Sick of the upper class bashing

Actually, those are not the people I am talking about and clearly you have an issue with these people you mention. But that does not mean that all people with money are like that and I am sorry that you know absolutely no nice rich people. My sister would be considered rich and she is one of the kindest, most generous people I know. But she lives in a big house and drives a nice car so I guess that makes her a beotch anyway. I just don't get it.

we had our eyes opened up a couple of years ago when our daughter started doing cheerleading at a different gym in Tampa. some of the nicest, down to earth people we've ever met here. then you go to their houses for cookouts and parties and realize they've got a runway, hangar, and three private aircraft in their backyard. ;)

but they never talk about it or play it up.

And they live in a tract-home in McMansionville.

I guess it's true...money can't buy taste.

I'm kidding, kinda. I also know some very wealthy people who are unassuming. They wouldn't live in a McMansion, though.

If I were rich, I think I'd move to the boonies and have a few hundred acres and a little cottage.

Is that such a horrible thing to aspire to? You get one life. At least a few minutes of it should be spent with your family.

I guess I don't see the glory in sacrificing your life and happiness for a few extra dollars and an earlier grave.

I think you missed the point. When you can't feed your kids, or don't have health insurance for them, or are in the process of being evicted because you can't pay the rent, then yes, it's time to sacrifice and take the second job to care for your family. It should not be up to taxpayers to do so for you.

Oh I know plenty of nice rich people. We have more than a few of the "Millionaire Next Door" types in our neighborhood. Just nice solid people ...

Money doesn't make you nice or not nice. That would be personality. Some people are just severely lacking in that department.

Being nice and kind has nothing to do with wealth, but with personality as you stated. We live in a wonderful neighborhood, and I know several very wealthy people who are extremely kind and generous.

ya think it has anything to do with Gator NATION?:thumbsup2 ;)

I guess I do not bash the class, just the people who I have information about. I try not to judge a class harshly in the same way that I do not give respect, globaly, until it is earned. As in "respect your elders". There are many that do not deserve it, OJ, ken lay etc...
Politeness is appropriate, and I am sure I have embarrasingly crossed that line when I have wrongly jumped to a conclusion on a few occasions, until you have facts to make a judgement.

ps congrats on the reply count! I'm jealous. Seriously, heheheheee

Holy crap. Working people who struggle aren't allowed lives. :sad2: And then we follow it up with...look at how I struggled. :snooty:

Again you are missing the point. People should take care of themselves before turning to the government for help.

Why is it necessary to bash or make fun of anyone? Does it accomplish anything other than make the person doing it feel superior? Maybe we should all just worry about how we live our own lives and let others live theirs the way they want unless they are harming someone else.

Some people really work hard and save their earnings, therefore they have money. It doesn't mean their better than the next person. We all live our lives, in different ways. :)

I know it's wikipedia but here is how it is defined there

Capitalist Class - Incomes over $500,000.00 and higher. Subclass of the Super Rich which make $350 million a year like celebrities, high power politicians etc and The Rich which have a net worth of over a million. In 2005 roughly 1% of Americans fell into this category.

Upper Middle Class - Incomes from the very high 5 figures to over $100,000 yr. Roughly 15% fell here.

Lower Middle Class - Incomes between $35,000 to $75,000.00 per year. Roughly 32% fell here.

Working Class - Incomes between $16,000 to $30,000.00 per year. Roughly 32% fell here as well.

Working Poor or Underclass - Incomes less than $16,000.00 per year and reliant on government aid. Roughly 20% fell here.

:scared1: I guess nationally we're lower middle class. :guilty: But take into account the area we live in and we're upper. :thumbsup2

Wouldn't that make the world a great place to live in?

Yeah, I guess I kinda did and kinda didn't. I think people should have to work, even if they are on assistance. I think that health insurance should be priced so that even people who are low income can afford it. I am 100% ok with federally subsidized health insurance because I believe that people should take care of each other.

All of that said, I don't think that it is noble to work so much that your family has more but they don't have you. Everyone knows the old saying about how no one on their deathbed looks back and wishes they had put more time in the office. People wish they took more time for the stuff that's really important.

Again you are missing the point. People should take care of themselves before turning to the government for help.

I am not the one missing the point. Sometimes people try as hard as they can and still fall short. Can we really expect people to give up families, health, etc. to make ends meet? :confused3 We are a prosperous enough nation to take care of these people who fall through the cracks. And I don't mean solely through taxpayer supported programs. I don't like the government deciding where my money goes anymore than you do.

I think that middle class revolt may be coming. I talk to more and more people who are sick and tired of paying taxes for the poor AND are sick and tired of rich people getting out of paying their fair share in taxes. The real burden of this economy is being laid square on the heads of those of us who are "rich" enough to pay taxes, but not rich enough to be able to hide our assets from the IRS.

Oh, believe you me, I do pay my fair share of the taxes and I am not in the top 1% according to the tax standards.

I am tired of paying taxes for the poor who will not even attempt to find/keep a 10.00 a hour job because welfare is not only easier but "hey, why should I work"? "I can stay at home and receive welfare, wic, food stamps and free child care."

This is a generational problem here in MS, with 14 and 15 year olds having babies, quitting school and having the grandparents who are only 30 years old helping them (with government assistance) of course.

I guess that would put us in upper middle, but I find it hard to believe that only 15% of people fall there. Really, how uncommon is it for someone to be making 50,000 married to someone making 50,000? It is household incomes right?

I find it really odd that there are more people making under 16,000 than over 100,000. That class must be made up largely by students.
