Really - I would not worry that much about old cards.... here is why:
Did you pay your 2016 dues? If so, carry a receipt. The SECOND you get a stink? Consider contacting your CC company & challenging the Yearly Dues charge.
Yup - that's a bomb run.... but when denied service for something you have paid for? NOT unreasonable.
It absolutely is unreasonable. Your dues (read: maintenance fees) go towards upkeep at your home resort. The perks are not paid for by your dues, and Disney tells you that they're subject to change at any time. Whether you receive any specific perk or not, you are still contractually obligated to pay your dues. You are not entitled to anything beyond the points you receive for your membership.
That said, why is it more convenient to carry the receipt for your dues payment than to carry a print out of your digital Member ID card, which they make freely available to you?

On a side note, we still haven't received my wife's membership card.
