Skipping the bag check

I used to have a pair of "park" pants. They were lightweight, capri length cargo pants that had two back pockets with flaps and button closures, two regular side entry front pockets, two front pockets with flaps and button closures, and two large pockets on the side of the legs just above the knee.

They weren't the most flattering pants. But I could carry everything and skip bag check.

I have been trying to find a replacement pair, but so far, I have been unsuccessful.

try Old Navy or believe it or not the clothing area of your nearest Tractor Supply store I have many & love them not only for parks but working with my horse always need a ton of stuff out there smart girl always knows which pocket has the peppermints :rotfl:

I'm certainly different than alot of people when it comes to the bags, but I just can't imagine not having a backpack with me. Especially when it's cold outside.

The ability to dress in layers and remove my clothes throughout the day, then re-add after the sun goes down. I can carry a sunglass case, snacks, my bottle of water, my maps, camera, phone charger, my resort mugs since i left my resort with a nice full cup of coffee, etc.

If you are there for rope drop, you won't get in the park any earlier without the bag than if you had a bag, and if I am not there at rope drop, I will just leave a little earlier to off-set any delays I might have getting in the park.

Honestly, bag checks are a waste of time. If you really want to sneak something in to the park, its not hard. TDBIASWS.:thumbsup2

We are a cargo pants family, too. Hate carrying packs. Everybody has pockets, can even carry diaper bag stuff when its needed. Anything we buy, we send to the room.

If the bag is small enough, you might be able to hide it under a sweatshirt or jacket. I do this.

Otherwise, either put stuff in your pockets or go through bag check. I used to stick it all in pockets and then buy a little bag in the parks. :)

The safest place for money, credit cards, photopass cards and room keys, etc. is probably in a business card holder size "wallet"in your front pocket. Something like this can be found at Office depot or Wal Mart for a few bucks:

Here is a Samsonite one for $10, but they can be found cheaper if you don't want something hard or leather:

I agree that money is safer secured in a front pocket! I use the Vera Bradley Zip ID to hold my cc, ID, AP, room key, gift cards, and a little cash. I hate bag check lines and try to avoid them if at all possible. I've accumulated a collection of cargo shorts/capris that I use just for WDW. I've found almost all of them on ebay. I keep the Vera Bradely zip ID in a front zipped pocket with a small lip balm, my small pocket camera in a leg pocket, and my cell phone in the other leg pocket. I know exactly where everything is and love being totally hands free and not having to lug a hot backpack or crossbody bag around all day.

Here is the VB Zip ID I use for money and room keys: http://www.verabradley.com/product/...176643/c/638/sc/890/p/154781.uts?fromSearch=1 I have several and have the lanyards to match them, just in case I do want to wear them around my neck. I seldom do though. I normally just slip the Zip ID into my pocket and then zip the pocket closed for extra security. I also have several Vera Bradley wristlets that I use if I happen not to be wearing cargo shorts. The VB All in One wristlet can easily fit into a shorts pocket so you can get through security, then once past security you can either put it on your wrist or loop the wrist strap through a belt look and resnap it back onto the wristlet, and then either let it dangle or slip it back into your pocket, if you don't want to have to carry it. http://www.verabradley.com/product/...176676/c/638/sc/890/p/154832.uts?fromSearch=1 However, my favorite wristlet is one Vera Bradely discontinued. I love the VB Double ID wristlet. It's a little bigger than the All in One and Carry It All wristlets, but still small enought to squish into a pants pocket to get past security. It holds more than the other two. I can put my cell phone in the bigger right hand side zippered part, then my camera in the second smaller left hand side zippered part, and then have slots for ID, cc, room key, and a little cash. Vera Bradley discontinued it, but you can still find them on ebay and at the VB outlet. Here's a review with pictures: http://www.ohmyvera.com/2011/07/vera-bradley-double-id-wristlet.html

We always joke about attaching everything to a string and wearing it around our shoulders like the French onion-sellers from 'Allo 'Allo.

So we are travelling with myself, dh, grandma and 3 kids (5 yrs old & under) should we assign ONE adult to do the bag line while the rest of us go on through and possibly pick up a Photopass card, have a pic taken or line up for a ride ? Or is it better to ALL stick together ?

We will have a double stroller, likely two fanny packs and one backpack.

We are going Jan. 15- 25, 2013 time.

I bet that when you are going, the crowds will be light enough so that the bag check line won't take more than one or two minutes, so it's probably not worth it to split up. Even if the lines were longer, I think that you would lose more time in coordinating your reunion than you would gain by skipping the lines.

Food for thought:

On the far left facing Epcot there's a "gate" in the barrier that separates the parking lot from the entry plaza. The CMs use it all day, coming and going and not being checked by anyone. If you wander over to the bathrooms over there, you'll likely see someone go in/out of it without being checked by anyone. It's not marked "Do Not Enter" or "Cast Members Only" - it's simply a gate anyone could theoretically use.

They do this because the CM's are checked by security when they enter the nearby building.

But it's an obvious hole in their "security" and points out just how pointless and stupid bag checks are.

Maybe it's just me but bag checks are no big deal to us and yes we go to WDW every year between Christmas and New Year's. It's just part of the trip. I never remember ever waiting that long. We do know some of the less used bag checks especially in Epcot, but really it never had any impact of our trips. We always have bags since we carry layers to wear at night so even if just one of us had a bag we all still have to wait. Whatever you decide, have a great trip!!

Enjoy The Magic!!

Yeah, that's my experience, too. Even when the lines LOOK long, they seem to move pretty fast.

We never take a bag unless we really need to.

Here's what we do: DFi carries a room key, wallet, cell phone in his pocket and that's it. If we need ponchos, we just carry them in.

We have no kids and our cell phone functions as a camera so we're pretty much set.

I've worn the Vera Bradley ID case on a lanyard. I would head to the non-bag line and hold it up. I usually got a smile and a wave through the non-bag check entry. But it does slide easily in my front pocket, so it would've been simple enough to just put it into my pocket. I also bought a little watch chain so I can secure it to a belt loop when I put it in a pocket.

On my last trip, I brought this Timbuk2 wallet http://www.amazon.com/Timbuk2-Swipe...qid=1355504301&sr=8-5&keywords=timbuk2+wallet My DIL was going through bag check and the crowds were very light; so I didn't try the non-bag check with this. But it fits easily into my pocket, so if I'm solo or with my DH, I would try the same thing I did with the Vera Bradley ID case. It is just a smidge larger than the Vera Bradley ID case. For some of the rides, I shortened the strap and clipped it to my belt and then put the wallet into my front pocket. Most of the time, I just wore it cross body. It's very lightweight but has card slots, so it's a bit more organized than the Vera Bradley ID case.

I feel pretty certain that if someone "unauthorized" were to attempt to use that entrance there would be someone quickly there to challenge them.

and byw - I for one do not think that bag checks are "pointless and stupid". And it doesn't bother me in the least to wait one or two minutes to get thru the line.

This thread bothers me greatly. Bag check has been put in place to help keep us as safe as possible while we are enjoying our vacation. Posting ways to avoid this line is not only giving you a a way to avoid but could be giving someone dangerous ways to avoid the line. I personally don't mind standing in line for a few extra minutes to ensure the safety of my family. If you don't have time to stand in line, maybe you should not try to cram so much into your day.

Not really. Although it is a side effect, it is not the main reason.

I'm sure for those who work in security are aware, it is less about what people are bringing into the parks, but more about how they ACT when being searched. Something as simple as a toothbrush can be used as a weapon. So much can be sewn into the lining of clothing. Having the bag check helps to increase that initial contact with security to identify someone who is acting out of the ordinary.

Larger deliveries are likely a concern. IMO I'm sure if they didn't do checks people would be concerned more and be worried about Park safety. I"m sure things will change in the future. My mom (70 yrs old) said the other day that maybe in the future they might not allow character dining in the castle similar to what has happened to the Statute of Liberty. I found it interesting she thought of this and without any discussion prior about security. Disney too will change.
