Sister Wives

People around the web have been speculating the divorce and marriage to Robyn may be related to getting custody of Robyn's oldest three children from her previous marriage. Right now there has been no indication from the Browns as to the real reason for it.

I understand that they are putting themselves out there, and are setting themselves up for harsh and negative comments, but some of these comments that I have been reading are downright nasty. I'm not saying I like Robyn, but I don't think it's right to make fun of a way someone speaks (especially because of an accent or dialect), or their intelligence, or how they pronounce their kid's names...

P.S. I'm not trying to 'attack' or single out any of the people that I quoted above, but these are just a few of the quotes that I have noticed.

You answered your own question.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned somewhere but I thought the show last Sunday about the whole courtship with Robin; with Kody and the other wives watching was quite tacky.

I was wondering if they did that episode on Robyn as a lead-in to the new marriage.

It was a hard episode to watch. Yet I watched. :rotfl2:

I had no idea the dropped middle T was a Utah dialect. If you read through the thread you'll see that was pointed out to me after I brought it up. I still find it hard to listen to, as two of my own kids were in speech therapy for several years and one of the things they worked on was pronunciation of that middle T.

If I had been aware of that being a common local dialect, I would not have mentioned it.

of course then there's the cynical side of me that thinks "meri wants to go back to college, if meri divorces kody then his income/assets don't count towards her for financial aid so if he "takes" all their assets in the divorce then meri likely qualifies for every form of need based aid that's available";)

if her income from TLC is close to what has been rumored, I doubt that she will qualify for aid.
Anyone know if their divorce will impact her mortgage? Wasn't she the one that had the most problems trying to close? I thought that Kody was in her mortgage since he was legally married to her

Has any of this been discussed on the show? I realize some things are more private than others, but if you're putting your "lives" out there, ostensibly for the purpose of educating about and normalizing your lifestyle, switching around wives for whatever the advantage may be, if it's a common practise in polygamy, should have made it past the cutting room floor. And wouldn't this be much more "real and relevant" as a story-line than the dumb stuff they do choose to show? There's really nothing left for us to see of the Browns anymore unless they add some "reality" back into their reality show.

The preview clip last week was Mari telling them that she has a meeting with a lawyer and it will impact the family.

On the tell all program tonight, it was interesting to watch Janelle's reaction to the divorce questions, her facial expressions (as well as Christine's) when Robin was talking about the divorce.

Is there a reason to believe that Robyn's kids bio-dad will give up his rights? Wouldn't you check into that before you would go through with the divorce/remarriage?

I was wondering the same thing?! How common is it that bio-dad's give up their rights? Her kids have been "visiting relatives" a few times on the show and it is assumed they were with their dad. I find the whole divorce/marriage thing a bit odd.

It's hard not to think that Meri is on her way out of the marriage. I know she seems to be doing this for all the right reasons, but it just makes me think it would now be that much easier for her to slip out of this whole situation and go away quietly. I haven't watched the "tell-all" episode yet, but Janelle looked seriously upset / mad when Meri was telling them of the divorce. I don't think it is very common for the bio-dad to give up his rights. I would think they would have researched this much more than what is shown on TV.

I haven't kept up with the Browns, but from the little I've read Robyn's ex husband is still very involved with the kids and sees them regularly. He sure doesn't sound like someone that is willing to sign away his rights to his children.

Sounds like an excuse to marry the younger prettier "wife".

Or maybe Meri is crazy like a fox and has an exit strategy.

And as for Christine & Janelle - isn't this a 5-way relationship? Shouldn't they have been as much a part of the decision making as the other 3?

From what I've read in addition to seeing the finale, it may have been for some sort of insurance benefits for Robyn's kids?

It should be. But recently it seems like the wives dont even communicate with eachother at all. At the beginning the premise of the show seems to be how a polygamist family co habitates and functions as one big unit. Now, Kody has 4 separate families.

I really don't think Robin ex is just going to walk away from his kids. It seems like on the show the kids are at there dads.

I really feel Janelle is already mentally gone from the group. Just time till she physical leaves.

I don't know if the seeming lack of communication is true, or just played up for the cameras. When I look at their twitter pages, they seem much happier, in reasonably close communication. The overall tone on twitter is they are all pretty OK with Meri's decision, and the family goes on just fine. No real changes to their life situation.
Crazy show. It's a train wreck, and yet...I admit...I watch.
