Sister Wives

New clip posted in US Magazine. Christine says they were struggling already in Vegas and Robyn says she's lying. Because apparently Robyn missed the episode of their show where Christine and Kody take their marriage counselor on vacation with them. Never mind how ridiculous it is that Robyn would try to claim she knows more about Christine's relationship than Christine. Toss in a side of Kody trying to throw some kids under the bus and it's a fascinating clip.

I doubt Christine was ever very happy and content, right from the get-go. I can see though, from Robyn’s point of view, and certainly from feedback she would have gotten from Kody (totally obtuse), how she might think that. In those days it’s very likely Christine was resigned to the situation, very much consumed with the day-to-day of raising a whole bunch of kids, and way less open about her struggles. Christine was also always extremely jealous of Robyn and Robyn would have been the last person she confided in.

It's interesting that in their discussion of the kids that Kody and Robyn keep saying the kids have only gotten one side of the story (through Christine). Meanwhile it's pretty clear Robyn has only gotten one side of the story (through Kody).

I doubt that in those earlier years when Christine was in the throes of raising all those kids she even imagined she would ever be able to leave. She didn't have the financial means, and probably not the emotional energy after spending long days working and taking care of kids.

But I agree, no chance she was ever going to confide on Robyn. She was never happy with the situation. I'm glad the show has given her the means to leave.

Their financial situation is still mystifying. Have we ever seen Christine earn an income? If the house was mortgaged, it’s unlikely that the proceeds would provide a huge windfall to live off indefinitely.

She was fortunate to sell in a very hot market so I think she did make a nice profit. I also think she and Meri have done well in their MLM gigs pretty much based on their show presence.

1.) She mentioned working evenings when kids were young. Not sure where.
2.) She has her own cooking show on TLC right now.
3.) she makes a good income in her MLM business.

I thought Lularoe wasn't a thing anymore. Are people still being recruited for it?

This would be interesting. Every time it showed them cooking on Sister Wives, it was always just big, nasty-looking vats of carby-junk; which I presume is what you feed a family with 18 kids.

ETA: I just googled it. It's apparently a "digital" show, which I assume means it's not part of TLC's broadcast lineup. Here's one of the recipes. It's not exactly haute cuisine. I'm guessing viewers are there hoping to have some interesting family dirt dished, not so much for the actual food.

That’s typical for Mormon culture. Huge batches of food with low cost ingredients meant to feed an army. I suspect it’s where I got my distaste for potlucks.

I guess I can understand that part of it. But I think it's kind of hilarious to have a "cooking show" where she's showcasing her talents making things with packaged gravy mix and pre-fab pie crusts.

Meri sells Lularoe and posts on Instagram about going on all sorts of retreats with the company. I think Mykelti is also selling it.

I mean they showed Christine and Kody struggling in Vegas. A large chunk of the storyline for a while was the counseling, so for anyone to say they weren't struggling is VERY odd. The show portrayed that part pretty clearly.

I agree. I call that “throw something together” cooking and I’m not above it on occasion (though casseroles and goulash are no gos here) but if I’m watching a cooking show I want to see technique and hear explanations of *why* we’re doing something. Admittedly I’m a bit of a snob as my dad was a chef (talk about living in opposing worlds, lol) and my oldest daughter is a Baker/Pastry Chef.

i remember back to when they were trying to recruit me and what you speak of is true (but lots of good desserts!). at least you got meat at those-trying having tables and tables of nothing but overcooked veggies, tortilla chips and :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: gluten loafs (i will take a mormon potluck over an sda in a heartbeat).

She and Janelle heavily promote another MLM, Plexus, which is “nutrition” similar to Herballife.

Um, Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee

Gluten loaves. I completely forgot about those, my mind must have blocked it to spare me. 🤣 I’m convinced my mom never had a fresh vegetable until I made them for her.

I used to work at a sda hospital. I used to love , love the skallops. I can’t even find them to buy anymore.

Just think how sad it would be if they didn’t have the show. Christine would be trapped, financially.
