Sister Wives, anyone???

Caught up on the show this morning and I realized how very much I dislike Robin. Besides the whole crying at the drop of a hat thing and the giggling, she just seemed so duplicitous when Kody made his big announcement about choosing the wedding dress. She wasn't sorry that she had upset the other wives but she was upset that Kody had ratted her out. She just seems like she's going to turn out to be a bit of a backstabber.

I agree completely! She seems like a "boat rocker" to me!

I caught up today too, and I have to say that I got the same impression. I have nothing to really base this on except gut reaction, but I get the feeling that maybe Meri was a love match, Christina and Janelle weren't, and now Robyn might be another love match and that's why there seems to be this *******. Did they ever mention why they put Robyn in a whole other house rather than adding a wing to the existing house? I'd think it would be cheaper to do that. I can't help but think that having Robyn in her own house wouldn't be hindering that bond between her and the other wives.

Overall, I'm glad this family opened their lives to us. They had to know that it would open up such a can of worms for them to do so.

This family has no resemblance to any Mormon families I know. This is a group removed from the current LDS church. Do you have problems with other religions, like Baptists or Presbyterians? I watched the show, and I think it is weird. It isn't a way I would ever live or hope my children would live. But I kind of feel like the government has bigger problems to deal with than this. At least I hope they do.....national security, the economy.....
No kidding!! Well said!

If I was faced with Kody in my bed every 4th night.......blech. Maybe that's why the women were okay with an extra wife....spaces out the ......
:lmao:I think we have the same sense of humor!
Because it is part of their belief system. Polygamy is not just to have multiple wives for the sake of having them. They believe that the larger the family in life, the better they are in heaven. Something along those lines.
Interesting. I did not know this. OK, so what about a woman having several husbands? I need to start my wish list :rotfl:

I propose for the next new TLC show, that Kody date Octomom. The show could could be "29 Kids and Courting"

Well maybe this will be OctoMom's way to get out of debt!

I think Janelle or Christine mentioned that they are looking for a new bigger house so that they can all live together under one roof.

I agree with one of the PP who said that they didn't like Robyn. She does seem like a trouble maker and I don't think that she is sorry about it either!

From what I've read, they are strapped financially and probably don't have the funds (or credit since declaring bankruptcy in 2005) to add on to the house right now.

My opinion is Robyn got the special treatment during the courtin'. Kody drove 4 (or 5) hours to spend every other weekend with her. The wives didn't go with him much during that time (if at all), so there's Robyn, falling in love with a man who is acting single and lavishing all this attention on her.

How much bonding could she do with the other wives when she spent most of her time with Kody?

I agree that Robyn living separate is not helping her to bond with them.

One of the shows centered around all the wives moving Robyn to their area. Kody bought/rented her a house about 1/2 mile away from their common home. They mentioned eventually to move into one big house, but for now she's the lucky one with a private residence!

Also, when he was first courting her, she mentioned that she divorced her first husband because he did not want to bring other wives into the marriage and that is specifically what she wanted :confused3 So their marriage crumbled.

:

The only things I know about polygamy is what I learned from Big Love. But from that I gained that having multiple wives enhances your place in heaven. Marriages are sealed for all eternity and 3 wives is a great position to be in, but 7 wives is the ultimate. So 3 or 7 seem to be the magic numbers, at least on a serialized HBO drama.

I did not realize that Robin in her own house was going to stay after the wedding. I thought it wasn't proper to have her live with the family before the wedding. I didn't realize she and her 2 kids stayed there after the ceremony.

In the first episode it showed a layout of the house, Janelle has one whole side and Meri has the upper and Christine has the lower part of the other side. Why does Janelle get a whole side.. couldn't they put Robyn in the basement of Janelle's side? Maybe they'd have to add in a little kitchen area, but would be cheaper than shopping for a bigger house. :confused3

Top law enforcement authorities in Utah are meeting Tuesday to determine whether to file felony polygamy charges against Sister Wives' star Kody Brown and his four wives, RadarOnline.com has learned.

A spokesperson for the Utah County Attorney's Office told RadarOnline.com: "We can confirm that a meeting is set for today between the Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman and the Utah Attorney General. We can provide no other details."

As RadarOnline.com has previously reported, Brown - whose marriage to his fourth wife was featured on Sunday's season finale of the brand new TLC reality show - has been under investigation for the past several weeks.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman confirmed to RadarOnline.com on October 6 that Lehi Police turned over the Brown case to them earlier that week. At that time, Buhman said authorities were deciding if they would press charges.

The Big Love style case has grabbed the headlines after the TLC reality family’s unusual arrangement came into the spotlight.

Brown claims he is only legally married to only one of his four wives.

Sister Wives has been a surprise hit for TLC, and Brown has publicly defended his ‘plural style’ union despite the current investigation into his family.

“We’re not felons, we’re family,” he told plainSpeak, a newsmagazine published by Northwest College students.

Polygamy has been outlawed in Utah since the 19th century and carries a potential five year jail sentence if convicted.

Kody’s four partners are Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robin. They all live in Lehi, Utah with 13 children, all fathered by Brown.

uh oh ...

Brown claims he is only legally married to only one of his four wives.

But as someone pointed out upthread, Utah recognizes common law marriages. And you enter into a common law marriage by calling someone your husband or your wife (among other things). So BK's defense is a little shaky, IMHO.

My opinion (which means absolutely nothing, as I have no say in the matter......)

I think that's a damn shame. This is not a case of those children being forced into this, marrying men old enough to be their grandfathers. On a strange scale of normalcy - THEY were very normal (and loving, and kind....kids seemed adjusted and responsible)

With all the sicko polygamists in the area (as per shows like Dateline and 20/20) why are they bothering these people??

What a waste of time.

Then WHY in the dadgum heck does HE drive a LEXUS???

She'd better watch it. It will be 17 to one ( or a couple more if you count her kids). You get those wives ticked off and they'll take down both Kody and Robyn.:rotfl:

They could put her in an outhouse. Isn't that where those kind of stirrers belong?

If I counted correctly, probably because Janelle has 6 children. ;)

Between the 3 wives they have 13 kids right. Meri only has 1, that leaves 6 each for the other 2. Not sure why only one of them has an entire half of the house.

I would love to know if her ex is related to any of the FLDS jessops. I went to a work conference in Salt Lake (it was for crime victim rights) and Carolyn Jessop spoke. She is the one who wrote Escape and was married for 16 years to a man much older than herself. She was very lovely and kind and took time to speak with everyone that wanted to meet her. That said, she had a sadness in her eyes that was almost tangible. Her boyfriend/partner was with her and you could tell he just adored her. It was a pleasure to meet her but I will NEVER forget her eyes. A very brave woman!

I know/knew nothing about Polygamy, so that is why watching this show is so interesting to me. BUT...I supposed some MAN made up these rules ;) Unless I can find 3 Prince Charmings, 1 husband will have to do :rolleyes1

If I remember right from the house tour they gave, Janelle's side of the house has the exercise room in it. It takes up a whole room!

A few of you have mentioned books that you've read on the subject. How many more of us have books to recommend? I've read this one: http://www.amazon.com/Stolen-Innoce...18/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1287578898&sr=8-13

It's called Stolen Innocence and is fascinating reading. This girl was part of the Warren Jeffs cult and was married off to her cousin at the age of 14. It's a great book. Although Sister Wives tries to show us the side of polygamy that is consensual, there's another side to it that these books try to address. I'd like to add some to my reading list!

Yeah, that man would be Joseph Smith.
