Sick of the upper class bashing

I think this was in reference to me. I have posted on the Coach girlies thread and I recently made some home renovations (and have posted on the remodeling thread). Heaven forbid I reinvested in one of my family's investments.

And I posted about my new house (I think).

Lots of people post about great bargains or cool new shoes/cars/whatever.

But honestly it's not a case of what is said, it's HOW it's said. There are ways to share your excitement about a new purchase or home upgrade or whatever without actually boasting about it and trying to sound superior.

Talking about your exclusive golf course community,

It's a nice neighborhood, but the word "exclusive" is yours. I never said that.

your McMansion,

My 2900 s/f home is a McMansion now. Right. And again, your word, I never said that.

your exclusive sports car,

:confused3 I drive a Saturn. Actually I have two of them. DH drives a Prius. Where's the sports car? If it's in my garage, it's hiding well.

renting "Lambo's",

Uh, renting a Lambo was a joke--maybe you missed the part where I said "If we win the lottery." I'm not spending $2400 a day to rent a car.

staying in $1200 a night hotels, and on and on.

Uh, I said I'd like to stay in the $800 range--have your priced resorts in Hawaii? You can't book the Country Inn for $45 a night.

Coupled with the way you talk down to various people, their communities, their choices, and on and on..

I have cautioined people against areas in the greater Orlando area which are having problems with crime and declining property values. When people ask for advice and it's given, it might not be what they want to hear. That's life.

Like MJ said, it's more often not what you say, it's how you say it, the delivery. I'm surprised you can't see it.

I'm surprised you and you high school clique can't see how immature you all appear with your gang up style on various posters.

And no, not hitting close to home. I did buy a new pair of Reebok running shoes at the outlet mall last year though!

:confused3

Wasn't there something about the Saturn being ultra-exclusive-hoity-toity-first-edition or somthing like that? Or do I have you confused with somebody else?

Actually I had posted about how excited I was to get my new car, which I had put a deposit on and waited to get for over a year. I guess being excited about a new car is no longer allowed?

Yes, other people brag about many other things. It's obnoxious when they do it too. I'll bet if they do it enough, somebody will call them out for it.

So, let me make sure I understand. Compulsively "one-upping" other people is a better use of one's life?

:confused3

That is the point that some seem to miss completely.

I think the term "Lambo" is a pretentious shorthand for Lamborghini. No harm in buying it, driving it, renting it. More power to you if you have it like that. Just understand that the delivery of your expereince to common folk might just be off putting. Maybe save the whole thing for a "Lambo" lovers board...

It was not meant towards you. Frankly I've never read the Coach thread past the first two or three posts because it doesn't interest me, and I didn't know you posted there. I was not aware you had recently made any home improvements. (Or I had forgotten.) My comments weren't about anyone in particular, just generalizing.

It's actually a very small number of people with a high school clique mentality that obviously have nothing better to do with their lives.

I am not picking on you. I would PM you, if I could (see no signature) ;) . Many times I agree with your point but not your delivery. I am sure you work hard, as does your husband and son, buy things at great prices (I see you often on the budget boards) and have nice things you paid for yourself but you are coming across as bragging lately. I am sure it is in the delivery and if I met you IRL I would not get that impression. Maybe step away from the tube and show a close friend some of your recent posts (that others object to) and maybe he/she can show you how to make the same point and not come across as bragging.

I know that sometimes my delivery can be off, I'm not an English major, but when others make negative comments about a post that I did not mean to sound that way I try to see where the problem in the post was and not repeat it again. If I feel it is needed then I will post an apology.

OK - I must not be rich because I have no clue what a Lambo is.:rotfl2:

As for the McMansion's being over 3000 sq ft, then over 1/2 the city lives in one. I think that is a silly number.

Kristine

A Lambo is slang fo Lamborghini. Nice car, saw one on my way to work the other morning, but way out of my price range--I couldn't afford the premium gas for it. :rotfl:

What happened to the Roadster? :confused3

And again, I never said I was renting a Lambo--and I won't apologizing for using that term which is the common slang for it these days. I guess that unless we are talking about shopping at super discount stores and staying at the dew drop motel it's not allowed on the DIS these days because God forbid it might upset someone. :confused3

Do you mean my Saturn SKY Roadster--the official name of the car? I have it. It's a SATURN. It's a four cylinder car. The term "roadster" describes ANY car with no rear seats.

Ahhh OK then. I never thought about it because that kind of car is never going to enter my realm of reality, ever.:)

Looks like a sports car to me:

I don't think those that live in them call them McMansions. I think it is seen as a derogatory term.

Oobviously, you're free to do what you want, when you want. But don't be surprised (and I know your not), when others take exception with your delivery.

I've seen many an unsollicited comment from you bashing others homes, communities, life choices.

So with everyone posting how it is rude to talk about what you have (and seem to be coming down on ducklite), why is it OK to post about your new Coach Purse that you bought? Is that not considered bragging? I mean, the fact that there is an actual thread to do just that kind of makes your argument hypocritical.

I asked about this a few hundred posts ago but I think it got lost in the fray. What is a "Coach girlies"?

Thast is your argument? She has said a million times that it is a SATURN! Who gives a flying flip if it looks like a sports car or not. God, the make some Hyundi's that look like a Lexus. SO WHAT?

I have to go to Target now, I am getting a little to heated for my taste.

I have never bragged about my Coach handbags. Mostly I have posted on the thread telling others I liked what they bought or saying which ones I liked better. For the record: yes I have three Coach handbags, a mini-skinny and a wristlet. All of those except for one handbag (that I bought with a 25% off coupon) were gifts.

There is a thread that people who like Coach handbags post on. I haven't posted on it for a while.

yes that is what I mean. You said "Where's The SportsCar?" like you couldn't imagine what people are talking about so I was thinking maybe you traded down to a boring Saturn Sedan or something.

Thanks for the car terminology lesson but until my life reaches the point where I don't have to install a car seat, it just wouldn't be practical.
