Silly question about laundry

O.K., so my mom never taught me how to do laundry. In fact, until recently I never used bleach. So I started to use bleach for my whites and have found that some of the are yellowing. I use Clorox. So I look at some of the labels on my clothes and they say use only non-chlorine bleach. Can someone tell what this is?? I looked at every type of bleach at the store and none of them said non-chlorine. Help!!

They are usually powered, in boxes. I think Clorox makes one. Chlorine bleach will yellow polyester and other synthetic materials.

Non clorine bleach is something like Clorox II or others that are brighteners, but are not really bleach. I think things that have some other fibers but cotton are the ones that yellow....ones with a little lycra or polyester in them.

You could also use Oxy-Clean for your whites. Once they made this available in stores, I never went back to bleach again for my white stuff.

Clorox 2 is a non-chlorine bleach. I use it on all my colors.

Bleach also yellows cotton.

I don't think anyone mentioned it, but the label on the container usually calls it "color-safe bleach." Personally, I wouldn't use any kind of bleach, chlorine or non-chlorine, on my clothes every time. It will weaken the fibers faster than a mild detergent. But if you don't mind shopping for new clothes, or if you have a job that gets your clothes extra dirty, it's okay.
