First of all, I know DLR like its in my back yard (even though its 6 hrs away), and I've been to WDW twice in my life, and stayed on site once for 3 nights at the BWI when I was 10yo...So I really need some help!!!

I know this is silly...but, which resort, overall, would have the least amount of walking around the resort? It seems like a pretty silly question since you'll spend all day walking in the parks...

Next year, we are going to WDW with my in-laws. And my FIL, while young at heart, can be a little slow sometimes due to knee troubles. I will be doing most if not all the planning, and I just want to make sure that I don't pick the resort known for "all the walking." I know it'll depend on the room location and we'll hopefully be able to request a handicap accessible room, but I'm sure there are some resorts that would just be better for us? Or am I just crazy? :rotfl:

Thanks WDW vets...maybe I can help you someday when you come visit us on the other side of the country :goodvibes

All of the deluxe resorts are fairly large in size (I've only stayed at the Yacht Club - LOVE IT, Sis and Mom stayed at Beach Club) One thing we did when my mom was with us was speak to the WDW reservation desk, then again to the front desk asking for a room that was close to the parks (10 min from Epcot) with easy path. Mom and sister stayed at Beach Club and room was very easy to get to and didn't rquire going up and down 14,000 hallways. The room was very nice too...had a view.

Just ask the front desk or reservations for a close room.

hope this helps

POFQ is the smallest Disney resort. No room is very far from the main building or bus stop. Plus they have the boat to DTD.

The CR. It's "up & down" unless you stay in the wing. The WL is the smallest deluxe. It is a bit more spread out and not as "up & down" as CR.

You guys beat me to it.

I agree that POFQ, as the smallest moderate, has less walking. If in a value and you want to minimize walking you might want to pay for a preferred room. As far as the deluxes, we recently stayed in the CR tower and it wasn't much walking at all - which was great. With the monorail inside and being more vertical, it cuts down on walking a lot.

:)

I was going to suggest WL for a deluxe and POFQ for a mod but y'all beat me to it :).

I would say pick the resort you want and then pay for a preferred location.Don't most of the Disney hotel have a building close to the main hub? I am pretty sure the values and mods do.

Definitely Contemporary tower for deluxe and POFQ for mod.

The Value resorts have preferred rooms that are closer to the main building and bus stops. However in a moderate you can book Standard, Water view, or King bed rooms (not really a preferred room category). The water view and King bed rooms can be anywhere in the resort, including a mile from the main building.:rotfl: At a Deluxe your so called preferred room may also be a mile from the lobby or elevator. I know some of the Boardwalk view rooms at BW are a LONG way from the elevators and our Savannah view room at AKL was much further from the lobby than a Standard room. At a Deluxe room the more expensive rooms are for the view rather than how close they are to the elevators or lobby.

my response exactly!:thumbsup2

Thanks for your help everyone! We're going in May 2010, and I so hope we can do a deluxe (CR or WL) if the 4/3 deal comes out (story of my life, "if this code..." :lmao:). If not POFQ sounds like a great alternative!!

Also, you might want to look into getting an electric scooter for the time you are going to be here. This way--she doesn't have much walking to do and can motorize herself anywhere. There are a number of companies in and around the WDW area that will deliver and pick up right at the resort.

Cabins in Fort Wilderness (assuming you rent the golf cart for the week)

Drive cart to main bus or marina depot. They have parking there for carts only. Hop on the bus. Use cart to drive to the pools and trading post (main gift shop, sundry items etc)

We stayed in the cabins back in 2005 and we never walked anywhere. Plus driving around in the cart at night making friends with the RV folks was a total blast

Just wanted to add another vote for the Wilderness Lodge. I am here now and I still love it here. My mom has bad knees and can manage the hotel here just great. She has rented the ecv before and stayed at Poly, but she just does not need it here and only rents one in the park. Happy planning!:)
