(sigh) I'm so tired of puke!! I'm finally feeling better from my bout with food poisoning...
So yesterday we head to a children's science museum in town with grandma, grandpa and my nephews (nephews are in from N.C.)

Afterwards we go to dinner and my teenage nephews thought it was funny to coax my 6 yr old into eating A LOT!! They kept making comments about how much he'd eaten and how HUGE of bites he was taking. My 6 yr old has some impulse control issues and, thought it was funny to stuff himself. He acted fine the rest of the evening. We put him to bed. Unfortunately, we put him to bed in OUR bed as he and ds like to fall asleep together and then be moved to their respective beds. Also, unfortunately, my sister called me just as I was heading to bed (11:30!!) and she talked for about an HOUR!!!

Dh and I head upstairs and are hit at the top of the landing with the overwhelming smell of puke! Ds has had another "dream puke" episode. He's puked and has NO idea he did it!!! It's not just a little. It's through and through our comforter, velour blanket, sheets, mattress pad and into the mattress. He's also managed to get some over the edge of the bed which soaked the bedskirt, the carpet AND the full length body pillow I use when I sleep. Dh, bless his heart, cannot deal with puke....it makes HIM puke. But he did so good helping me with the peripheral stuff as I barked out orders --"get lysol spray," "get paper towels," "get me the number to the nearest mental hospital!"

Oh, and to top it off, it hit 85 here yesterday and the only spare sheets I have for a queen size bed are FLANNEL!!!!!

Anyone have ANY idea how I wash a queen sized comforter in a regular washing machine??? Any advice would be most appreciated.

And, if anyone happens to see my nephews in St. Louis (grandma and grandpa are taking them to the Arch) please tell them THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was successfully able to wash a queen size comforter in my washing machine. I would use baking soda instead of detergent the first time. I started by folding it in half so it is long and narrow - in your case I would do it dirty side out. Then slowly and gently put it into the wash tub and loosely wind it around the center agitator.

Another option would be to shower it off first to rinse it, then go to the machine.

I hate when stuff like this happens!

WAAA! You mean I have to *touch* it?????!?!?!?!?!?! :( :earseek:

So it was food poisoning you had? Sorry if I missed something you posted. Also vey sorry for getting a chuckle at your expense. Food poisoning is awful! I do hope things smooth out for you! It seems like you've had your share of life's little problems getting in the way of things.
Puke! I can sympathise with that. I had a similar experience with DD at a wedding on Mackinac Island in a 100 year old hotel. It was October, and a very warm one at that, and all the heat went up to the third (our) floor. We had to sleep with the windows open and a window fan going. (No seperate controls for the heat/ AC, and since it was Oct., the AC had been shut off!) DD ate so much shrimp, cheese cake and fudge, that it had no place to go but up. I woke up to see a light on in the kids room, and went to investigate. (actually to yell at them for not being in bed)
DS was sound asleep, and DD was nowhere to be found. I checked their door, locked from the inside. The window was, of course, opened, so I panicked. As I ran to wake DH, I saw, sticking out from under her bed, little feet! My heart skipped a beat. I was so afraid I'd find her in serious trouble. I grabbed her and, to my relief, she was OK. To my disgust, she, and now I, was covered in puke! Evidently, she thought I would be angry with her for eating so much crap that she puked. Poor baby. She was only 5 at the time. She couldn't sleep in the bed, full of puke, so she grabbed her jacket, and curled up in that and crawled under the bed. The smell was enough to gag a maggot, and combined with the heat! Well, I was so angry. No housekeeping at that hour! We left it all there for them to get to when it was convenient for them!
Anyway, I guess we all have little tragedies, that in hindsight are little, but at the time...UGH! Hpoe today is getting better. BTW, I'm flying into St. Louis on Fri. I'll be looking for DN!;)

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

I've had the "eat so much that they puke" experience a few times with my DD-11. Fortunately, she usually is awake or if asleep wakes up and is a good aim! Unfortunately, we have also had the "dream puke" in Mommy's bed experience!!! UGH!!
:p :p :p :p

She threw up at DIS Con 2001 after eating dinner at Alfredo's, followed by many desserts at the Illuminations Dessert Party. She threw up after stuffing herself at an air show, then got angry because Daddy wouldn't let her go on any rides! To be fair though, she usually is just fine once she empties out!:p :p

Rubber gloves? Or throw it in the shower and hose it off first - but to make sure it gets clean do it dirty side out!

And the baking soda should help with the stink - I would wash a second time with detergent too...

Aren't teenage boys just so very entertaining?

Sorry to hear you had to deal with this, what a yucky thing to find waiting at bedtime. I hope your 6 year old is feeling 100% better today.

I take my comforter to the laundromat and use those huge industrial size machines to wash and dry it. It is easier on the comforter to do that, I think.

I 2nd the laundramat suggestion. I would bring everything that needs to be washed (mattress pad, bed ruffle etc) and use one of those huge machines. I would also add a little Lestoil to the water to kill the smell and lots of fabric softner.

Well, the kids and I spent the afternoon at the laudromat! Every kid should experience this! ?Luckily? we got there about 10 minutes after about 20 carnival workers did!! So I ended up waiting AN HOUR for a machine. I had visions of opening up the trash bag I had stuffed the comforter in to clear the building, and then doing my laundry in peace!! :)

After a series of fiascos with the machine (i.e. I noticed about 8 minutes into the cycle that NOTHING had happened--didn't know I had to LATCH the door, AND my detergent didn't drip down in so I had to physically stick my hand into the detergent dispenser and push it) and over 2 hours later, I finally got ONE comforter washed and PARTLY dried. I couldn't stand being in there anymore so took it home and draped it over the deck chairs (and of course, our lawn mower guy comes TODAY to mow and it's got grass bits and bird poo on it, but it's 1000% better than it was!!!!)

My kids were exposed to some very colorful people today. Luckily ONE of the carnival ride operators kept hushing them saying "watch your language, there's kids here!" Oh, and one of the women got her envelope of money stolen and everyone kept looking at ME as if *I* did it (since I wasn't one of them, that automatically made me guilty!) Nevermind the effects of second hand smoke!

Thanks all for your suggestions! I used the big washer ($4!) and used detergent for the wash and then threw in some baking soda for the rinse. Seeing as I had already waited an HOUR to get a machine, I didn't feel like sitting through 2 washes!! But it seems to have worked. It smells fresh. The washer was a bit bigger, but I wouldn't say "industrial size." The fact that it was front loading though (without the agitator) made it easier to load and appeared bigger.

He's only 6, but I'm thinking that next time he's gonna have to do his OWN laundry! (don't call children's services, I was only kiddin') :)

I didn't know how else to describe the machine. It seems larger than my home machine.

I hope you don't have to go through this again :)

Ohiominnie, I know this is not supposed to be a funny thread, and I am sorry about the "puke", but I have to say I am ROTFLOL!! Your carnies in the laundromat experience...ack!! I must be sleep (or food) deprived because I can just envision this scene and I can't stop laughing!
