This will be our 1st trip to Disneyland and was just concerned about the safety of us getting from off property hotel to Disneyland. I know its not in an unsafe neighborhood but is it something I should be concerned with? Walking alone from Disney?

You should be fine. At any given time, there are tons of pedestrians walking in and out of the resort. You won't be walking all alone on a dark street.

Miche-

I'm a single mom also I cannot wait to take my son on this trip!!.

What hotel are you staying at perhaps it has a shuttle or is on the ART line if you want to do that.

Have a great trip!

I orginally wanted to stay at the Howard Johnson because of the water facilities for children but then looked into the Park Vue for the convience and shorter walk by myself but if there are lots of people walking at night I may go back to Howard Johnson. I just wish I would stop second guessing and make a decision.

I would totally feel comfortable walking to Hojos. There will be lots of people walking that route.

What's nice about HoJo is that it's a proper *hotel* with inside corridors. The other ones on Harbor are *motels*, or motor hotels, with the doors that open straight to the parking lot.

Having an indoor corridor just adds a bit more safety IMO.

I agree!

We are going to be there March 1-5th. According to my children's countdown we have 47 days. Not that their excited or anything.

Yeah I bet they've forgotten you guys are even going :-)

Do you have an Entertainment Card? If so, call Hojo and ask for inhouse reservations...see if you can get an Entertainment Card rate! And if you don't have one, see if the rate is available and buy a EC book online.. it'll be worth the savings!

No to hi-jack, but...I am. :goodvibes Does the same apply to car safety? We are going to be passing thru on a military relocation.....so the car will be jam packed with stuff (mostly clothes and electronics). A little worried about having it sitting in hotel lots. As much as possible will be in the trunk, but I'm sure the back seat will be packed too. Right now we are looking at BW Park Place Inn.

FWIW, I am in a wheelchair, and my husband could not get off work to go with us to Disneyland. I stayed with my young teenaged daughter at the Howard Johnson's, and we never felt unsafe.

(This was back in February. We also stayed there as a family at Christmastime, and we enjoyed it both times. We hung out a lot by the pool and had lunch there most days with food delivered from Vons.)

We stayed at Hojo for 2 out of our three trips (the other was on-site). I felt like it was perfectly safe. There were always people walking to and from like us, and we also took the shuttle a fair amount (which is GREAT after a long day at the park, especially with kids).
So that gives you two ways to go back and forth, both very safe as long as you use normal precautions. Don't walk back two hours after park closes, don't give people your room number, etc.
And as a PP stated, part of why I liked Hojo so much was as a single mom, I felt much safer with inside corriders that required a key card to get in.

While I am not a single mom, our trips to DL have been when we tagged along with my husband while he was in CA on business. So, I was basically in the park with my two little ones for a few days on my own. We have always stayed at the HoJo (3 times now) and I go back and forth during the day with my kids, as well as going back at night... I have always felt safe. You might see some homeless people at the bus stops... we encountered one lady at the main crosswalk who asked us if we were Christians and then started singing to us loudly... but there have always been a bunch of other people around and so I have never felt unsafe (and this is during the "slow season"). Once a guy approached us closer to the HoJo to buy pencils or something for some church, we just said "no, thank you" and moved along and almost immediately, someone from one of the hotels or restaurants came out and told the guy he had to move on. I think those businesses have good reasons to keep things safe for the people walking along the sidewalk in front of them. :thumbsup2

We always unload the car completely when we park in motel lots. It just isn't worth ruining a vacation over. Last trip it was a pain, but we didn't want to lose our Christmas gifts or electronics, for just one night on our drive down (we detoured for a family bowling night). Took about 15 to unload and probably about 25 to repack, but was worth it not to have to deal with a break in on vacation.

Unload that car. I know it will be a pain, but it would be a bigger pain to lose it all and have to deal with glass/door/doorknob replacement as well.

If oyu're at hojo with stuff in the car, I believe they've been known to leave notes or contact the owner to warn them that they are being unsafe.

If you really must keep everything in the car, I'd book someplace with a garage that's at least enclosed, for a bit more safety. DH says that the Hilton's parking garage (one night's parking fee was something like $15) is inside and therefore a tiny bit safer than an outdoor, open to everyone passing by, garage.
