Skating Rink Songs

You guys are bringing back memories - Lisa Lisa, Tiffany, I remember all of those. Our rink used to play The Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show and everybody would time warp on skates. It was so much fun.

I remember breaking up with my boyfriend at the time and one night at the rink he was there and he dedicated Angel by Aerosmith to me. We got back together that night. I can't hear that song without going back all those years to the rink.

I love Rock and Roll -Joan Jett and that Mr.Roboto song.
OMG....were we at the same rink?
:P
I also remember "The Stroke" by Bill Squier being a huge favorite. :crazy2:

This just reminded me of last week when I took my 6 year old to his first skating party and he said "hey, is it like the 1970's in here?" I don't even know how he knew that.

They played Beat It and Thriller and those are ones I remember from my skating party days. Journey for the slow songs.

Another one bites the Dust by Queen !

Twilight Time. Was always a couples skate, the lights turned down low. Also, was the name of the rink that I frequented as a child. It's a bingo hall now.

Had a few others I wanted to add that I thought of last night after I posted.

Dude Looks like a lady-Aerosmith
Crazy nights-Kiss
Jesse's Girl-Rick Springfield
Dirty Laundry-Don Henley
Break my stride-Matthew Wilder (I think)

They tore down the skating rink I used to go to as child. They put a Hardee's restaurant in it's place.

OH MAN! I MISS SKATING!! THAT WAS MY LIFE! My speed skates had purple wheels! LOL

Don't Stop The Rock - Freestyle
"Freestyle's kickin' in the house tonight ~ Move your body from left to right ~ To all you freaks, don't stop the rock ~That's freestyle speakin' and you know I'm right!!"

Crazy For You - Madonna

You Dropped a Bomb On Me - The Gap Band

Push It - Salt N Pepa

Lookout Weekends - Hmmm? Not sure... maybe Debbie Deb?

I know there are tons more, but these were some of my favorites!

P.S. I think "Jump" is Van Halen, Minnie824.

"Timothy"

"Joy To The World", 3 Dog Night

"Cherokee People", (Paul Revere & Raiders, ????? tough to remember these artists)

"Baby I'm a Want You", Bread

All Monkees songs, but especially "I'm a Believer"

"Lookin' Out My Backdoor" and "Hey Tonight", Creedence Clearwater Revival

"American Woman" and "Love Grows [Where My Rosemary Goes]", The Guess Who

"Knock 3 Times On the Ceiling" and others, Tony Orlando & Dawn

"Proud Mary", Ike & Tina version

Loads of Motown for the slow skates

"Stairway to Heaven", Led Zeppelin

"Crystal Blue Persuasion" AND "Mony, Mony" (before kids created the offensive lyrics, Tommy James & The Shondells

Just to name a bunch. . .there are so many that I know I've forgotten, but I bet they now jump back into my head--like that song the Grass Roots did and I can't recall it just yet.

Yep, I was skating from the mid-60s through the mid-late 70s! I stopped going when I learned to drive and had bigger fish to fry--like Drive-In Movies!

:earseek:

Wonderful memories. . .and yeah, I actually have many of these on vinyl and I still have a turntable too!

Afternoon Delight by...Lord I don't even know--another song I detest.

Starland Vocal Band (don't ask me how I know that!)

I'm not sure if the rink we went to as kids is still there..haven't been there in YEARS. I remember being able to skate right up off the rink itself into the bathroom cuz it was tiled. I know it was hard for me as a girl to get 'situated' in a stall when I was on skates. I can't IMAGINE how difficult it was for a guy.:p

"Hanging Tough" and "Please Don't Go,Girl"--New Kids on the Block always remind me of the skating rink. Get up on the floor and do the New Kids Dance! Kinda tough to do it in skates without falling over, though. :p

That and "Every Mornin" (I think is the name) by um..Sugar Ray. The video is set in a 1980ish roller rink and always cracks me up.

I had to laugh out loud to your Don't Stop the Rock. I forgot all about that song!

Land Down Under - Men at Work

Come on Feel the Noise

Jump by Van Halen

So many more but these ones really stick out right now. :D

I read the title of this thread & the first song I thought of was:

lol My speed skates had pink AND blue wheels!

We must have went to the same rink because I know all those songs.

for 15 years I've saved a mix tape from the rink dj, on it is
Lookout Weekend
The Party Has Just Begun
I know you love me
It's Automatic
All Night
How can we be wrong
When I hear the music
Don't stop the rock
Can't stop the beat
I'll be all you ever need
and Can't get enough

Most are Freestyle, Debbie Deb and Trinere

I also remember Rock Steady and Head to Toe by Lisa Lisa as being pretty popular

We also got some old school rap like Grand Master Flash, UFO, Sugarhill Gang...songs like Roxanne Roxanne and White Lines.

There is a song called "Skateland South" by a guy named Corey Branan off his album The Hell You Say that is a great tribute to the old skating rink days.

Do kids still hang out at Rollar Rinks? I don't even know where one is...

Almost any Franky Valli and the Four Seasons song, but in particular: Let's Hang On

"Automic Dog"

"Open Arms" (for the couples skate).:D

I have so many great memories of roller skating days!

The rink where my PARENTS met back in 1955 in still in business!!

About 15 years ago the rink here had adult skating on Tuesday mornings and we would always go. My favorite song to skate to then was "We Built This City", but can't remember the group....

then there was a very special song that my Dad and I would skate to, "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn. My Dad could skate beautifully. Every time I hear that song I think of skating with him.
