Skipper Canteen ADR watch

I'm sitting at Skipper Canteen having lunch right now. First, adjust your expectations in terms of the food. It's good, but expensive.

2nd, we're being told that they will NOT be offering ADR's for this location. They are going to test doing walk-up only. Could be interesting.

Also, they were taking TiW for the cast preview but have decided not to accept it moving forward, so no TiW for this location (at least for now).

Pete

Thank you, Pete.

Do you know about DDP?

Thanks Pete.
Looking forward to your review when the show returns in January. Not going until May but will do an ADR (if they let us) just in case.

I know that internally this is what CMs were told, and it may hold true for awhile, but I can't foresee this being a permanent state of affairs at the SC. I would much rather be in your shoes right now, in the MK and getting to eat in a brand new restaurant. Meanwhile, the rest of us poor suckers are stuck at home watching as the IT folks at Disney slowly get the new dining page up for the restaurant. The page is being set up for a restaurant that will take reservations.

The main reason I can't see a walk up scenario lasting is that this is not a QS restaurant, meaning those who want to eat there have already decided they want a more expensive sit down meal while in the MK, and since every other sit down meal in the MK requires a reservation, it means that we have to either play Disney's game and plan accordingly 180 days in advance by booking one of those, or else cross our fingers and pray to the Disney gods (Fab Five of course!) that we will be able to get a table at SC day of. Since we can't cancel ADRs day of without a penalty, this leads to a tricky situation, I think. A lot of people may end up in Cosmic Ray's because they couldn't get a table and everything else is booked. Those wouldn't be very happy guests, I presume.

Everything is still blanked out for me:(
Under "check availability" for reservations, the dates are still blacked out for me, but the calendar above the map has all the dates highlighted and clickable, but no times available for anything past 1/2.

Pete, how far in advance are you able to make the reservation at the podium? Just today? 10 days out? 6 months out? That will get crazy. Some people would pay good money to have someone else make a reservation for them 6 months out.

I mean if it's walk up only when we're there it's not a deal breaker for us at least. Just annoying.

Ok, here is an update. The podium will open at 10:30am - you WILL NOT be able to make reservations for later in the day. Show up when you're ready to eat. You'll be given an apps wait time and the option to receive a text message when your table is ready. The location accepts DDP (1 credit) but not TiW.

A manager said that the just realized this morning that the restaurant page on the website is set up to take reservations, and that will be removed shortly. They keep using the word 'test' when they talk about not
taking ADR's, so this may change.

My question is, why the silence from Disney? If they have put up the page online, then you think it's open. Why not just tell us what the new hoop they have for us to jump through is? Ugh!

There's *no* way I see the no ADR thing lasting. I'm guessing that very few patrons (including myself) are going to waste precious park time waiting for a table to open up at a TS restaurant. All in, with the wait plus meal time, you're looking at a 2+ hour endeavor on a good day. I just can't see people doing this when ADR's can be made at other locations.

My sister is currently also at SK. Said CM at podium says only walk ins until end of January. FWIW...

The text message wait time thing is also going to be a disaster. Odds are a lot of people will wander off to ride something or shop or anything else - and as soon as they finally board the jungle cruise get an early text that the table is ready. Logistically for the host desk, that will create a complete mess.

Frankly, this whole thing just sounds like an easy way to get park guests annoyed with Disney for that and all other reasons above.
