  1. When they say how poor you are at debates
  2. When they say "I could strike that down soooo easily..."
  3. When they say "I can't believe how [offence] you are!"
  4. When they tell you you're wrong yet don't offer the right answer

Any others?

We're all guilty :teeth:

They mention their "credentials" on a particular subject (yes, I'm guilty of that)

Signs that someone has lost an argument...

He/she starts calling people Nazis.

When they get a thread closed or deleted. :flower:

So, doesn't that mean that the last person that posts got the thread closed. Did she do it on purpose? :confused3 Maybe she'll show up on here and tell us! :rotfl2:

I think the first sign someone has lost a debate is when they resort to personal attacks on the other persons integrity or intelligence, instead of just debating the facts of the matter.

You see it in political debates all the time, here and elsewhere.

They bash and run...a classic drive by disser (thanks again go out to Grumbo for that term!)

When they say "Whatever".

When they say that "everybody does that".

When they dispute facts based purely on their source.

When they justify actions because "things are different now".

I think it is when they start arguing a totally different issue or state that you were wrong before. The best is the imaginery conversation where you alleged said something or did something. That one is hard to debate since it never happened. Quite frustrating.

when you get this---------> as the only answer.

When they say "I suppose you've never gone over the speed limit." It's a general purpose excuse some people use when they don't have a real argument. I hate that.

They flip the game board

OH that's lost at checkers...nevermind

When it comes to political debates, or any debate, there really are people who have no integrity and really are as dumb as a box of rocks.

Oh I know there are. But in a debate, be the bigger person and stick with cutting down the other persons argument, not the other person. Referring to someone as a moron, an idiot etc. is only going to make you look bad to a debate moderator (if you were in a debate class, you'd lose points for that kind of stuff).

I think we already covered attacking the person.
