Do you have fear of anything that is silly?

I have this totally crazy irrational fear of potato eyes. Yes, the roots that grow on the potato. Of course my DH and DS's think this is the funniest thing ever. I will not get near a potato with eyes. My husband peels them if they have eyes, of course he teases me with them the whole time. I am just wondering if I am the only one out there with a strange fear.

Ovens.
It's not because of cremation though. I just don't like the hot feeling when you put a pan in, and I always feel like I'm going to burn myself.

Driving on the right side of a bridge. I'm always afraid that a car will side swipe me from the left side and I will end up with nowhere to go but into the water. For that reason, I have to be on the left lane of a bridge. If I get hit there, at least I have traffic on either side of me. Less likelyhood of falling into water.

My friend is afraid of manhole covers and those subway grates. Apparently, that's my fault. When I was studying abroad, I stepped on a manhole cover that was in the sidewalk, only it wasn't secured properly. There was nothing around it to let people know it wasn't secured properly. My foot got caught and I ended up breaking a bone in my foot. So now, she will not step on one of those things. I, however, have not developed that fear.

Puppets. I always got really creeped out watching Mr. Rogers as a kid, because of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Then I got a copy of Neil Gaiman's "Mr. Punch" graphic novel, and that freaked me out as well.

I'm also deathly afraid of driving on the highway. I'm fine if I'm in the passenger seat, but I can't drive. I will get to where I'm going, but only after having a panic attack first and then shaking the whole way there. So 9 times out of 10, I will find someone else willing to drive.

Impressions. Yes, the ones at the dentist. I have a horrible fear of the dentist period and the two things that bother me most are impressions and laying so far back in the car that I feel my head is lower than my feet.

I'm having 4 root canals done on Tuesday and what do I dread the most? The impressions!

I am also afraid of birds. I am exactly like the tour guide at Flights of Wonder. I could play that part w/o *playing*. It is one of my favorite shows at WDW though. However, I am still afraid of birds.

And impressions.

OMG!! Little People! I have a huge phobia of Little People. It sounds disrespectful I know, but I can't help it. Absolutely petrified.:scared1:

I am teased mercilessly for this...

fish.

Yes, fish. They terrify me. I can't swim in lakes and I wouldn't dream of eating seafood. NOTHING FROM THE SEA! Or a lake. Ew, lake fish are the worst! I can't even stand the thought of it. They are the most disgusting, vile, ugly creatures on the planet with their expressionless eyes, slimy scales, and squirmy bodies. GROSS!!!

But, I love Nemo. It's my favorite Disney movie. Go figure :confused3

Animals that have gone through the taxidermy process scare like nothing else! I literally freak out if I see even a deer head on a wall. I get goosebumps and all sweaty. It's strange, but I hate them! Ewww!!!!

Clowns. They just freak me out.

Dolls, the kind that are meant to look like actual little babies but people put them on a shelf or something...CREEPY.

I also agree I prefer to be on the inside lane of a bridge.

We have some local chain type restaurants that have TV's in certain areas. In some instances they are directly over where people sit. I will NOT sit at one of those tables for fear that it will fall on me.

water at night :scared1: ( which is rough as I love the ocean )
hate that I can't see where it ends or the land begins, won't even go out on a pier.
You will never see me on a cruise unless heavily medicated from sunset to sunrise.
DH, kids, everyone has tried to "cure' me of this, I have no idea how or why it started, I guess when I was little I had no problem with it according to my parents..:confused3
I can only handle well lit swimming pools, other wise major panic attack
Once DH pulled a prank acting like he fell into Lake Michigan, I was a distance away and DH was along a retaining wall and jumped. He came up a few minutes later acting all bummed that I didn't run to save him...yeah, if it's at night, NOT gonna happen! I'll yell for help, call 911, but I would be of NO help at all, I would worsen a situation.
Flew to HI, and as luck would have it, one direction the flight was over the ocean at night. I was paralyzed w/fear for 3 hours. Weird, I know.

I blame Jaws ;)

Butterflies. I would rather have tarantulas crawling all over me than touch a butterfly. I have this secret feeling that butterflies are very sinister creatures. I cannot stand even seeing one. Bleghhh.

Planes! I knew two people on Flight 800 and I think that did it for me. I've flown three round trips in m life and do everything I can do avoid it. Last time I had a full on freak out in the middle of hte airport. It looked like the had taken our plane from a scrapyard! :scared1:

I also don't like to swim with things under me. We went to paint houses for Spring Break in Corpus Christi one year and we spent an afternoon at the beach. There was a warning of an underwater structure and I could not go near it. Same thing with Castaway Cay. Apparently there is some kind of wreck on the adult beach and I would not go near it. Freaks me out. (Plus several people saw a barracuda (or so they said.) Decided not to take my chances).

I am terrified of COWS, the bad part is that when I look out of my living room window, I see a cow pasture :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I know its crazy, but I am terrified to drive on the interstate, will drive miles out of the way to get where I am going. Not very economical!

And Lightning! I will sit in the car for hours if I have to, I am not going out in the lightning at all!

My tag says it all. Lobsters. I cannot go into a strange restaurant or grocery store without finding out first if they have them, I can't watch any undersea movies as you never know when one might crawl out somewhere. I have learned the word for lobster in every language necessary when we travel out of the country.

And I lived on Cape Cod and only left my house for therapy in a failed attempt to get past this fear. Found it easier to just move.

Oh my goodness, ChattyAnn -- I thought I was the only person who hates those awful things. I'll throw potatoes out before I'll peel one with eyes.

I also hate praying mantis. There is nothing in the world I fear more than those terrible creatures.

Elephants and horses. I just don't trust them. I refuse to take my kids to the circuse because when the elephants come on I have to go stand at the back of the tent. I hate the horse drawn carriages at DL.

Here are my three phobias:

1. Driving on bridges over water. I don't care if it's in the left lane or the right lane, I don't like driving over them period. I feel like I can't breathe! (This could be due to a recurring nightmare that I have about drowning while in my car.)

2. Stopping at a traffic light and being stuck under a train trestle. This was a huge problem when I was in college, because I had to go under one every day.

3. Swimming in water where I can't see my feet. If I can't see them, I have no idea what's swimming around them and could possibly bite them. Ugghh!
