Sierra Computer Games

Phantasmagoria was the best!! That saw through the head at the end though was pretty disturbing for its time, especially if you were like me and kept screwing up the sequence so you got it again and again lol.

And don't forget about Jane Jensen. I still think the Gabriel Knight series was the absolute pinnacle of what adventure games could be. Le Serpent Rouge in Gabriel Knight 3 was everything, and I'm still bitter that 4 never got made.
Phantasmagoria was another game my mom liked and she solved it and I used to play that game too and it was really cool. The scene I remember a lot was the one where the girl goes into one of the bedrooms and lies down on the bed when the bed suddenly sprouts arms and tries to grab her and she nearly gets swallowed but then she wakes up and realizes it was just a dream. That scene in Phantasmagoria is really scary. Does anyone also remember Lost In Time as well? That was another good game that Sierra made about a woman who wakes up on a ship and tries to learn more about her identity

Sounds like we had very similar tastes in games! I confess, I don't remember the Gabriel Knight story line, but I do remember playing and loving those, too.

You also reminded me of the idiosyncrasies that I remember fondly, though they could be annoying at the time. Getting the same error sequence, or having to watch the same cut scene over and over. Having to switch out discs periodically, because the whole game didn't fit on one. Getting to a point in the game where you needed something from an earlier scene and having no way to go back (looking at you, Leisure Suit Larry)....
Those errors that used to happen all the time with Sierra games were called Panics and if you got a Panic the message would always tell you to call Sierra for help. Of course my parents never did call Sierra when we got Panics but my mother disliked those when trying to solve Sierra games. Another thing my mother would do was call the Sierra Hint Line for game hints and she would spend money trying to get help to solve Gabriel Knight and my dad and I used to tease Mom about it. But my favorite Sierra game was King's Quest 8 because I thought the guy you played named Connor was so cute and handsome and I loved Connor's accent and I used to watch my mom play King's Quest 8 just to see Connor

So the night we got to the last disc on Phantasmagoria was, naturally, dark and stormy. Got the message to insert Disc 7. Did so and the last chapter started. Played for about 15 minutes and then got the famous blue screen of death. Rebooted the computer and reinserted Disc 6 to continue from the last save. Then the game KEPT GOING. Played far past where we had previously been told to insert Disc 7, with Disc 6 still in the drive. I confess we freaked out, shut the computer down, and called Sierra in a panic. The guy couldn't explain it at all. We didn't end up finishing the game until the next afternoon, with bright sunlight streaming in!

The game I spent the most money on the hint line for wasn't Sierra. It was Interplay's Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster. Loved that game, but the puzzles were soooo obscure and confusing.

If you can find it look up King's Quest 8 Mask Of Eternity and you can see why it's a great game. It's actually good because it has a romantic storyline and when you watch the intro of the game you'll understand why it has a romantic storyline and the more you get into the game it's so enchanting. My mom began her love of the King's Quest games when she bought King's Quest 7 and that game was so magical because the animation was almost Disney-like and really felt like a animated movie. I don't know why Sierra changed the animation for King's Quest 8 but King's Quest 7 was a magic experience in itself
