silly wine question

So this weekend I delighted in my first bottle of Banfi Rosa Regale. I am now so excited to try Magicale on my next DL trip to see how the two compare. When ordering, what exactly is the correct pronunciation of "Magicale"??? Is the "e" silect or pronounced as a final syllable in an Italian style?

I had a glass when I was in Disneyland in February. The person who served me the wine pronounced it with the "e" silent. The "cal" part sounded like the "cal" in calendar. Hope that helps!

I had always heard it pronounced Magical(silent e) as well until last week. We were at the paid wine class event conducted by Joy Cushing. She is a high ranking wine sommelier for Napa Rose. She pronounced the e at the end, like Magical-ee. So, that's how I say it now. But I have a feeling either pronunciation is acceptable.

i haev hard it both ways.."magicale" e is silent and and with "e" not silent. there is no wrong way to say it.

FYI, if you have a BevMo near you, they carry these wines there, in both large bottles and "split" sizes.

I currently have a split of Banfi Rosa Regale in my fridge door. WAY cheaper than at Disney too.

No BevMo here, but there are plenty of sources for the Banfi. Maybe I'll just play it safe & order "that fizzy red perfection of a wine."

Where do you buy these (in DLR and outside)? Are you talking about a certain label or a type of grape/blend? I would love to try something new but not sure what exactly to look for and where to find it.

no the wine is located at DCA(california adventure) BUT the wine festival ended yesterday,but have no fear, the wine bar is under construction right now and will re-open june 11th! so you will be able to have your "sampeling" of wine there!! i hope this helps you specialks!

ohh also, most of the wine that is sold at DCA by the glass you can find at a bevmo,or wine styles or a total wine

The Magicale is only sold at the Disney resorts. Not at BevMo. I have purchased the Rosa Regale many times, and while similar and quite tasty, it is not quite up to par with Magicale. I have paid $35-$48 per bottle more times than I care to admit for it at WCT, Napa Rose and the Contemporary in FL and then saw it for sale to take out at DCA for $20 this month. I sure did snatch up a half a dozen bottles at the F&W Festival! What is funny is we were staying at the villas at GC and their giftshop sells it. Only it was $29 there. I asked the CM why the price difference just a short distance away and she just shrugged her shoulders.

So my point is, call it whatever makes you happy, but know that you can get it at a very reasonable price during the F&W Festival or purchase a close knock off for the same $20 per bottle price any time.

Here's a helpful tool to locate Rosa Regale close to home, especially if you want to find the less common 187 or 375ml split bottles. Banfi store locator It shows stores who have purchased in the last 3 months. I was able to find split bottles at Walmart of all places today....brought home a half dozen.

I was told by the server's at the wine bar as well as from the sommelier from Napa Rose that the vineyard that bottles "Banfi Rosa Regale" is the same that bottles "Magicale". They are indeed the same wine. I get mine at Costco. Also, I was told that this is Cleopatra's grape. Fun story.

I cannot help but laugh because of what we pay for alcohol here in Canada. (Which is waaaaay too much) I can't wait to buy a bottle or 2 of this stuff when I come down I priced out the difference once and 24 case of Bud sells for $16 in the States and is $36 here in Canada This stuff would probably sell for $50 or more a bottle in the Great White North I love America!!!

I actually searched this on the dis a few weeks ago, after having magicale at the Sweet Sunday event we went to. A poster posted that they noticed on their magicale bottle that the wine was imported by Casa Torelli, and that they found a bottle on the casatorelli.com website that matched the description of the Magicale.

This is the bottle that post pointed me to.

Dh and I live in a state that the winery does ship to (check out their shipping information to see if they ship to you)...we ordered 2 bottles. It arrived in about a week, and it tastes pretty much exactly like the Magicale (which at the Sweet Sunday we went to was pronounced Mag-ih-cal-ee). We plan to order a few more bottles before we leave here

I ran across the same post Angel Ariel referred to in my own searching last night.

Anyway, it appears that Rosa Regale is Brachetto d'Acqui, and the Abbazia from Casa Torelli (and thus the Magicale if it is indeed the same wine) is Brachetto Piemonte. Here is an article describing the difference. Referencing this link, I found it interesting that the Brachetto d'Acqui with its DOCG classification has more stringent production rules (and is deemed to be higher quality by the legal classification) than Brachetto Piemonte with its DOC classification. Playing devil's advocate here.....would that not make Rosa Regale a "higher quality" wine than Magicale? (Note I did not say "better tasting"; that is subject to individual taste. I'm also not saying that Magicale is low quality). Does the Disney exclusivity of Magicale lend to a perception of it being a "better" wine than Rosa Regale? Please don't flame me.....just writing a progression of thoughts that went through my head as I read that first article.

Veering even further from the original topic....(is it okay to hijack your own thread??) Another really great dessert wine I recently discovered is the Harvest Select Red by Tahoe Ridge Winery in Minden, NV. It's not a sparkling wine. The tasting notes say it is done in a "port style." The server in the tasting room referred to it as "liquid love." It was AMAZING! Yes, I prefer it to the Rosa Regale. But....at $32 a bottle and having literally twice the alcohol content of Rosa Regale, I won't be going through half the bottle in one evening, if you know what I mean.
