My first day is going to be Sunday, April 10th. I am going to be interested to read more details about this and what I can and cannot do between now and then.

Hopefully this will make it easier for those who complain about the system. I'm looking forward to not having to book three since most of the time there are usually only 1 or 2 I really want in each park and I hate having to tie up a third. I rarely use all three so it doesn't effect me a lot but I know it should now make it easier for those who like to book more. It's also nice that you will be able to hop with them, I can see me booking one or two at MK using them, then hopping over to Epcot or HS.

Not having to book 3 initial fastpasses will be nice. Especially at Epcot. We are going April 29 - May 5th so I will be interested to see the changes on the 10th. I have Test Track, Spaceship Earth, and Journey booked for Epcot on April 30th. I am definitely thinking of dropping Spaceship Earth and Journey that day and having just Test Track booked.

We would then be hopping to Magic Kingdom later that day so it would be nice to book a fastpass for Magic Kingdom that day from Epcot after our Test Track FP as we are walking around World Showcase enjoying some of the Flower and Garden food kiosks.

I just tried changing my FP+ on Sunday, April 10th. I wanted to drop from 3 FP+'s down to 2 of them. The site is still automatically choosing a 3rd for me.

According to the article, the changes won't go into effect until the 10th.

this sounds like a logical and good change!

I assume that for tiered parks, if you pick fewer than 3 initial FPs, you cannot get a second Tier 1 Fast Pass until you use 3 total FPs, only one of which is a Tier 1. In other words, at Epcot, if you only book TT, you won't be able to book Soarin' until after you book and use 2 more FPs, both of which have to be Tier 2 attractions. So while booking fewer then 3 might seem like a good thing, booking all 3 still may be the best option at Tiered parks, even if one or more of them are throwaways.

I especially like that they state you will be able to choose a time and attraction simultaneously, not just picking attractions and having to go back to adjust every time! However, I hope it is smart enough to give you "close enough" options and not just say "unavailable" if you looked for a Space at 11:00 but it doesn't have one til 11:10.

The article doesn't seem to go into enough detail to know. Why do you think you won't be able to book an "additional" until you use up 3? Presumably, that's a prediction based on the fact that a tiered park would not really be tiered as long as you were smart enough not to book 3 initially. I see your point, but I haven't heard anything about enhancements other that the coveted skipping a kiosk improvement. I wondered whether there were solid rumors about these changes I hadn't heard of yet.

ETA: looks like we'll all be studying up on changes in the FP super thread in the near future!

the only problem is that unlike the previous paper ticket system where you were likely able to get a fastpass if you wanted one, I feel like if you want to book a 4th from the app you are going to end up with only the rides that dont even need one to choose from because the others all get booked up in advance anyway. I wonder what the percentage is for people who make fastpass reservations and then dont show up for them

Exactly. This would be a drastic change for parks where ride capacity is limited. It is one thing to change the convenience of how one books their FPs, but it would be something else entirely to change tiering. I suppose it might not matter if FPs forTier 1 attractions reach capacity in advance of park opening. In that case I suppose it wouldn't much matter. Anyone who tries to book Soarin' after using only one FP in the park will get shut out, so at that point, tiering is secondary to availability.

I am excited about this change but I am doubting what will actually be available later in the day. How many people will book a FP+ in another park and then not actually make it to the park? I doubt people will bother canceling their FP+ when their plans change.

This has been a trending topic and the consensus I've seen from other boards is that you can book 3 FPs and then cancel two - as long as you use your Tier 1 FP first. Once you do that, you'll be able to book another Tier 1 FP but it has to be same-day, while you're in the park.
