Silly Fears

I remembered another one of mine: fire. It's not all that irrational I suppose, but when I was younger, my Mom used to keep me out of school for Fire Safety week because I'd get nightmares for 2 weeks following it. She decided her sanity wasn't worth me missing a week of school! I also couldn't (and still can't) sleep with the covers to tightly wound around me for fear I'd get trapped in my blankets and would get caught in them if I had to get up in the middle of the night if there were a fire.

I'm absolutely scared of elevators! I have to turn around and put my face into the corner and cover my eyes. If the doors don't open soon enough, I start panicking.

I'm also scared of driving on bridges over the water. I refuse to drive. As we get onto the bridge, I have to put one hand on my seat belt buckle and my other hand on the window button so if we did go off the bridge I can roll down the window and unbuckle my seat beat to get out once we hit the water.

spiders and cockroaches

clowns

masks. i can't watch 'the mask' movies or 'phantom of the opera' because i freak out

driving near buses or big trucks.

i also get scared driving near motorbikes. this one isn't so irrational because i hit one once (his fault and he didn't get hurt) but now i get scared if one is driving anywhere near me. especially in front of me.

My sister has this fear too. She has to take off the seatbelt though going over bridges and she actually does roll down the window before going on the bridge. She has had this fear for years.

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

Going under bridges or highway overpasses. I'm always afraid one is going to collapse over me and I'll be trapped.
Clowns. They're just scary.
Driving near diesels.
Snakes
Spiders

birds.

some more than others. the birds seem to know my fear and have it out for me...

the movie The Birds ruined me... did you ever see that movie? eew!

as a child a TON of those black birds would gather in our back yard. I would stand on the back porch afraid to go to my swing set.
once (as an adult) i was in the passenger seat of the car while my mom was driving and a large bird was about to hit the car... it looked like it was going to come right through our windshield! i screamed BIRD! and ducked and tried to get my mom to turn the wheel... :rotfl: to this day she doesnt let me live that down.

i dont do birds. hmpf.

Oh that movie was awful! I can't watch it to this day! (Did I mention I am not a bird fan either?) :rotfl: I wrote a whole post about them...horrible little rodents with wings! :lmao:

I'm such a coward! I'm afraid of heights, deep water and vomiting. I also don't like driving in a lane near those cement dividers. It's ok if the divider has a shoulder, then the lane. But if it is a divider, then the lane right next to it, I feel pinned in and can see an anxiety attack coming on.

Bubbles are the devil! Soap bubbles make my skin crawl! Seeing bubbles on my body freaks me out! I also can't stand to see them on dishes. I can't tell you how many fights my mom and I got into growing up when I was the "dryer" but refused to touch the dish until she "properly" rinsed! :rotfl:

I also HATE the feeling of newspaper paper and anything to do with escalators!

Bears... Ever since I was little I have been terrified by the thought of bears breaking down my door... Now understand, I live in Chicago (not a suburb, the actually city) and I grew up in Houston.... Not exactly bear country, but yet my fear continues.

Fingernail files! I hate them and will not go into a room with them in there.

My sister held me down and filed my teeth so I get the feeling like nails on a chalk board.:scared1:

OMG, sadly for those with these phobias, this thread cracked me up...all 7 pages!!!!

I am teased mercilessly for this...

fish.

Yes, fish. They terrify me. I can't swim in lakes and I wouldn't dream of eating seafood. NOTHING FROM THE SEA! Or a lake. Ew, lake fish are the worst! I can't even stand the thought of it. They are the most disgusting, vile, ugly creatures on the planet with their expressionless eyes, slimy scales, and squirmy bodies. GROSS!!!

But, I love Nemo. It's my favorite Disney movie. Go figure :confused3

:lmao:Sorry, you just worded this so funny...

I have an odd fear of balloons! I think it's more of the fear of it popping since it gives me instant anxiety when I see someone playing with a balloon.

My sister is like that too. I don't like them around my kids because I fear they will choke on them, but my sister can't be around them without hyperventilating....

I just thought of another irrational fear I have: when I am sleeping, I absolutely can NOT have any part of my body (arms, legs) hanging over the side of the bed. I am afraid someone or something will grab it.

You all know way too much about my neuroses now! :upsidedow

Oh...I still have that fear left over from being a kid.....

My main fear (aside from bees) is like some here. I can't be on the side of the road close to a big drop off...I have to be on the inside lane...and honestly, if I can see it, I'd rather be the DRIVER...I feel I have more control. I freak out a bit otherwise :rolleyes1

Those huge waterbugs! I once grabbed a woman on the subway platform and put her between me and the bug. She told me to grow a spine. :lmao:

I also hate driving through long tunnels under water--I keep thinking that if it leaks, there's no way out!

This is really stupid, but foreheads really bother me. Yeah, the part on your face. I don't know why, they just do.

Now, go commit me to the looney farm.
