Sistah Twistah - A January Dining Review- Updated- 6/25 - COMPLETE!!!

I was tempted to buy the Coca Cola cookbook they were selling but figured I'd never use it.

A Coca-Cola cookbook? Really? Had no idea it could be used in recipes. Not that I drink much of the stuff anyway.

Les Halles was on our list.

Mine too. I do love me some sweets. As evidenced in the below picture from last year's trip to Copenhagen. This is at Tivoli, an amusement park. Gotta love me a whole lot of sugar.

I love how big the cotton candy is. Never had one quite so big. Fluffy, sugary goodness.

Me want...

But how to choose??????????????????????????????????????

She decided on the Brioche Chocolat.

Umm, where's the chocolate???? Seriously disappointing.

Well at least you enjoyed your mini meal.

I am really enjoying your reviews so far and I am learning a ton (never heard of soup nuts before.... as a foodie, that annoys me! I thought I knew everything!).

We totally missed Club Cool on our last trip. That is not happening again. I enjoy trying sodas from other countries. The best soda of my life was this mango soda I had on a backstage tour of the BBC studios in my early 20s. I have never found one as good since.

That roulé lard et fromage looks much better than I imagined it would. Mmmm. That may have to happen. I very much want to try the brioche ice cream sandwiches. I like chocolate, but it is never ever my first choice for dessert/sweets. I like ice cream better than anything in the world.

First off- correcting a mistake- Shira's favorites at Club Cool were the pineapple and the raspberry, not the melon and raspberry. Oops! Sorry Shira!
(I'm starting a petition to just get her to join the DIS and correct any of my goofs herself :D )

We ended up getting one of these free from a CM on our honeymoon, and I loved it! We don't do the DDP, so I basically never get QS desserts, but I really enjoyed the chocolate cake :P It seems kind of boring, but it's not!

Yay!! I love this place - the melon soda is really good, but I think my favorite is the Inca Cola which to me tastes like bubble gum :P

I did not know you could get lobster bisque at Les Halles - this is happening on my next trip :) We did breakfast here last time, but I may push for dinner or a savory snack. I got the bisque at Chefs de France and loved it - and I'd assume it's similar here, too. Yay!
YES! The chocolate cake is awesome! Free chocolate cake is even better!!
The Inca Cola actually says something about tasting like bubble gum :) That's probably why I didn't try it...
And I've never been to Chefs de France but you should definitely try the bisque at Les Halles next time you're there! And let us know if it's the same!! :-)

I still haven't been to Le's Halles and I'm determined to try it on my next trip! I'm already planning for the Hama me cheese croissant...

As for Club Cool, my husband actually LIKES Beverly!
Oh, yes! You gotta go there! It's just so hard to choose!!!
And your husband has interesting tastes... :P (But hey, I hate beer. That's considered weird.)

:love:COME TO MOMMA! :worship:
YES!!!

I CAN'T WAIT for your Biergarten review! We're eating there next month for the first time.

Lol.. basically! I usually give it "the French bakery" and maybe "Les Halles".

Yes! Loved this. We had it in our room though so we warmed it up - definitely awesome when it's warm.

There is nowhere near enough seating in there. :sad2: There are lots of cute tables outside but I wish the inside was larger.
Biergarten will hopefully be up in the next couple of days :)
By us it's basically "The French Place" :upsidedow And you were smart to warm it up!
In terms of seating it really is very small compared to other QS places right? (Still worth it!)

First of all, I have an awesome chicken recipe that uses Coke ("recipe" meaning two ingredients + chicken) so the concept isn't new to me. But the cookbook used all kinds of ingredients that would be hard to find here so I decided not to take it.
I LOVE your picture!!!! I haven't had cotton candy in years but this makes me want to find some! Yummy. Sugar
Are you on the dining plan in May? (May, right?) If you are, save up your snack credits for this place and try everything! If you're not on the plan, try everything anyway! LOL :teeth:

I am really enjoying your reviews so far and I am learning a ton (never heard of soup nuts before.... as a foodie, that annoys me! I thought I knew everything!).
Thank you so much for being here! :flower3: I was serious about sending you some if you'd like! We have mini packages and I can mail one to you! :tilt:

Also- nice new profile pic
Thank you! One of the most magical moments of my trip!!!!!

Wait, so you've never been to Club Cool? I thought that was just me :D It's amazing how many things I just seem to ignore when walking through the parks. I need to make a checklist next time.
Mango soda sounds yummy!!
OMG, if Shira had known they have brioche ice cream sandwiches she would have taken one for sure!! I'm more of a chocolate girl. Unless it's Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I've been known to finish off entire pints on my own :littleangel:

It's not something I get often, only once in a while at festivals and the like. Hard to resist sugar on a stick and it's so fun too.
I actually am not on the dining plan. I didn't want my choices to be based on it. I am planning on running the numbers come April to see if it was worth it. My TA told me I can add it up to a week before.

The brioche ice cream sandwich has been on my list for a while. But it is not offered at Les Halles. They are at the French Pavilion ice cream place, L'Artisan des Glaces.

I am loving this food review ! Love your sense of humor ! And the pictures are great !

Loving your reviews so far! Excellent pics and sense of humour. You should do this kind of thing professionally so you can make some $ to go back to WDW. Maybe we are witnessing a new online 'blog baby' in the making :-)

Great report so far!! Be Our Guest really does have some amazing lunch choices. I got the turkey sandwich and loved it.

Chicken noodle soup - I know some places don't add the noodles until later b/c they get too soggy. Crackers - I don't eat them in my soup - too mushy.

I love club cool. I'm not a soda drinker, but I learned about it from the DIS so I had to try it. My favorite was by far the Mango from Thailand. That's the green one, right? Whatever one I loved - it was green.

Can't wait to read more! We will be there in Mid May and I can't wait!

As for your flight....UG. I have 2 1/2 hours and it's torture to me.

Ahhh, sugar on a stick... The only thing more perfect than that to me would be steak on a stick. (Luckily we have that here!) Or sushi on a stick :cloud9:
And I get why you wouldn't want the DDP even though I'm a big fan. But it's all psychological (and it works on me! :D )
You've gotta try the brioche ice cream sandwich! (Oh no, another French place with a complicated French name!)

Thank you all so much for joining!!! I love knowing people are actually reading this stuff! :-)
And @samsteele , that could be so awesome! (I've already started saving for my next trip!) I have no clue about blogging and I always doubt anyone would enjoy reading anything I write (even on Facebook..) but you guys have proved me wrong. So thank you!! :flower3:

Y'know, I'm not a big turkey fan but that BOG sandwich actually looked good! Maybe "next time" :P
Wait, was there a mango flavor at club cool?? Did I miss that?? Or maybe that was just the melon flavor? :scratchin
Oh, and I learned my soup lesson. No noodles next time ;)

Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie

Or Les Halles for short.
Or "That French Place at Epcot" for when we're old and can't remember names anymore.

Haha! That's me! Must be getting old! You seriously crack me up! :rotfl2:I smile through your whole report!

I know I've said this before, but Oh. My. God.
One of the most delicious things I had on our trip was that lobster bisque. I am literally in near-drooling stage right now.
It was creamy and salty (not too salty) and cheesy and I don't think it tasted anything like the lobster I remember. But it was SO GOOD.

I so want to get the lobster bisque on our next trip, but it probably has flour in it, and I'm gluten intolerant. Makes my muscle & joint pain from an auto-immune disease so much worse. It sounds like it might be worth getting sick over though! ;) So far, the only thing that's been worth it to me are Philadelphia soft pretzels. They're like crack to me!

Brioche Chocolat - $3.5
"Chocolate Chips Brioche"

It was a decent size but as you can see, there was barely a hint of chocolate in there.

I thought I was going blind, looking for the chocolate chips. Glad you clarified that it isn't my eyes!

Family of 4 travelling from the UK at the end of July for 2 weeks :D cannot wait!!
I'm so happy for you!!!! You've got a pretty long flight too, right? 2 weeks, OMG!!!!
Haha! That's me! Must be getting old! You seriously crack me up! :rotfl2:I smile through your whole report!
Awww you just made my day, thank you!! :goodvibes
I think after this report there's no way I won't remember "Les Halles" but I'll still refer to it as "that French place" :D

Oh no :sad1: you need to have someone else get it and only let you taste one bite. I've never had Philadelphia soft pretzels before. Is that just the name or are they actually from Philly? :)

LOL! I seem to remember there was some form of chocolate in there, but I guess not enough to make it into the picture. But if you look at the picture close enough, you can see a little brownish spot in the middle-left part of the brioche. That must be leftover chocolate chip residue ::yes::

:tigger::simba::stitch:9 hour flight. Am sure when I was (a lot) younger it was a 12 hour flight!!! It's not too bad...planning 4 days at Universal/IOA and the rest at DISNEY!!!! 140 days and counting. So so so so excited :)

The History Behind the Philadelphia Soft Pretzel
The history of the Philadelphia's favorite on-the-go snack.

By Julie Davis

Philadelphia Expert
"Updated May 30, 2015.
Like its culinary kin the cheesesteak and water ice (excuse us, "wudder ice"), the soft pretzel is synonymous with the City of Brotherly Love. But how, exactly, did this twisted treat achieve the status of Philly's favorite on-the-go snack? Where did the soft pretzel originate? The answer, in short: right here in Pennsylvania.

However, to really get the full scope of the soft pretzel's origins, we have to travel all the way back to 610 A.D. It was around this time that, according to some accounts, an Italian monk treated well-behaved young church-goers with pretiolas ("little rewards" in Latin). These edible bribes were shaped to resemble a person with his arms crossed in prayer; the three resulting holes represented the Holy Trinity, notes the Philadelphia Encyclopedia. By the 15th century, the pretiola had become a staple street food in parts of Europe, becoming known as bretzels in Germany and Austria. It's also worth noting that these early pretzels had a chewy consistency, like the soft pretzels we know and love today; hard pretzels are a relatively modern invention.

This brings us to the 18th century, when German immigrants—the Pennsylvania Dutch—had settled in Lancaster, Pa., bringing with them their love of bretzels. A smattering of pretzel bakeries sprouted in Dutch Country around this time, but it wasn't until 1861 that the first commercial pretzel bakery, the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, was established. Founded by bread baker Julius Sturgis in the Lancaster County town of Lilitz, Pa., the bakery, which is still in operation today, accredits a hobo for the bakery's soft pretzel recipe. The unsubstantiated story recounts a night when Sturgis encountered a homeless man looking for work at Sturgis' then-bread bakery.
Sturgis didn't have work to offer, so the generous baker invited the man to join his family for dinner instead. To thank Sturgis, the penniless guest shared a recipe for soft pretzels, which according to tale, Sturgis promptly put into production.

It wasn't long before pretzels gained a foothold in Philadelphia, and other savvy entrepreneurs followed suit to establish their own pretzel bakeries throughout the region.

In fact, according to an article by the New York Times, pretzel twisting was one of the highest-paying jobs in the Philly area in 1861, second only to jobs in the tobacco industry. Nowadays, soft pretzels are a ubiquitous street food offering here in Philly, the genuine article distinguished by a soft and chewy consistency and a golden-brown color (and best enjoyed with a squeeze of yellow mustard straight from the bottle).

If you'd rather snag your soft pretzel warm and fresh from the conveyor belt than from a street cart, you're in luck! There are a number of soft pretzel factories pumping pretzels out on a daily basis in Philly, the most notable of which include Philadelphia Soft Pretzel Factory and Center City Pretzel.

The hours for retail sales vary, but you can score a brown paper bag filled with piping hot pretzels for just a buck or two. Consider that a small price to pay for a true taste of Philly pride."

I went to grade school in South Philly, and every day one of the pretzel factories would bring big shopping bags with handles full of pretzels to our school, and the bags would be hanging on the doorknobs of our classroom doors. Then we could purchase pretzels to have during lunch! I loved it! Here in South Jersey we have Philly Pretzel Factories, which make really good soft pretzels, and our Wawa's (local convenience stores) sell some pretty good soft pretzels.

Wow, 9 hours is a lot! I can see why you're staying for a full two weeks! I'm hoping to to stay 2 weeks on my next trip, whenever that may be. If I can afford it and can take off time from work :-)
140 days will fly by!!! It's already less than that! I'm so happy for you!!!!!!! :flower1:

Can't wait for the next installment :)
Soon, I promise! :-)

Thank you for the informative post! I enjoyed reading that little piece of history :-)
I don't usually go for the soft pretzels or pretzels at all, but two years ago I became an Auntie Anne's addict! And on this last trip I found them at the airport. I spent the last of my dollars on a cup of mini pretzel dogs :cloud9:
Next time I'm in Philly I'll make sure to have me an original Philadelphia soft pretzel. And a cheesesteak! :teeth:

image.jpeg Orange swirl update !!! I'm at the world now (yeah) and found the orange swirl. I was so happy! It is at the sunshine tree terrace in adventure land in MK. Sorry I didn't think to get a picture before I dove in. It tastes like a creamsicle! Yum!
