Don't you think that we probably just eat too MUCH food, rather than the WRONG foods?

I can't help but think that if we did the "everything in moderation" thing, eat only when our tummies growled and stopped when we were satisfied, not stuffed, we'd be fine.

It sounds so simple...why don't we do it? I, for one, would eat SO MUCH less food! I ate at about 2pm and my stomach just growled for the 1st time and it's almost 9:30!

What do you all think? Are carbs or fat or whatever really evil foods, or do we just eat too much food?

I think that you are thinking too much. ;)

LOL, Beth!

I think I eat to much food too often. It was the way I was raised. Every celebration involved food.

You couldn't have a vacation if you didn't eat everything you wanted. You couldn't go to a wedding or shower and not eat cake, it just wasn't done.

I don't do that anymore and the only thing I've done differently is to eliminate the refined carbohydrates from my eating plan. Works very well for me. I've been amazed at the change in my thinking. Now, when I plan a trip, I don't start thinking about where I'm going to eat, I plan what I'm going to do.

Katholyn, I wish that I could not think about where I'll be eating at WDW...lol.

Firecracker,

Of course it is all about calories (quantity of food) really. I think eliminating certain food groups makes it much easier for some people not to overeat. Some people go vegetarian for weight control reasons, some prefer Atkins. I do buy into the idea that highly refined carbs are quickly digested and leave me feeling hungry sooner than a meal that includes protein and fat, but I absolutely agree with you that there are not "evil" foods.

I think waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the pre historic days we did just eat when we were hungry! ;) However, with the modern conveniences of this day and age we are surrounded by food. Food in the grocery store, fast food, casual restaurants, fancy restaurants, theme park eatery's, seafood places at the beach, etc. It's all about food, great marketing and someone wanting to make money off our lust for food.

For ME, following this eating plan is what is working. I eat at very specific times but I'm hungry for something at the time I have scheduled to eat! ;)

Good thread!

I think it's a combination of both. A lot of us eat too much food AND the wrong foods.

Personally, I feel better than I have in a long time since I've been eating mostly whole foods - most of what I eat is just like nature made it. No frozen meals, no fast food, no highly processed foods, almost no refined sugar or white flour.

I like the idea of "everything in moderation," and am getting better at that all the time. It's hard for me, though, when I want "just a little" Mexican food (my favorite!). Suddenly, I'm eating waaaaay past full, just because it tastes good!

But yes, you're absolutely right. If we could eat just what we needed, only when we were hungry, in such a way that it fulfilled our nutritional needs, well shoot! That's the answer to it all!

Daisy;)

They say kids today are fatter than ever - and it's partly attributed to the amount of pop they drink. And apparantly we tend to "supersize" things when we eat out. So, we often overeat, and the things we do eat (lots of refined carbs) aren't good for us.
