Just returned from DW where we dined at Flying Fish, Blue Zoo, California Grill and Artist's Point.

Here are some select comments.

Kids - First off there were kids at all of the restaurants and they were all Very well behaved. We had no problems with any kids of any age disrupting a dining room. Way to go parents! That being said Blue Zoo was by FAR the most adult oriented restaurant. When we left at 8:30 there were 5 kids that I could see in the entire large restaurant. The restaurant was of course very kid friendly, maybe it was just that particular night. CG had the largest proportion of kids.

Dress - I was pleasantly surprised, almost everyone was dressed appropriately and I would say that the norm was traditional business casual (not Disney business casual) at all the restaurants. There were of course some iffy t-shirts and shorts but they were by FAR the minority. At FF a young woman in denim cutoffs was refused entry. Way to go FF!! Again, Blue Zoo was by far the dressiest restaurant and CG the most casual.

Food - FF was easily the best meal followed by AP and CG. Blue Zoo was very good also but the "roasted fish" special was very poor so I dropped it to the end. All of the meals were well prepared, served promptly and the service was good.

Misc - The meals were one of the true highlights of our trip. There were really no negatives except for the reservation system at CG. There were 10 of us and the earliest we could get was a 7:40 reservation. We showed up 15 min early and were not seated until 8:30. According to CG this happens all the time as they have no way to control how long people sit at a table watching fireworks. I know there might be some waiting envolved but 50 min is unacceptable. Acording to the manager and waitstaff this happens quite often. Disney needs to find a better way to deal with this. That being said it was worth the wait as we got a GREAT table in the wine room with plenty of space and it was very quiet and we could see Illuminations. I highly reccommend this room over the main dining room. You can't see Wishes but you can always use the balcony.

Yak and Yeti - This restaurant was recently panned in the Orlando paper and I have to say our meal was quite the opposite. The food was well prepared, fresh and very flavourful. I would highly reccommend this restaurant.

Best Disney dining experience - Standing in line at the fish and chips place in the UK at Epcot. Couple of guys 2 places ahead of me were having a hard time trying to figure out who should buy dinner. I jokingly said that could buy my dinner too if they wanted. They laughed and moved on. The next gentleman in line gets up to the window and pulls me up there and says "I'll buy your dinner" I thought he was joking but he was not, I told him I was buying for 4 people and that I couldn't let him do that. He would not take no for an answer and he just said "pay it forward". True Disney magic. :wizard:

Funniest moment - Sitting in the Rose and Crown just before Illuminations, the table next to us opens up and is cleared and reset. A group of 6 seeing the empty table from the bar jump in it and sit down. They are all high fiving each other and laughing at being able to "find" such a great table. The waitstaff and restaurant manager are just staring at them. The look on their faces when the manager told them that all the tables were by reservation only and there were no more reservations available that evening was priceless.

Thanks for the comments!!! And I love the "pay it forward" man. What a nice thing to do!!:cloud9:

If someone were to go to a signature, what would be appropriate to wear? I know this has been asked over and over again...but I'll ask it just one more time.

Disney rules allow anything but swimwear, cutoffs and hats for men. That being said as I noted in my original post most diners tend to wear something a little nicer than basic park attire. I wore Khaki's and a shirt with a collar because that is what I felt most comfortable in. YMMV.

Cali Grill thing is a bit out of control. I went by the desk when we were staying at the CR for a CPA conference and the host told me if we wanted to be seated at our 630 ADR we needed to check in at 530pm!!!! I was like what and tired to cancel of course they said I couldn't b/c it was less then 24 hours before hand. So we went at 545pm and got seated at right at 630pm. I did see and hear many people getting extremely annoyed by the time we left b/c of the wait with ADRs. And one man throwing a fit b/c they were going to be sitted on the other side of the restaurant from MK. Let just say we have probably wont go back anytime soon.

That is sooooooo cool!!! :thumbsup2

We just returned after a week of all signature dining also and share many of the same comments as OP. I agree that Ca Grill is getting a bit out of control. We waited an hour for our ADR as a party of four and by the time we got seated, the number of people waiting for their tables had grown tremendously. I've seen posts out here recently where people are talking about getting an ADR for 2+ hours before fireworks and eating slow. I guess it doesn't matter that there are people waiting to eat. :confused3

The night we ate at JIKO, there were no children in the restaurant that we saw. It was very adult and we enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine and some great company with our group. I also don't recall seeing any children at Yachtsman either but we did have a 9pm ADR which might have something to do with that. For both of these meals it was a quiet evening. We enjoyed our meals at JIKO more this time (we've eaten at all of these places before).

I can't comment on the dress because I didn't notice what anyone else was wearing. Well, except for the woman who took her shoe off and put her foot on the table at the CA Grill to show her husband something. That scorchd the retinas and burned into my brain for life.

Do you think khaki shorts be okay?

Certainly! As has been noted, dress shorts, jeans and even t-shirts are all perfectly acceptable under the Disney version of "business casual". Within the code, dress how YOU feel comfortable and don't give a second thought about what everyone else might wear.

Great review! What you experienced at California Grill is what we have also experienced. For that reason, we have stopped dining there. Once again, thanks for taking the time to write such an extensive review. It's much appreciated.

I too have avoided the CG and probably will not be back until they some how get the reservation system to act more like, well, a reservation system. I do have to say that the chaos with the reservations system was not evident in the kitchen as the food was very well prepared and timely.

We've done CG before and were hoping to do it again in August, but this time with our sons (10.5 and 6). I was planning on an earlier ADR time since the fireworks at that time of year are much later, but now I'm concerned that we're going to be sitting with 2 boys waiting an hour for a table and as good as my kids are, that's almost too much for me.

Anyone have an experience with earlier times? Should I bag it altogether or take the chance?

If you go early you shouldn't have too much of an issue. If you are not concerned with Fireworks book a 5:30 or 6:00 and you should be OK.
