I had this once...don't remember which cabin except that it was a cat 10. It was AWFUL! I thought about calling the next cabin on the phone to wake the guy.

I had decided that was my next step when they stopped. LOL!

Absolutely get another cabin if you can. The snoring will get old real fast and lead to you being overtired and angry. My mother snored and my husband snores. The white noise machine is my savior. We don't sleep together at home, but on a cruise, the machine works 99% of the time. If he really snores, I will push him till he turns over. IMHO if he won't get a sleep study done, then he has to deal with getting woken up to turn over. Bring an extension cord to bring the machine closer to you also.

We are leaving for Disney in 2 weeks! I am excited about the trip - except for my husband's snoring! He has ordered a mouth piece and I have earplugs. Also, I always try to go to sleep first. :wizard:

The good thing about the Dream is that there is a plug right under the Ipod dock so you will no longer need an extension cord for the white noise machine when you are travelling on the new ships!

I use the wax ear plugs which helps a lot, and then I will take Benadryl to get to sleep. If that doesn't work, I will end up "adjusting his pillow slightly" :lmao: and will eventually end up on the couch if at home.

My husband has a mouth piece, too, and it makes SUCH a difference! We also have one of those sleep sound machines. When I set it to the "rain" sound, I'm out in no time. :cloud9:

I'd also like to add that taking 2 Advil PM's will knock you out, but wine works if you like it. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if the iPod dock will work for iPhone 3GS - and if so, does it charge the phone? I have the White Noise app on mine.

not sure what I'm gonna do either! At home we sleep in separate adjoining bedrooms.

Our last cruise we had 2 inside cabins so he slept in 1 with 1 kid and I slpt in 1 with the other 2. This cruise we have the cheapest, smallest cabins we could get, 1 cabin for us and my inlaws have the other cabin(1 kid will sleep in their room). What is this mouthpiece you talk about and where can I get one for him! He snores even when he lays on his stomach!

That is a huge problem for us as well. Any time we travel. I can't fall asleep on a plane because I have to be on high alert to elbow him if he falls asleep so that he doesn't become the mockery of the plane.

I too am a night owl and prefer staying up a little later. I tried going to bed earlier but then when HE fell asleep in the living room waiting for ME to fall asleep in the bedroom, his snoring kept me awake - so I left him on the couch!

The ONLY savior for when we are at home is that he is a :firefight and sleeps at the firehouse on average 2 - 4 (sometimes 5) nights a week. So I don't get SO crazy on the nights that he is home because I know it truly could be worse and also because I know the other guys in the bunkroom give him hell over it as well. :rolleyes1

I will have to look into this mouthguard as well. He went for the sleep study, found that he has sleep apnea but will not get the mask to fix it. He sleeps on his stomach 99% of the time and said he can't sleep with something like that on his face. I was tempted to give him the choice of the mask or me covering his mouth when he slept but thought better because that would just NOT end well, lol!

Thanks for the tips!

Kat

Coming from someone who has just had ANOTHER sleepless night, I think a pillow held firmly over the offender's head might do the trick. :lmao:

Just kidding (sorta) ;)

:thumbsup2 :lmao: I've thought of doing that many times. ;)

I just did this. We decided, it was worth the $$$$. Otherwise, we'd all be tired and miserable.

DH often dreams of big, fluffy "marshmallows".;)

Please please PLEASE - beg, plead, threaten divorce - whatever, but pursuade your husband to get the CPAP and a mask that FITS. You do NOT want to be an early widow and sleep apnea contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease. I am the snorer - I got used to it - never lay down without it - He CAN get used to it if he puts his mind to it.

Alternative - make sure he has a good will and lots of life insurance.

This was a problem for us too. When I first moved in with my dh, the snoring chased me out to the living room night after night. After several years of the snoring (and he would fall asleep all the time after sleeping all night), I made him go get checked out and he has sleep apnea. It's been about 6 years since the study, and the cpap has been a life saver. I'm so used to the white noise from the machine that it's hard to sleep without it, lol. I know they make dental devices for those suffering from sleep apnea as well, and I would assume one could feasibly sleep in whatever position they like without the machine attached. Thanks to the PP who gave the info about the outlet by the bedside...that's where the dh will be sleeping.

I feel your pain OP. After 25 years, I leave him at home otherwise it's not a vacation! :rotfl2:

Trust me, that doesn't work. They will just wake you up. I know, I'm abnormal.

DW and I both snore. I think a huge part of the problem is your mindset. Once my wife and I just got it into our heads that if we wanted to sleep, we had to ignore the snoring, we were able to fall asleep despite the snoring.
I think my father in law put it best, you just have to conditon yourself. He got his conditioning in the Air Force. When you were ordered to go to sleep, you learned to go to sleep right then., or you ended up doing laps, or push ups, or KP.
He did 3 tours in Vietnam, and even with the gunfire and bombing, when it was time shift to sleep, he slept.
