Skipper Canteen ADR watch

I just can't see the no ADR thing lasting through the week between Christmas and New Years. If it does then so be it. But to do this at one of the busiest times of the year at a brand new restaurant is going to make things difficult.
 

And we all wait to see what the real truth will be! Remember it wasn't that long ago that Spice Road Table opened and they weren't going to take any ADR's and no dining plan or discounts with just a tapa's menu. That didn't last very long!
That's because Spice Road Table wasn't very popular. They needed to make changes in order to get people there.
 
Tried to get reservation by phone after checking online. Was told that they would begin accepting reservations on January 5.
This note from the phone rep, along with the various other things we've heard just today, is yet another example of the Carousel of Policy - and none of it from a definitive source, including the location manager.

(We won't know the real story until we get it from a bus driver.)

OP here...so after I started the thread last night I decided not to set my alarm to get up at 5am CST. As luck would have it, I woke up on my own (lol!) at 5:02CST. I decided as long as I was up, I might as well check the Disney website, and of course SC was not there. I am super excited to see that the page is up now on Disney Dining, but disappointed that we can't make ADRs. Thanks, Pete, for giving us an update! I have to say I am surprised that you are hearing that they won't be doing ADRs at all. I hope that changes. I can't wait to hear more reviews about food and service from people who have eaten there.
 
What doesn't make sense about the no ADR thing is why would they set up the restaurant's page with all of the ADR stuff there and ready to go (just not active)?

Agree. Seems like it would be set up with a calendar/hours but no check availability box. That can be deleted with one click.

But I am actually okay with the walk up and get a wait time/text to phone. Hey brings back the spontaneous part of the trip.

Glad I was there Monday and used my TiW since reports are now that they no longer will accept it.......

And now it's page on Disney site says "Dining Plans Not Accepted" which for a Disney owned restaurant is strange.

And we thought this wasn't going to be another BoG cluster :D

What TPTB may not have clued into is that their texting system doesn't work with non-American phone numbers. We're from Canada and we never receive the text when our resort room is ready. Finally a CM told us that system only works with American cell numbers. I'm sure it would be the same with the restaurant.
I'd rather have the ADR and know if/when we're going to be able to dine there.

WRT the "dining plans not accepted" I also find that strange for a Disney owned restaurant. Hopefully that's just an oversight by whoever set up the page.

The site is incorrect; they are accepting the dining plan (one table service credit). But there was a report as of yesterday that TIW is out, although they did accept it for about 72 hours.
 
In the MDE app it lets you search for availability but just comes up with nothing available. So my guess is its capable of ADR's its just not active yet.

I'm sure that's because they have a template for TS locations and they just fill in the blanks for what is offered at the given location.
Someone will need to actually go in and design a new layout for a walk up TS location

Most of the restaurants throughout WDW used to be walk-up only.
 
I think Walk-up only is the dumbest thing ever! I get all restaurants used to be walk up only but with how busy WDW has gotten in the past years, I can't imagine that people are going to be excited waiting long waits just to get into a restaurant and waste park time. I also can't see walk ups only working during extremely busy times but I guess we will see how it goes over the Christmas and New Years Eve time period.

Probably the same reason that the Coral Reef menu describes a Scampi dish as "Jumbo Shrimp, Cheddar Grits, local Corn Succotash, Andouille Sausage, and Creole Spice Emulsion." Someone messed up setting up the page.
