Sister Wives

Just finished up most recent episode. I can't believe how Robyn was whining to Meri. Why can't Christine just move out to Coyote Pass with us even if she's not with Cody? Yes because we all want to live next door to our ex-husband. Christine doesn't want this lifestyle anymore!!!!

On a side note, I know there is a ton of backlash at Meri for staying with Cody even though they don't seem to have a traditional romantic relationship. I guess I could understand her wanting to stay. I know a ton of older couples who no longer have intimacy. Even separate bedrooms. I am really not sure their relationship is any different. I hope they get to a better point to be able to hang out just them two. Granted these people I know are much older then Cody and Meri.

Meri is damaged goods in Kody's eyes after the catfishing episode. He will never accept her in a romantic fashion again, not even just holding hands. I could tell at the time he was never letting her back into good graces. He has come right out and said she should leave. I think that makes it a bit different from what you describe.

If she wants to settle for that, then whatever. But for her to get so angry that Christine doesn't want to do the same is hard to watch.

As I suspected, Ysabel's surgery was the turning point for Christine leaving. Couldn't respect him for not being there, and also realized she didn't need him.

I try to remember these are real people with real feelings. I don’t blame the other wives for being upset. Christine entered a “covenant” with all of them not just Kody. Janelle’s first reaction was that she might not ever see Truly again. For her at least Truly is also her child. I realize the whole arrangement has gone to hell in a hand basket and everyone played their part in that but they’ve been a family, good or bad for over thirty years. They’re allowed to have feelings about it. And not for nothing, Christine is no saint. She’s absolutely entitled to do what is right for her and the surgery thing would have been my final straw as well but she contributed to the downfall of her marriage with her insane jealousy. She went into the whole thing with eyes wide open. They all did.

So good to hear Christine being honest about what we were all thinking.
You can tell she is pausing to try and not tear up talking about the impact of the missy father on her daughter.

IMO, the writing was on the wall when Robyn joined the family. We didn’t see the beginning with Meri and Janelle but Christine and Kody have both said that he never felt that romantic falling in love with Christine. Good grief, he took Robyn on a week long honeymoon. No one else got that. He pressured Meri to divorce him so that he could marry Robyn. The catfishing gave him the excuse he needed to ditch Meri. Only she knows why she stays- I would guess it’s for show money.

Covid gave him cover to ignore all the rest of his wives and his children while living full time with Robyn.

“Insane jealousy”???? Her husband didn’t just take a new wife in a “covenant” that they all agreed to. He fawned over this new wife in a way that he never did the others. The needs of Robyn and her kids suddenly superseded the needs of everyone else.

I don’t remember Kody pressuring Meri to divorce. They presented that as Meri’s idea.

Yes, insane jealousy. Are we rewriting history here? Robyn and her kids supersede everyone else *now* but in the beginning they all worked hard to build a balance, except Christine. Absolutely Kody was infatuated with his new wife, no doubt. However, he was still “making the rounds” at each house, going on dates and trips with each wife and at least the way it was presented spent time with all the kids. I bet if you went back in this thread to that time you could find us all discussing it. As far as Robyn getting the fancy wedding and honeymoon I’ve always got the impression the others never knew they could ask for that. There also wasn’t TLC footing the bill.🤷🏻‍♀️

Look, I’m not saying Kody isn’t a complete jerk with an over inflated ego and superiority complex. I can tell you coming from the Mormon culture that the male is the head of the home and he is deferred to. (Hell, it expands to distant family. I’ve had teenage, male cousins try to tell me how to behave.) I’m not saying it’s right, I’m saying they all agreed to that. It takes two to destroy a marriage and they both had a hand in that. I just feel the other wives were entitled to a conversation rather than being blindsided by a “family announcement.” Other than that, good for Christine and I mean that sincerely. I hope the others get or have gotten a clue too.

Thanks for your insight, wenrob.

I watched it early online on Discovery+ and have some observations.
1) About Kody: I don't care how much you don't want to be around Christine. That's no excuse to not see Truely. Antagonistic divorced parents do it all the time (and we have all been saying that for several pages of this thread).
2) When Christine was talking about not being a part of the religion anymore, she said "neither of us are part of that religion". Was she talking about her and Kody or her and her mom?
3) It is soooo obvious that Kody was kicked to the curb just like he kicked Meri to the curb but he doesn't see the difference.
4) That family meeting was just painful to watch and it looks like it will explode next week.

“The sacrifices I made to love you “

What an awful thing to say.
If you read their book he has always said he wasn’t attracted to Christine. He’s treated her so bad.

And there is no excuse not to spend time with Truely! They have a huge house!

I don't know how I'll make it through next Sundays episode....Kody is so VILE towards Christine, with Meri and Sobbin Robyn following after him like the pathetic lap dogs they are. I used to feel badly for Meri, now I just find her a pathetic, shrill and spineless.

If Robin was any kind of mom to the other wives' children, she would have made a way for Truely to have sleepovers at her mansion, regardless of Kody.

Robin could have made the arrangements and picked Truely up and dropped her off at Christine's, if she ever wanted to.

She is as much of the problem as anyone.

But instead she screams that no one accepted her kids...

I always had lots of mixed feelings about Christine. Her fake little girl voice and her jealousy drove me nuts. Even recently as they discussed moving and she was hell bent on everyone moving back to Utah. Her desire to move a 20 something member family to follow her adult kids around. Drove me insane. But Kody's treatment of wide swaths of the family during Covid and specifically his behavior around Ysabel's surgery put me fully on team Christine. She stood up for her kid when she needed her most. Go Christine. Get the heck out of there.

But they moved to Arizona just for Robyn’s son. At least in Utah many of them have extended family.

Oh, I find that absurd as well. That hasn't been confirmed, but I do believe that report and it's just despicable. Get so upset when I think about those kids who were in high school and uprooted for what appears to be a decision to support one of 18 kids.

If it's true that he moved everyone to Arizona for Robyn's son, that sounds like it could be the straw that broke the camel's back for Christine. ON TOP of everything else that has already been happening in their relationship, she decided enough was enough, and I'm happy for her.

Ugh, I just can't take it. Meri is pathetic and needy, and their collective efforts during that meeting to gaslight Christine really pissed me off. I wish Janelle would've spoken up more, but I'm glad at how Christine was holding up on her own. She's not letting them break her down because her decision is made. Odds are, Kody also notices how unbothered she is and that's most likely why he ends up having a conniption in the next episode.

And Robyn.....I just don't have anything to say about her. I'm indifferent. She knows exactly what it is and how Kody has been, but she likes to play dumb. She's an uninteresting, fake, "damsel in distress".

They're not even friends though. She has zero relationship with Cody. She stays for herself. She NEEDS to be a victim, always. She can't be "poor Meri" if she leaves the family. If she really was committed to the Family she'd demand better treatment from Cody as a family member even if he sees her as an exwife. He doesn't even acknowledge her half the time. But why demand respect when that would change Poor Meri? Poor Meri and Sobbin Robin are quite the match :P

I must have missed this - why did they move for her son?

As for Merri, I feel bad that’s she’s in denial about her future with Kody. I think he’s made it abundantly clear that there will never be a relationship, so I hope she’s able to move on and find some love in her life.

:thumbsup2 Good comment. In the early days of the series, and the early days of the family in general (based on their book), Meri was very much the "head wife", even for a long while after Robyn married-in. She apparently found and approved Robyn for Kody's "consideration" and they were very close in a mentorship-type dynamic. Things didn't really start to shift until Robyn's first pregnancy, at which time both Meri and Christine (for various reasons) went into emotional tail-spins.

Right? I totally don't understand this part. When the (now) adult siblings were kids, we saw tons of footage of them staying/sleeping basically inter-changeably back-and-forth between the 3 moms' houses. Why on earth can't Truely do the same at Robyn's and share a room with Ariella, like any normal siblings (or even step-siblings) would? Kody's comments about not having a bedroom for her is ridiculous.

I’m not sure how literal she was being, but Christine did say she wanted Truely to have a room of her own at Robyn’s.
