Maybe it is me, but I don't feel as at home here as I used to. Are people staying away after the "incident" or are things just changing as things are wont to do? On page one I counted 19 big clique threads. Maybe if I joined one of them I would feel more at home, but that has never been how I have done things. I always loved the little threads. I have learned so much about all different aspects of life in the US and many other places.
Sorry if I am bumming you out, if anyone is reading this, I just feel nostalgic for the "old days".

Sad to say, I agree. I appreciate your reposting Sonya's original post. It bothers me when the totally unnecessary hijacks start.

Hmmmm.....so we are still spiralling into the me me me thread. I have to admit to a hefty ego myself, but am aghast at the posts from today.

At least the old hijacks were funny, this one is a pathetic attempt to distract from the original topic of this thread because, with the exception of one group of people, the overwhelming opinion seems to be that there has been a change in these boards and not for the better.

Just because people post inane garbage, don't think the people here are too stupid to recognize the intent. Some people here have made some pretty strong enemies....I don't think they're helping their case any. Let's face it...those who know the details know where the crap went down. We also know exactly where the inequities lie.

Ditto - I wondered how a profile could just happen to change and the poster could get on under some oelse's screen name. If CR did in fact ever equal JJ.

CR never equaled JJ. JJ has no idea about how or why that happened. She was totally innocent. I was assured it was an innocent mistake by a moderator who I trust and respect. If it had be any different I was YAGEing. The bannings were bad enough and when that happened to JJ, I was super POed. I am hoping the person shot straight w/me. I have no reason to not trust them.

"Little glitches" like a name change in a profile don't just happen with computer programs as sophisticated as this board uses.

It could be many things - but an accident like that requires human intervention.

You are right, they do not just happen. I was told human error caused it by a very kind human being. I chose to believe they were honest with me.

Back in January or so I decided I wanted to make better use of my time and became involved in a lot of different activities and projects.. Now that I'm back up at the lake (and have a little more free time) I'm popping in on a more regular basis, but I find a lot of topics that used to interest me no longer do..

It's still a nice place - lots of nice people - and a good source of info - but RL activities are my number one priority now and I know I feel a lot better since I've stopped sitting at my computer for hours and hours every single day..

That would be because the Mods do a superhuman job of cleaning up the namecalling. Whenever you see posts disappearing, that's why.

I saw a post disappear that asked you your secret for not getting banned here when its clear that you read over there which against the rules.

There was no name calling just a request for information.

Now how long will it take for this post to disappear?

Me too! I am a SAHM now and my youngest is coming up on 6 months. My three ladies keep me very busy!!! I am happy to say I am much more physically active these days then I was at the office. I spend my time outside and by the evening I am usually exhausted and winding down. Anyway, all of this is to say I do miss some of the people I have come to know over the years but I guess it's the same with any group - people change.

Thanks for posting Lara....you are right, the boards have changed and not for the better it seems. I am really baffled as to what seem to be "teacher's pets"....guess I'll never fully understand.

That's exactly what it is, teacher's pets.

I'm just a bystander. I don't hang out on the other board, I was never friends (nor enemies) with anyone who was banned. I do miss some of the posters, though, as some of them were very well-spoken and their posts really made me think, whether I agreed with them or not. Now it seems there aren't as many intelligent discussions, just more inane generalizations and name-calling.

And it seems there are certain people who are allowed to be outright mean, while others get posts deleted for daring to question the "pets".

I'm still coming here, but less and less. I've been through board break-ups before, they seem to happen every couple of years on every site. That's why I don't really attempt to get close to people on-line. So it's not a big loss to me, but I'm sorry for the people who have more invested in this site. It's not the same place anymore. Not by a long shot.

I am still confused as to why it happened-out of all the hundreds of posters on the DIS, why CarlyRoach suddenly became jerseyjanice? It's just rather odd.

I didn't get a "why" really. And it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. This particular moderator is someone I believe I can trust. I had no reason not to trust so I chose to give the mod the benefit of the doubt.

The only difference was my staying or going though. I'm sure Pete doesn't care about that but like I said, for me, it was the principle of the thing. JJ is a very good friend and for her name to pop up in Carly's screenname place at that time (which was about a week after the bannings started) was bothersome to me. It was an odd coincidence given the history and I KNOW JJ is not CR and never was so if it was sort of freakish game someone was playing, I certainly wasn't laughing.

"Discussing" posts isn't the word for it. Ridiculing, criticizing and badmouthing posters who post on the DIS CB and BB is a more apt phrase. Some try to spin it as harmless, but it's not harmless to the people it's being done to. Hence the bannings, hence the explanation.

Like I said before, these things are cyclical. The DIS will be back to normal probably around the time the kids go back to school.

After I read this, I went back to read the explanation from the webmasters about the bannings. I just wanted to refresh my memory of what I understood the whole thing to be about.

If I may ask you a question, how do you know what they are talking about? According to the explanation, "sideline spectators" can be banned also. Are you reading over there but not posting? I just don't understand how you can report how they are posting these horrible things unless you are reading over there too. Isn't that technically against what was stated in the explanation?

Sorry to ask this again. I've been reading this whole thread and I see you have been here to comment on things. But you haven't answered my question. I like to think it just lost in the shuffle of how quickly things were moving for a while. I don't want to think you were "being rude" and "ignoring" another poster. I was wondering the same thing. I visit a lot of Disney related sites. How will I know if I'm on the evil Disney site if I don't know what it is?

I agree. The bannings were supposedly to get rid of the mean folk, but it still seems like there are a few floating around here. And it does appear that the chosen few can say almost anything and be OK, but others get tossed off the boards for asking why.

I really don't care what rules the folks in charge make for the site, just make them apply to everyone.

And yes, it's not the same around here. Just typing this makes me wonder if I'll get to play here anymore. I don't like the whole walking on eggshells thing.
