Silly story about using the washer at AKV-a bit long!

washer and dryer our first stay since we were only there a couple of days, but we definitely will this summer when we are there for 7 days. This is good info to store away for just such an occasion.:cool1:

Me either. And since I use liquid detergent at home, I was planning on filling up a travel shampoo bottle with some detergent here so I would have extra. Guess that idea is out, as liquid detergent directly onto the clothes would probably leave marks.
Powder or liquid, I would recommend putting the detergent in first and then adding the clothes so you don't have to worry about leaving marks on the clothes.

You might also mix the liquid detergent with some water before you put it in the washer.

I wonder how many maintenance calls these washers will require after using non-HE detergent for a long time.

Maybe we should print page 6 on a stickeyback and start putting them on the washers. JK

I was going to say this also but did not want to appear as a anal tide girl!:goodvibes

Ok good idea. I actually have a front-loading washer, but it has a cup for detergent :confused3

Do you add the entire box of powdered detergent? I'd hate to come back and find the room full of bubbles! I use the HE liquid detergent with my front loader, and it uses a tiny bit.

NICE Maytag washer/dryer!! Is it quieter than the top loader combos? I always found that sooooo noisy.

I have a front loader at home and prefer it. My Mom had one too. So, I've been using one for about 20 years. I never buy the HE detergent unless it is on sale. :confused3 Just use less detergent. My machine is 7 years old. Never had a problem.

I doubt it. There is usually not bleach in liquid detergent, and putting it directly on a spot is reccomended, so I doubt it is an issue. I would NOT want to put a powder detergent on top of the clothes though, because some of those do have bleach in them.

First time I've ever been called an anal tide girl, but oh well. BTW, notice in my sig which is ME. I'm only kidding. We have a front loader too, and it also has the cup with a place for detergent, bleach, fabric softener, and actually another place for prewash. Based on some other posts, they better do something to clarify this for people because finding detergent residue in the fab softener slot is going to lead to many problems with these machines pretty quickly.

In case anyone wants to know, in 5471 (and 5469 if you get a 2 br) the type of the washer is a top loader. Did a few loads over our January stay.

Just back from AKV 6405 & the washer-dryer there is the top load stacker unit. It is extemely noisy! I hope to return to AKV in the future & would love to be able to use the front load type as they are a lot quieter.

Hope

Our washer at home is a front-loading HE. You can use regular detergent...you just use 1/2 to 3/4 of what you would normally use or you get a "suds" problem.

This is really troublesome as I see our dues increasing to replace these horrible washers. HE washers must use HE detergent as it is specially formulated in regards to sudsing - using less regular detergent or even powder is not good, even though the manual says it's ok. That's why these washers are so iffy - I wouldn't trust them at all. When I called a few manufacturers to ask about this, they said they mention it as a once in awhile thing, like you ran out of HE detergent and have nothing else to use, so you can use non-HE for a few days. The problem with these units as that many people won't know they are HE and use a huge amount of detergent, as well, regular detergent is being used all of the time as that is what Disney is providing. This is all around a bad situation.

Maytag Neptunes are pretty much the worst front loaders - there was a class action lawsuit and Maytag has actually stopped making them since they are so bad. A quick net search will make for some interesting reading on this product. Problem is though that HE machines can be fickle and detergent is definitely going to be an issue and could clog pipes/hoses which could then flood - this is exactly why Neptunes are so bad. Yikes!

AKV needs to fix this problem right away or it could be a costly mess! Tiger

We had the Front Load in 6202. Concierge 1 bedroom.

We also have the Maytag Front Loader at home and I do recall being stumped at AKV for a sec, but then just put half the box on the clothes.

I think they should make magnets and stick them on the doors of the machine. Someone should email this thread to DVC and let them know.

Plus, you dont want to use a dispenser that is all clogged up, because your bleach will not release when it is supposed to and could ruin your precious few vacation clothes.

As you all know, I was upset about not having a tub in that unit, but I was impressed with the appliances.
In addition to the Maytag front loader,we had a Kitchenaid Dish Drawer with 2Drawers, and a Whirlpool Fridge with the pull out freezer at the bottom with lots of sliding storage.

The Dish Drawer was kind of tricky too, as I never used one before and each drawer works independently. I only used it once.

I just read the manual. It recommends HE detergent but says that regular detergent can be used.

I have a high modle like this you need to use HE det if not your clothing will not rinse properly and be full of soap or you will have a ton of suds and I mean a ton it will look like whipped cream.

Thanks for posting this info. I would have had no idea where to put the detergent either.

Does anyone know if there is is a HE liquid detergent for sensitive skin. I use Dreft at home and the villas.

And what about a split stay? Our next visit is BCV/AKV. Is it better to use regular detergent at half strength at AKV or could I use HE at double strength at BCV.

Of course, I'm pretty sure I still have some Dreft down there anyway!?:confused3

This reminds me of the old threads about laundry tablets.:goodvibes
