Silly Fears

the dark~ I still have a Care Bears night light. Those little bears care unlike the DH who thinks it should be thrown away.

You guys should watch the videos on Youtube that show people with those irrational fears. They freak. Badly.

I guess I have a very mild fear of spiders, not so much anymore. It used to be much worse, but now I can capture a spider and come close to it (the raisin sized ones sometimes are even a little cute!) but I can't touch one. That I won't do. I'm not afraid of ants though. When I was little, I used to pick them up.

I never really thought about this, but opposite of claustrophobia, spaces that are extremely extremely dark and large give me the heebie-jeebies. The perfect example is that cavern lake in the 6th Harry Potter book. I keep envisioning a dark void into a high high ceiling and it just frightens me how frightening that expanse is. Which I why I will never journey into deep space :wizard:

I freak out when I'm not touching the floor. I can't sit on chairs that are too high because I get scared if my feet aren't on the ground. When I was younger I used to sleep on the carpet because I couldn't feel the floor from my bed. I can sleep on a bed now, but it took me a long time to get over it. And it took me even longer to be comfortable in cars...

I am pretty fearless but I have a fear of going in a submarine. I know what is the likelihood of that happening?

I have toured subs before and been ok but the thought of being out in the ocean in one just scares me
Keep me away from the sinking tuna can of death!

Oddly, I love to swim and scuba diving sounds like a lot of fun.

Trash. Specifically kitchen trash. I am absolutely fine with bathroom or general paper trash, but kitchen trash eeks me out. I'll empty the kitty litter all you want. Heck, I'll even clean out the fridge, though that's a job I seriously hate. But take out the kitchen trash....ugh. I can deal with it if absolutely necessary, but I highly, highly prefer that DH take it out.

I'm thinking of all the folks scared of bridges (my DH is among them). I grew up on an island and the only way on or off was over one of two bridges. Would have been impossible.

can't walk up stairs with someone behind me.
Spiders. Hate em. I can throw a baseball at a coyote in my front yard fearlessly, but scream like a banshee at the sight of a spider.

I don't like being the first or last in line, especially when I'm in a basement. If I go into my basement, I have to have my sister go down first. When I'm ready to go, I have to go up the stairs first with her behind me.

I'm really terrified of basements. Too many viewings of The Shining and Amityville Horror I guess.

I don't like the dark or dinosaurs. I've seen Jurrassic Park umpteen times and it still wigs me out. I also ride Dinosaur at AK everytime we go and everytime I bury my head in my lap the entire ride and scream like a *******. Good times.

I'm also deathly afraid of driving on the highway. I'm fine if I'm in the passenger seat, but I can't drive. I will get to where I'm going, but only after having a panic attack first and then shaking the whole way there. So 9 times out of 10, I will find someone else willing to drive.

me too

This sounds incredibly mean, but deformed people. I've always been freaked out by that. Any movies with deformed people - Forget it.

I just thought of another irrational fear I have: when I am sleeping, I absolutely can NOT have any part of my body (arms, legs) hanging over the side of the bed. I am afraid someone or something will grab it.

You all know way too much about my neuroses now! :upsidedow

OMG I used to have that too!! But it wore off now. :goodvibes

I'm terrified of blimps :confused3

When I was a kid, I won a ride on the Goodyear blimp. I was terrified and did not want to go. My parents made me. But, when I opened the door to get in I saw two nuns and a priest. So, I figured if this blimp is going down I'm covered!

Another one I remembered - ants. Absolutely freak the hell out over them. Despise them.

So...ants & long noodles.

I can't stand having my head under water, or maybe its just having my ears under water. That hollow sound and the pressure give me the eeby jeebies :scared1:

Unlurking to admit (to complete strangers :)) that my fear of fish is so irrational that I am terrified to walk near the fish tanks in a pet store. I am paralyzed with fear they will jump hard enough to push the lid up and escape and land on me. A year or so ago my friends were trying to "cure" me of this fear and convinced me to walk by the fish tanks in Petco. About halfway down the aisle I slid and looked down and, no joke, there was a dead goldfish that I had just smeared across the floor. My mind knows it probably didn't jump out and that it was already dead, but it doesn't matter. The mere thought of walking by fish tanks reduces me to a blubbering mass.

That' funny, when I was younger I had that fear too. I also always had to have a sheet or cover on me, even if I was hot I had to have something covering me. I guess I thought nothing would get me if I was covered up. :rotfl:

I love reading about other peoples crazy fears!

Some of mine are:

* Clowns
* Oompah Loompahs from Willy Wonka
* Rutger Hauer - enough said on that one!
