Should we expect to have pictures taken of ourselves while on vacation as well? Like tabloids do???

Well, if nothing else, Im thought of as a celebrity, of sorts. :goodvibes

That still doesn't answer the question. People must read the taboids. They have been in business for years. People talk about them all the time and as I said we KNOW them. Why would it be harder for people to do it on an anonymous internet site? I was basically saying the same you did a couple posts back. I'm not saying I agree w/ the way people are on sites.

By the way, while I'm at Disney or any other public place, I'll try to keep you out of my pictures ;) whereas you won't be expecting it. But don't hold me responsible if it happens :rolleyes1 :cool2:

Girl, if you see me, Ill be more then happy to stop and take a picture with you - as well as do an autograph. ;)

Anything posted on the internet is subject to being discussed or yes, even ridiculed and sometimes even ripped to shreds on other internet sites. Which is exactly why we would all be well advised to carefully consider anything we post here or any other place on the web.

I am an adult and as such, am fully cognizant of those possibilities. I would hope that other adults here are as well.

Most of all, I assume full responsibility for anything I post. Even the really stupid things I’ve posted from time to time. I don't need anyone here or elsewhere to protect me from the "bullies". I have never been punished on another site for something stupid I’ve posted here.

This thread was about the changes in the CB lately. Many us who were here when the change happened can feel the difference. Some of us don't like it and others obviously do. The sad fact though is that it really doesn’t matter. It was their right to do it and it simply does not matter how any of us feel about it. Maybe that’s the saddest part of all for those of us felt some affinity with what we considered our little online community.

To all those gleefully happy about the changes, I now invite you to take your best shot. One thing you need not worry about is that I will hit that little red triangle in retaliation. I assure you that will never happen. That is the coward's line of defense and not something I would ever do just because you disagreed with me.

I agree with what is being said and I understand it.

The funny part to me is that years ago, the boards were a lot of fun, a close knit community (no real clique threads back then, everyone just joined in), and often people came very close to crossing the invisible line.

Those people were very funny, a bit naughty, but also vague. They stayed in trouble and back then the joke was 'the Big Red Button". Those posters were CLEVER. They drove the mods crazy and back then, the mods had a lot more power than todays mods.

Then came the purge, I guess, and the other board was board as a place to do those "almost crossing the line" funny posts. But, with no rules there, the board got out of control and FAST! Then the ridicule stuff started happening and it was quite shocking and very ugly. A lot of people have been very hurt there. of course, now we're all internet savvy and know that what we say can and will be used against us, so to speak. However, I think the other board is kinder today than it used to be. Either that or there are so many people posting that it is hard to keep it all straight. I do think that through the years we've all hurt each other way too much--but that is just MHO.

Anyway, with the DIS CB not the same for many posters (back then), came new DISers and I suppose those new DISers have gone through a change of posters just like the first group. And now, people are saying "It isn;t the same, it isn't the same!" No, it is not the same. For many of us, it hasn't been the same in many years but the board goes on and you roll with the punches and enjoy RL too.

Why should anyone be ridiculing ANYONE? Why is that even necessary? Aren't we all human? Aren't the majority of us adults? Would we want our children walking around ridiculing people just because they don't like them, or don't agree with what they say? It's very bizarre to watch grown people ripping others to shreds. ESPECIALLY when it gets to the point of making fun of their appearance. I didn't realize I was posting amongst so many Supermodels and Gods.:confused3

It's amazing that I have to tell my middle school child that NO, people don't stop being stupid in middle school, I see it daily on the web. He's shocked, and so am I.

I think it is MORE than pitiful when grown people feel the need to belittle and laugh at people like preteens. I don't choose to be around that element in my real life and certainly won't choose it on an internet board.

Probably very sage advice Buckalew11. Easier said than done, but still, very wise advice.

I used to keep logging in here from work and getting caught up in discussions and not getting my work done! That doesn't happen much anymore, so something has changed. I can scan the first page or two, read a few interesting-looking threads, and leave, within a few minutes.

Part of it too is that I just don't feel like investing too much in this board, because it's just too unstable in its membership base and enforcement of rules. I'm just not comfortable putting too much of myself out there on this board anymore, and that wasn't always the case.

The difference may be kind of subtle, but it's there.

Very well said, I agree completely.

:thumbsup2 You go girl! Awesome post. :worship:

Really? Hmph... so like you shouldnt leave your house, in case someone may ridicule you? Interesting ....

Much of the ridiculing (wonderful word, BTW - ridicule another human being - nice!) was less of what was posted, but more of personal attacks on posters.

I, for one, thought we were all adults. To think it's enteratinment to 'ridicule' another human being, a fellow poster on a board pertaining to something you both have in common, is pretty freaking sad.

It's that simple? Please.... who made any of the 'ridiculers' God??

Too funny.

Too funny? no not really. And it's not even right. But it is reality.

Leaving your home is nothing like posting about how your BiL ran off with the nanny, cleaned out the checking account, stole the neighbor's food stamps, and scammed mousekeeping for an extra roll of toilet paper. When you put your business out on the internet - you've made it a topic for discussion and you can't always control what people are saying. Or even which people are talking about it.

Frankly, who cares if a bunch of people you've never met, will probably never meet and don't even know your real name are talking about you on some other website?

This line of thinking is exactly what's so annoying. Why does everything have to be a battle? Why is it always something to get riled up and knock each other down about? It's like you virtually put up your dukes. It makes me laugh. I have no "shots to take" at you. I said I like the boards. I am happy here and feel like "most" of my personal bullies seem to be gone. I don't know exxxxcatly what they did but I don't really care. All I know is that for me personally it's nice to be able to enter what I feel are very interesting threads, and actually be able to talk to people with immediately having 15 people jump down your throat to call you names, or tell you how stupid and horrible you must be.

That's all.......and that's really what the OP was talking about, whether or not the board feels different.........not another thread for people with personal vendettas to come in and start arguing......but that's what ALWAYS happens with threads like this. So much bitterness.

I said my piece so I guess I'll leave. I've never used the red button....in fact I don't even know where it is. I am just done with the inane, and choose to leave.

Adios!

Wasn't Princess Diana killed by dregs trying to get photos for the tabloids? There are many arguments that can be made about tabloids and yellow/slanderous journalism. Just because tabloids are out there doesn't mean they add worth to any society.

I'm sure we all glance at the tabloid headlines while waiting in line at the grocery store (BATBOY! Alien abduction! Branjolina falls in the airport! "Let me help you up" says concerned Brad!), but there are those out there who read tabloids religiously. Most of the comments I've read here about those who do weren't very flattering.

Uh, because people have feelings and they're human and it actually hurts! I think the internet has desensitized a whole lot of people -- they forget that the person on the other side of the screen is a real person with feelings.

All I know is that many interesting people were dumped during the purge and this place has definately suffered for it. JMHO

If, by "interesting", you mean "near-total d-bags", then we are in agreement. :thumbsup2 But we still don't see eye to eye about the DIS "suffering for it" part.

I thought personal attacks were not allowed on the DIS.

I don't think its fair to lump everyone gone in the dregs of society. Not everyone ridiculed or otherwise spoke unfavorably of people here. I've read other sites and some people there actually defended some here. So just like people here are complaining that no one here left is fun, its not fair to say that everyone that is gone were horrid.
Regardless I think in time things will turn around. I'm seeing a lot of new names with recent join dates so hopefully some are working their way back here and I appreciate TPTB letting them return. Everyone deserves a second chance after all.

I've got to disagree with the internet desensitizing people. All the internet has really done is expose people to what was already happening to them. If they were talking in real life like they sometimes do here then folks were talking behind their back, probably still are in real life. All the internet did was introduce a new group of people basically doing the same.

In addition, I think the internet has allowed people to "share" things they might not ever share in real life but whose fault is it if a person shares really strange stories or ridiculous situtations and others talk about it? Personally I think the desensitized people were the individuals who told folks "Hey there's a board out there and folks are making fun of your post." Why do that to a person? Oh for the drama -- that's right. How did that individual who shared the link know? Oh they read there, I mean really how else would they know. Why share the link? Becuase they don't really care about the persons feelings, they just want to see what will happen.

If you truly are a person who is worried about what folks think or say about you then really you should be careful what you post on line. I personally believe that some folks enjoy the attention good or bad and purposely post inflammatory posts.

Back to the original topic - I agree the board has changed. I hardly visit that much at all these days. I miss the old days of fun bantering, the scarasm and witty responses. Now if you post something you believe to be witty or funny you can be reported for "hurting someone's feelings." IMHO It's gone from an grown up world that was fun and stimulating to a pollitically correct kindergarten.
