Sleeping arrangement for 2 yr old and infant

Hi Everyone!

My family is staying at the GF in a studio villa this fall. I am seeking advice from parents who have been in our situation before as to what is the best sleeping arrangement with two little ones. DS will be 28 months old at the time of travel and we will have a 4 month old infant. Obviously the baby will go in a pack n play, but where would be the best spot for DS2? I am worried he will fall off the murphy bed and have been told bed rails cannot go on a murphy bed. We'd prefer to save space by not having to open the sofa bed if possible, but of course are willing to do that if it's best for DS. Did anyone have a 2 yr old on the taller side that still slept in a pack n play? Will he be too big at that point? Advice appreciated!

I have a big toddler...I'll get official measurements tomorrow. But he's 15 months old and weighs almost 29 lbs and is about 32 inches tall. We are going to Disney in 3 months. I've rented a crib for him. I think he would be ok in the pack n play for a night or 2, but I really don't think he would be comfortable in it for a week.

Does he sleep in a crib or a toddler bed at home? If he sleeps in a crib, you could rent one. If he sleeps in a toddler bed, I have seen inflatable toddler mattresses. They're smaller than a twin and have slightly raised sides to help the kid not fall off. I don't think my son is ready for that yet, but I might look into it next year.

Not sure about the specific GF murphy bed, but in general with my 2 y.o. in hotels we have used either pillows or rolled up towels underneath the fitted sheet (between the fitted sheet and mattress). It isn't the same as a rail, but it creates enough of a bump/barrier that it stopped her from rolling over it and onto the floor in her sleep.

How about just using the mattress from the Murphy bed on the floor??

If the GF murphy bed is the one I saw in the model room you kid won't roll very far of the bed. It is like a mattress on a box spring.

One thing you can do is bring a pool noodle and put it under the sheet on the outside edge of the murphy bed. It will work as a makeshift bedrail and they only need 1 side as the other is a solid wall.

You can roll up towels and put them under the bed sheet to create a blocker for rolling. Also, When we staying at AoA with my 2 year old in the murphy bed, we were able to use the bed rails. It wasn't great, but it worked. Something we have done at other hotels is to put chairs next to the bed so he would just roll into the back of the chair. He also will happily sleep on the floor on top of a blanket. Lots of options.

He moves all over the crib at night so therein lies my concern. I guess a lot can change by November but I am grateful to hear all these options!

I was the first who replied to you above. I would go with the pack n play if your son will be comfortable in it. My son is the same as yours. He's a very sound sleeper, but I think he would end up in another country without being contained! I just rented a crib for him because he's already so big.

Are you driving or flying? When we drove for our holiday (not Disney) we too large pool noodles and stuck them under the fitted sheet of the bed she slept in. Gave enough of a bump that she would stop rolling and go back.

My son is almost 3 and can still fit in a pack n play! We tried the Murphy bed at the Caribbean beach last fall and it just didn't work. He was way too interested in everything around him to sleep so we called for a pack n play. He was 37 inches at the time. Talk enough for barnstormer but not seven dwarves! Ha.

If it were me I would just ask for an extra pack n play. Have fun!

I've flown with pool noodles because many hotels do not have bed rails (Disney does). They actually fit pretty well in the bottom of the suitcase and I packed around it.

I have slept with my kids at that age. I am the barrier on one side and we move a chair if there is one on the other side or will pillow that side of the bed and floor or use the bed rails.

You could always send a pool noodle or mattress down to the resort. Or buy one off of Amazon and have it waiting at the resort.

Slightly off-topic, if you're staying in a DVC room the pack and play will already be in the closet. Correct?

An air mattress or a little rollup "nap bed" really doesn't take up very much space. Toddlers can really sleep pretty much anywhere. Although based on what you say, a 2nd pack n play might be the most comfortable (and keep him contained). Perhaps plan on asking for a 2nd pack n play upon arrival and if that fails, then go for the murphy bed or sofabed....whichever works best.

For what it's worth we put the toddler aerobed in the carseat bag. My son is now almost 8 and still sleeps on it at hotels on a regular basis!!
