My DFi and I are (well, me actually. I'm the planner of vacations :) ) planning on going to Florida for a beach vacation next May (probably the first week). We know we want to go on the Gulf side but don't want to go farther than Siesta Key (we'll be going to WDW in December of 08 so I don't want to drive to the Keys or Miami/South Beach). We were originally thinking Clearwater but after watching a Travel Channel special that said it's a 'Boater's Paradise" and seeing how beautiful Siesta Key is, I think I'd rather go there (my DFi LOVES boats and would talk about them the ENTIRE time I would be trying to relax on the beach :) ). I want to rent a condo/house on the beach in a secluded area but still within a 30 minute-hour drive of entertainment. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks!

All I can say is siesta Key was beautiful! The sand was like smooth powder. That's where I want to go on our next vacation.

Siesta Key is gorgeous. And there are several places you can rent right on the Key. Try a google search for Siesta Key rentals or something like that. :goodvibes

There are loads of places to rent on the key (condo's resorts, etc) and you can rent boats right off the south bridge. There is lots to do here.....
Jungle Gardens
Ringling Museum
Selby Gardens
The Antique Car Museum
Van Wezel
Players Theatre
shopping on St Armands Circles - lots of places to eat...

on the Key I would hit Daiquiri Deck, Captain Curts, The Broken Egg (bfast, and it won't be around much longer!:( )

there are two grocery stores on the island - Crescent Beach Grocery and Siesta Market --- but there is a Publix just off both bridges to the island with Gulf Gate Publix being very close (south end of the island!). The prices will be cheaper than on the island for any type of groceries you need.

lillygator-thanks so much! Those links are so helpful! We are planning on eating most of our meals in the condo/house so hitting that Publix will be a must do. I'll be sure to ask you any questions if I can think of any :). Thanks again!:thumbsup2

Thank everyone else to for the help too! :goodvibes
