Sick of the upper class bashing

I don't know what class I am, but I definately know its not upper-middle. I'm probably lower-middle working class. (if thats even a category.) lol

I'll be at the USF/WV game Saturday, a total sellout. your guys are looking pretty tough going into this thing. I hope they can stand the humidity ;)

I have used the MCMansion term many times and in the same way as you describe it. To me, MCMansions are large homes that are built on small lots, and they destroy the character of a street/neighborhood.

And they are not a single architecture but many thown together.

I think it comes down to poor people not wanting to be told that part of the reason they are poor is due to bad life choices, and rich people being told that part of the reason they're rich is good luck. ;)

where I live I don't think Val's house would be considered a Mansion. It looks like an updated version of a house in the style that fits the neighborhood.

Crankyshank's house is more like what we refer to when we say McMansions. It is way too big for the lot. It looks like it needs to be on about 10 acres with a gate. It is just out of place and obnoxious in that neighborhood.

Given his job, DH and I run with alot of people who consider themselves upper class. Sometimes WE think we're upper class. We have money, send our kids to Private School, a nice enough house, go on vacations.

Then we butt into the real upper class at some work related function at the Country Club and it blows my JcPenney clearance rack outfit out of the water.

One thing I've learned, for the most part the "real" upper class don't talk alot about their "stuff." "Stuff" is just taken for granted and they aren't interested. There is also a pretty good chance that if you bought it at the mall, it's middle class.

No worries from me. We have an upset to avenge! :thumbsup2

I agree, it's either going to be a tight game or a total blowout by WV. their offense is way too explosive this year. we'll see what happens.

back to bashing people who lie about their incomes and possessions to strangers on the internet........

Most states have a plan for uninsured children that cost parents about $50 per year and cover major medical and a well child visit. (If a parent can't afford $50 a year then they probably qualify for medicaid.) Most if not all county health departments offer free or low cost immunizations for kids up to age 12. Most public schools offer free physicals for children who do not have a family doctor. The programs are already there, people are just not using them for a variety of reasons. I do not believe that taxpayers should be forced to pay for additional taxes for redundant programs.

Don't be too certain about that.

I don't qualify for any help. But, I cannot afford health insurance. I do not live beyond my means. I just have expenses such as $8 for a bottle of soap (no other choice), allergy medicine (OTC), etc that leaves very little if any money over from my paycheck.

I also know families that make just over the poverty limit but can't afford anything extra. One family the husband makes too much and the wife cannot work for medical reasons. The don't own a house, drive a single beat up old car, don't go out to dinner unless others are paying, buy the generic food at the cheapest grocery stores, etc. they do not live beyond their means. But expenses for her medical problems and expenses for all 3 kids keep them living pretty poorly.

If you have 5 acres and your house is 35 years old, it's not a McMansion. McMansions have no land and are fairly new.

I need to know if mine is a McMansion. DH and I custom built it 17 years ago. It is in the McMansion square footage listed earlier but on many acres. We have a geothermal A/C and it is well insulated (we are too cheap to pay high utility bills).

probably not.

But if it will make you feel special, we'll call it one. :lmao:

Let me clarify a little bit. I too, live below me means. That is just how I was brought up.

Anyway, I am talking about the people who use little names for their houses they live in and cars they drive. The people who constantly are referring to them being greedy or selfish for the things they do and the beliefs they have. I just think that it is sad.

Kristine

Do you mean like the neighbors at work who both drive a lexus, stop in at work about two hours a day and only pay their employee about 8 dollars an hour? The person who is actualy making all the money for them...

And when the other employee was diagnosed with cancer she was soon fired because she could not manage enough work hours while doing chemo and everything else.

Great people...

How about the other neighbors that charge so much for services that they have three houses, two planes etc... All because when people need their heat fixed in the middle of winter they must pay whatever it takes to get someone out to the house soon.

I do not think I know any of these nice rich people that you know.

How about the realtors that charge thousands per sale but nitpick my services for $25 off of a $300 bill. Or they go somehwere else. usually to a firm that does not have insurance like we have to pay for.

The mere mention of "acres" completely takes you out of the McMansion category

Oh but don't you know....if you are at that level then you deserve to be where you are because you made terrible life decisions, didn't foresee every single hurdle you may encounter in life and plan accordingly for them *in the case of the family with the wife who can't work* and are pond scum and not worth the trouble to help you out? We are slowly working towards a "screw you" mentality that's for sure!
