what's the starting family income level for 'upper-class'?
Upper-income--the top income level in the US--is about $340K.

This is the DIS. Everyone and every decision is bashed at least a little.
I can't recall ever seeing Gandhi bashed. That's about it. And that just may be a thread I've missed.
Mother Theresa has been safe as well, unless I missed that thread...
I don't know what class I am, but I definately know its not upper-middle. I'm probably lower-middle working class. (if thats even a category.) lol

I have used the MCMansion term many times and in the same way as you describe it. To me, MCMansions are large homes that are built on small lots, and they destroy the character of a street/neighborhood.

I'll be at the USF/WV game Saturday, a total sellout. your guys are looking pretty tough going into this thing. I hope they can stand the humidity![]()
No worries from me. We have an upset to avenge!![]()
Most states have a plan for uninsured children that cost parents about $50 per year and cover major medical and a well child visit. (If a parent can't afford $50 a year then they probably qualify for medicaid.) Most if not all county health departments offer free or low cost immunizations for kids up to age 12. Most public schools offer free physicals for children who do not have a family doctor. The programs are already there, people are just not using them for a variety of reasons. I do not believe that taxpayers should be forced to pay for additional taxes for redundant programs.

If you have 5 acres and your house is 35 years old, it's not a McMansion. McMansions have no land and are fairly new.
back to bashing people who lie about their incomes and possessions to strangers on the internet........

I need to know if mine is a McMansion. DH and I custom built it 17 years ago. It is in the McMansion square footage listed earlier but on many acres. We have a geothermal A/C and it is well insulated (we are too cheap to pay high utility bills).

Let me clarify a little bit. I too, live below me means. That is just how I was brought up.
Anyway, I am talking about the people who use little names for their houses they live in and cars they drive. The people who constantly are referring to them being greedy or selfish for the things they do and the beliefs they have. I just think that it is sad.

Don't be too certain about that.
I don't qualify for any help. But, I cannot afford health insurance. I do not live beyond my means. I just have expenses such as $8 for a bottle of soap (no other choice), allergy medicine (OTC), etc that leaves very little if any money over from my paycheck.
I also know families that make just over the poverty limit but can't afford anything extra. One family the husband makes too much and the wife cannot work for medical reasons. The don't own a house, drive a single beat up old car, don't go out to dinner unless others are paying, buy the generic food at the cheapest grocery stores, etc. they do not live beyond their means. But expenses for her medical problems and expenses for all 3 kids keep them living pretty poorly.
We are slowly working towards a "screw you" mentality that's for sure!
