Sleeping with Snore-er

DW and I both snore. I think a huge part of the problem is your mindset. Once my wife and I just got it into our heads that if we wanted to sleep, we had to ignore the snoring, we were able to fall asleep despite the snoring.

That would be nice, but not everyone can sleep through the noise. If I fall asleep before DH? I still wake up when he starts sawing logs.

Please please PLEASE - beg, plead, threaten divorce - whatever, but pursuade your husband to get the CPAP and a mask that FITS. You do NOT want to be an early widow and sleep apnea contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease. I am the snorer - I got used to it - never lay down without it - He CAN get used to it if he puts his mind to it.

Alternative - make sure he has a good will and lots of life insurance.

My dad had a stroke at age 60--he was otherwise in excellent health, no high blood pressure or anything--the neurologist said it was due to undiagnosed sleep apnea. The neurologist said it's one of the leading causes of the strokes he's seen in younger people.

My dad was a HORRIBLE snorer--my sister and I refused to sleep in the same hotel room with him once we got old enough to protest. Before that, I slept in the bathroom on vacation more nights than I can count because I couldn't sleep through the racket.

Is it your spouse? Mine was a terrible snorer and denied for years that he had sleep apnea. He finally had a sleep study done, and guess what - he had sleep apnea! Now he has a cpap machine and there's no more snoring. :)

That's exactly what happened to us too!
My husband snored every night.
He refused to go and get tested as he hates going to the doctor's or anything like that but he almost had an accident by falling asleep when he was driving. It scared him so much, he finally got tested.
Now we have a CPAP machine, it's brilliant! No more snoring and he feels like he has so much more energy. He is happy and getting a good night's sleep and has lost weight. :)

If you live with a snorer, I think you should encourage them to get tested as you never know, if they are actually getting a full night's sleep!

That is a huge problem for us as well. Any time we travel. I can't fall asleep on a plane because I have to be on high alert to elbow him if he falls asleep so that he doesn't become the mockery of the plane.

I too am a night owl and prefer staying up a little later. I tried going to bed earlier but then when HE fell asleep in the living room waiting for ME to fall asleep in the bedroom, his snoring kept me awake - so I left him on the couch!

The ONLY savior for when we are at home is that he is a :firefight and sleeps at the firehouse on average 2 - 4 (sometimes 5) nights a week. So I don't get SO crazy on the nights that he is home because I know it truly could be worse and also because I know the other guys in the bunkroom give him hell over it as well. :rolleyes1

I will have to look into this mouthguard as well. He went for the sleep study, found that he has sleep apnea but will not get the mask to fix it. He sleeps on his stomach 99% of the time and said he can't sleep with something like that on his face. I was tempted to give him the choice of the mask or me covering his mouth when he slept but thought better because that would just NOT end well, lol!

Thanks for the tips!

Kat

I feel for you Kat, as I have a stubborn husband too when it comes to medical things. However, if your husband has sleep apnea, he really is putting his life at risk, especially if he is sleeping into his pillow on his stomach. :(
We found that you can buy a special pillow with a "cut-out" for the CPAP mask to fit into it. Maybe you could mention this to him, as he would still be able to sleep on his stomach but at least he would not suffocate in the process.
Good luck. :)

LOL, I can totally relate!!!! Isn't it embarrassing when he starts snoring on the plane and everyone's staring at you?! :headache:

Seriously, Ambien really works for the non-snorer. I wouldn't recommend it every night, because it can be addictive...but for those nights when you just CAN'T wear earplugs one more time without screaming, it's a wonderful thing!! My DH often waits downstairs for me to fall asleep too before he comes up...but it just puts more pressure on me to fall asleep, because I know he's waiting!! I'm seriously contemplating separate rooms when my oldest moves out. I really hate the idea, because I love our snuggle time, but it's not healthy for us non-snorers to lose sleep either!!

If it is in our cabin, it's probably DH and I hit him. ;) If it is the person in the cabin next to us I bang on the wall to wake them up so they will stop. Yes, this happened one time around 2 a.m. on the Magic Room 8004. I was woken up by someone snoring next door. :(

If this was the end of May 2009, I am very sorry. I have since lost 50 pounds and no longer snore. You can safely book the room next to us now.:rolleyes::cool2:

get two cabins.....on different decks.....:lmao:

no, really, I was the same way, I did do the sleep study, got my cpap machine, and have never slept soooo good!, oh my wife loves it too!!! :rotfl2:

Disney Cruise does provide distilled water for you as well.

with the "Classic Ships" the plug situation, isn't the best, but with an extension cord, it is manageable...
