For all of the crop sensor DSLR shooters out there, there's a new lens in town. Time to start saving for the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8

You read that correctly! f/1.8 Throughout the entire zoom range!

No price yet. I'm sure it will be super expensive. But it would replace your kit lens and that 35mm f/1.8

I expect $2K to 2.5K. They know this is a game changer and I expect them to price this accordingly.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a full frame body + lenses upgrade from a D7000 but this will make me re-think my upgrade path - at least for another year or so.

I'm still looking towards full frame. I do wish this just wasn't for crop bodies. I played with the new 35 mm for a bit a few weeks ago and it is just such a nice piece.

Given the way current lenses are priced I'd expect to see it competing with Canon's 17-55 f/2.8 price wise. Maybe a little more. A lot will depend on how sharp it really is wide open.

That is a very good point indeed. The Canon is sharp wide open at 2.8. If you have to stop down the Sigma 1.8 much to get a sharp photo, that advantage is completely gone.

The other angle to that is, Sigma put out their new 35mm f/1.4. Many reviews have said that it is much sharper than what Nikon or Canon put out and is nearly half the price. However, it's still a $900 lens.

I'm just happy to have my old $400 30mm f/1.4. No tough decisions needed.

Sigma really does seem to be going high end lately. It will be interesting to find out what their price point is on this.

Do you know if it has IS? That was another thought I had. The Canon has IS, so if the Sigma doesn't, then there's at least another stop difference. I can handhold that Canon at shutter speeds I never would have dreamed possible with my terribly shaky hands.

Looks very intriguing.

Since this is a third party, crop-sensor lens, I can't see it being priced above $1,999. It is really intriguing and definitely has game-changer potential, but I cannot imagine there being a market for a $2k+ crop sensor lens.

My bet is for it to be sold right around $1,500.
