I have a friend flying MSP-SEA-SMF and back in April. At the time those were the only flights to/from SMF using 25000 miles. Since then, 2 non-stop flights have been have been added at the same miles cost. Does Delta charge if he wants to change to another miles flight?

I fly AA on miles and can change my flight for no fees as long as I don't change my departure or arriving airports. I can change the days or times.

He actually spend quite a bit of time on the phone with Delta and got conflicting info.

Has there been a significant schedule change? I had a trip last December and wasn't happy with our flights to FL, we were scheduled PIT-JFK-MCO arriving around 4:30pm but that was all they had for 25,000 miles. They changed flight times and our flight into JFK arrived at the same time as our connection left. I was able to change it to an 8:00am flight through Atlanta that was more miles on the schedule for free and no additional miles.

I just booked flights today for October. Got the 7:45am through Atlanta on the way down but the best I could get for the return was a 12:35pm through Memphis. The connection time is only 33 minutes in Memphis. I'm hoping there is a schedule change and I can get a later flight home. I'll be watching the schedule like a hawk.

Your firend should probably have quietly asked to change flights only and let the reservationist tell him eht bad news it will cost more and then your friend might say "never mind". A quick phone call not counting the time on hold waiting for any reservationist to become free and pick up.

I believe award changes are only $100 for award tickets. Unless there was a significant schedule change he will have to pay this fee to change flights. Award inventory must also be available on the flights he wants to switch to. If he should wait until the day of departure he can "Same Day Confirm" to a different flight for $50 and there does NOT need to be award inventory on the flight he switches to.

I will say that my buddy is one that doesn't know the right questions to ask when he calls. His return flight was moved ahead 4-5 hours so he has to leave at 7am. He said he called and they told him there would be a fee to change his flights..... I would bet he just called and asked if he could switch his flight versus calling and saying the airline changed his flight and the new time does not work for him.....

Maybe I SHOULD CALL FOR HIM and pretend I am him.... I would get some things done! :-)
