Ok, I cannot stand this anymore and just have to get it out. Warning: today is a major PMS day.

I am so sick of seeing people on this board making snide and rude comments towards the upper class. And no, I am not upper class. But seriously, why does everyone think that they are selfish, money hungry savages? Maybe they worked their butt off in order to make what they make. They deserve to drive whatever car they want and live in whatever house they choose without being judged by it. Can you honestly say that if you had that kind of money you would not live in a nice house and drive a nice car? I sure as heck cannot say that. I would LOVE to! To me, people that have to constantly rag on these people are just jealous and I am tired of seeing their comments.

Ok - I am done now. And I am sure I did not make a ton of friends with this but this is JMHO.

Actually, I find just the opposite to be true. Those living paycheck-to-paycheck (or worse) seem to be ragged on the most.

I thought most of us here on the DIS were "upper class?":)

I choose to live what might be considered below my means, but don't see how that means I'm bashing someone who makes other choices they can afford. I'd be more likely to "bash" someone who was making choices I thought they couldn't afford!;)

This is the DIS. Everyone and every decision is bashed at least a little.

I can't recall ever seeing Gandhi bashed. That's about it. And that just may be a thread I've missed.

Let me clarify a little bit. I too, live below me means. That is just how I was brought up.

Anyway, I am talking about the people who use little names for their houses they live in and cars they drive. The people who constantly are referring to them being greedy or selfish for the things they do and the beliefs they have. I just think that it is sad.

and those who have failed to plan for every conceivable financial problem that might ever come up in anyone's life.

From what I've seen, people who have reached what would be considered upper class have done it by a combination of hard work and some fortunate circumstances. You've got to work hard to get that education and keep that good job, but more often than not there was some good luck that helped you along the way. Being born in the right circumstances, being in the right place at the right time, meeting the right folks to network with...all that stuff comes into play.

I think what disturbs a lot of people here is that once some folks reach that upper class-they lose the capacity to say "There but for the Grace of God go I".

I don't know.
I am still trying to understand how some people are here.

I do not think there is a lot of upper class bashing.

I just do not like people who think ONLY for themselves at the expense of others. Do they have the right to do so .... absolutely!

For instance I can pretty much buy what I want. I can afford a Hummer, but would rather get something better on emissions and gas mileage. I can afford a huge house, but would rather use only what I need. I tend to make decisions based on my likes but also try to take into account the impact of my actions.

So basically, I make fun of selfish people.

I definitely agree with you on this although when they post that along with the fact that they're going on vacation and don't know how they'll pay the mortgage I can't feel too sorry for them.

OP, I honestly don't know what sparked your thread because I haven't seen any bashing of either end of the money tree except for those thread like I stated above.

I guess I must be reading the wrong posts because I only see the opposite, too ... :confused3

One particular one comes to mind during a discussion about health care. I won't quote it :scared: but sometimes I'll be driving and think about it and almost CRASH my car.... :car:

Link please. I have no idea what you're talking about :confused3 Most of what I see isn't really bashing, but pretty wild assumptions made about the lower/middle class.

I totally agree!

That being said, I feel the DIS is a bashing free-for-all and no one is safe.

That reminds me of a Robin Williams joke about a guy at a bar in Bombay... :rotfl:

Oh, if you go to India, LOTS of people don't care for Gandhi... :rotfl:

Well, maybe I am being a little oversensitive today or something. I did just have lunch and I feel much better.:lmao:

Anyway, what I think I am trying to say is that people refer to people homes as McMansions and they drive such and such car.....it is all said with such distaste and I cannot understand it.

Any political thread you will surely see it. The "rich" people and their blah blah blah. As if just because people have money, they are the devil or something. Because don't you know that all "rich" people are selfish corporate hogs? That is just the vibe I get.

Maybe there is poverty trashing as well but I certainly don't see people referring to them with such distaste or at least calling their cars and homes little names. Maybe I am wrong?:confused3

Actually I do live in a nice (modest) house and drive a nice (modest) car. There are some things about both that I would change, but even if I had all the money in the world, I'd never buy a gas guzzling SUV or a McMansion.

And anyway, the people who do have those things aren't necessarily "upper class." Lots of people own things they can't really afford.
