Sit down or buffet for breakfast?

We generally prefer room service breakfast. It acts as a wake-up call and nothing beats hot coffee, oj and Krispy Kremes to start my day! When we want more, however, we like to eat at the buffet for breakfast. We like to wear our swimsuits and coverups so that we can head straight to the pools or beach afterwards. At the sit-down, we feel we must dress (dress is casual, but it still means taking extra time to dress and bringing more clothing which ultimately translates into more laundry!)

We always eat breakfast in the sit-down on debark day, however. In our experience, the buffet is very sparse on the final morning, while breakfast in the restaurants is still fresh and tasty!

Have a great cruise!

I know room service breakfast works for a lot of people, but the one day we did it was CC day - and we didn't end up with nearly enough food in our tummies to get us through to lunch. We'd just ordered coffee and cocoa (for the kids) and some rolls.

I can't remember what the breakfast room service menu is like - and given my families apparent propensity to eat like Hobbits on a ship ("but this is second breakfast!"), room service would be a good start for us - but next time, you'll find us eating brunch as well.

With preschoolers, we really liked Triton's - I don't think the food is significantly better, but Mom gets to eat a breakfast instead of hopping up and down.

I hear ya!! Everyone is finished and I haven't gotten to sit down yet. I think we'll try the sit down for at least 2 breakfasts.

I think we'll try the buffet the first morning. My three sons are old enough to fill their own plates, but I remember the days of popping up and down a hundred times during each meal. The menus that have been posted for the breakfast buffet are better than I thought they would be. I was expecting only pastries and juices. I like the idea of sit down on our last morning though. Hey, I like the idea of room service, too. Anyone know if they'll deliver Diet Cokes along with the coffee?

They will, but there will be a charge for soda from room service.

Oh, the next question is - Parrot Cay of BBB/Topsiders.

With Topsiders you get to sit outside (if you can find a table). I think the buffet is open much earlier. And they have Mickey Waffles (I don't know if PC does or not, we were told only Topsiders).

But we like Parrot Cay better, for one reason - the traffic pattern for the buffet is a lot easier to deal with than the layout at Topsiders. Parrot Cay has their buffet out from the wall more, there are multiple stations and plenty of room around the stations. So you can "browse" the buffet without cutting in line (of course, do be polite to others who may be making their way down the buffet in the traditional manner). We found Topsiders to be much more linear and much more crowded.

So, let me get this straight. Can you place a door knocker with a room service order out the night before and it will be delivered like a regular hotel or do you have to get up early to order? I like the idea of having early morning coffee and juices delivered and then going to breakfast a little later.

Notes,

You are right...they have door hangers (generally located in the vanity drawer.) The menu offers a variety of juices, coffee, tea, milk, pastry, donuts, cereal and fruit. It gives you a range of delivery times. They collect the hangers overnight and then call your stateroom about five minutes before delivery. Like I said before, it is a great wake-up call for our family, especially on CC day or when we have early excusions booked! Enjoy.

Glad to see this because we were wondering also about what to do. Not much of a bagel person, but the buffet sounds more like a full breakfast. Another question, or two, on your last day, what sort of breakfast is available? And do they throw you off the ship at 9am?

Last day you have a choice of going to the buffet anytime you want before they close which I THINK is 8:30. Or you can go to your assigned dining room at the assigned time for sit down breakfast. Your assigned dining room for the final breakfast is the same dining room you were assigned to eat dinner in the night before. If you were early seating, your final breakfast is at 6:45 am, late seating breakfast if at 8 am.
Both the buffet and dining room have fewer offerings on the final day just because THEY DO WANT YOU OFF THE SHIP by 9 am.

They had plenty of hot food, but no made to order omlets at the buffet the last day, and no eggs benedict in the dining room.

Just our 2 cents worth: The kids prefer the buffet but we like the sit down breakfasts. Its nice to be waited on.

Sit down or buffet for breakfast?
What do you mean or? This is a cruise, think and.

Seriously, though, our "standard" breakfast option has been this:
My wife and I get up at about the same time, she jumps in the shower, I throw on some clothes and head up to the buffet. I fill up a tray with enough food for both of us, and take it back down to the room. Then, we both eat, either on the table or on the veranda, then finish getting ready, and head out for the day.

I personally find that the much larger selection of the buffet over room service more than makes up for the fact that I have to take 5 minutes to get it for myself.

This will likely be adjusted somewhat for our next cruise, as we will have a 2 year old with us, but we will probably do something similar.

Now that's a great idea. I'd forgotten about the balcony. I would love to have breakfast outside, yet privately. Thanks.

We went to the buffet one morning at PC and I didn't see any Mickey waffles. I asked a CM and standing next to her happened to be a head server and he had someone go up and bring some down for my DS. He was my hero! :)

cristit14 posted that they had to "go up" to get Mickey waffles and I wondered if that would be the buffet. Maybe the buffet had a better selection than the sit downs if they had to go there to get requests.

Parrot Cay on deck 3 didn't have Mickey waffles; Topsiders on deck 9 did have them. So "up to" Topsiders. :)

although sit down breakfast is fun... we really enjoyed topsidders in the morning especially with kids. There is everything from cereal, eggs, toast, smoked salmom,donuts,...enjoy
