we are going to disney in june and wanted to stay a night in siesta key. anyone know of any reasonable, family oriented places to stay. if not on the beach, then within walking distance. thanks in advance.

There is a HOliday Inn right across the street from the beach on Siesta Key. When I lived down there, I had interns who had parents stay there. They said it was nice and not too expensive. Oh, and the pool for the Holiday Inn is on the roof so you can swim in the pool with a great view of the Gulf OR cross the street and swim in the Gulf. This particular hotel is at the top of the Key, close to Sarasota. I know there are other hotels further down the key but I don't know the names or any details.

Last September we stayed in a 1-Bedroom suite with full kitchen at Sara Sea Beach Resort. It's not "on" the beach, but almost. A very short walk down a sandy path and you're there - no roads to cross. It's one of those really old mom and pop type places and it did seem a little "snug" for a suite, but it was very recently remodeled and was very comfortable. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Oh, there were 4 of us - 2 adults and 2 kids (6 & 10). 1 bed and 1 sofabed.

Look at Tropical Shores, Tropical Palms. We stayed at Tropical Shores one year and liked it. It was November so not a lot of beach time; the kids did use the heated pool. It is about an 80 yard walk to the beach and you are on the beach side so no crossing roads. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Not sure if they have a minimum stay. We got the 2bed one room with kitchenette for a fam of 5. The sofa pulled out and since we were only in there in the evenings it was plenty big.

When you say beach,is this a lake?Never been to Disney? Is this a far drive to the parks?

this is an actual beach on the gulf of mexico. it is about a two hour plus drive from the parks. each time we go to disney, we choose a new place to visit and we really enjoyed siesta key and would like to stay for a night instead of just an afternoon :)

We stayed there for one night last Aug. It was very nice and clean with great beds and a pull out leather sofa. It has a full kitchen, but no diswasher. We only used the refrigerator to keep our drinks cold. It's a very short walk to the beach without crossing the highway. Beautiful part of the beach.

You can read reviews on tripadvisor.com.

How far is Siesta Key from Disney?

The above-poster said it was about 2 hours -but I think it must depend on how you drive, because I live in that area, and make it to Disney in less than 1.5 hours, lo! :rotfl: (I have a bit of a lead foot).

closest help I can be is to mention the Hyatt in Sarasota, just off the casueway bridge to Lido Beach...about 3-4 miles north of Siesta Key ( well, a longer drive just the way the road winds...but general area)Anyway, we really like the Hyatt. I do know of a great place to get breakfast on Siesta Key village, the Broken Egg!:thumbsup2

Gulf Coast. around Sarasota, South of Tampa. It is just beautiful!!! Was on the top 10 beaches list again on one of those TV channels. No shells just powdery non-hot white sand.

Friends of ours just stayed there over spring break and brought back loads of shells! Pretty ones too! They stay at Tropical Shores and love it.
