Sigma EF-500 DG Super E-TTL II Digital Flash for Canon EOS

anyone have or know anything about this flash? or anything i should beware of or look for in a flash? ( rebel xt) i read the other flash thread but didn't want to hijack it... so it covered the canon but how about any 3rd party...any ideas?

would a flash like this made for eos be limited if i ever changed camera bodies ( i mean, staying with canon but not rebel). are flashes less able to cross over to other camera bodies?
thanks

read a few reviews for it and most seemed favorable so what do i have to do to use a flash like this on my camera?...is it mostly automatic or am i going to have to fiddle with stuff...auto it would have to be good at communicating with the camera and my sigma lens had a problem with that but don't know if it would carry over to a flash

jan - i used to have this flash (until it was stolen from my luggage enroute to s'pore).
it's very similar to the 580ex. you can use it in ettl mode and not have to worry about anything really (the ettl-ii is carried out by the camera body, so the flash is completely compatible).

there is another element of this question which is how difficult is using an external flash. there is no difference between using the canon or the sigma in ettl mode. in using it in a manual mode, there are a few more capabilities on the canon (which i also have). in using an external flash - you are generally going to either use it in AV mode and let the flash 'fill'. or you're going to use the flash as the main light source, in which case i'd start with 'p' mode.

Unless you are a hard core photographer, you probably don't need the extra features that the 580ex offers over the 430ex. I have the 430ex to go with my rebel xt and I love it. It totally changes the quality of your flash pictures.

But it is true that the flash behaves differently when you are using TV vs AV vs M and I always forget which is which, but that is true for the on board flash as well.

All that being said, I don't know nuttin about the sigma line.
